  1. Nice set I use a sharpened screwdriver to spike my bunnys that looks much more pro than the screwdriver lmao
  2. Telemetry is expensive but worth while having personally I use Luksander MN10 reciever and transmitters downside is just because you have telemetry on the bird dont guarantee you the return of your bird. Make sure you man your hawk properly and dont do stupid things like putting it up at too high a weight or in too windy weather until you know its rock solid even then these factors should be thought about
  3. Try keeping your birds in for a couple of weeks it will see the area as less attractive and hopefully move on to pastures greener. Depending on the breed and who you know you could also try flying a hawk in the area to put in an element of added competition for food and make the wild hawk look else where
  4. I would be more concerned about parasites worms suffer from them and you dont want your hawk eating them but thats what the mole lives on so you would have to reason that the mole is full of parasites also and so proably should not be fed to your birds
  5. Depends on the hawk with regards killing ferrets if the hawk sees the ferret as a hunting companion/team member then the ferret should be safe as houses
  6. Might be easier to come over to England and take one back with you laws there are pretty strict too so make sure you are actually allowed one
  7. Jer = Gyr? If so they must be pretty impressive to see flown especially pure breeds they are so bloody expensive I dont think they get flown all that much
  8. Is that richards bird mate i lost mine same day but got mine back on friday 15 miles away hope rich gets her back from steve yeah thats the one
  9. Well Foxy I agree there are some damaged birds out there but he could take a few simple steps to ensure he isnt being led up the garden path Ask to see the bird in its mews Ask to see the brid flown This way he will know if its a screamer and see how it flys in the field to a degree. Screamers are normally sold on fat weight so that it is quiet and as such can not normally be flown. When they fly the bird you can check its responsiveness to return and if you take a dummy bunny/lure you can get an idea how the bird behaves on a kill not exactly but good enough to know what your
  10. GyrSaker lost on wednesday from South East Northumberland frequency 173 channel 3 fine tune 7 If anyone has the correct telemetry could you stick it out the window and see if you pick a up a signal then let me knwo if you do and I will get the birds owner over there asap to try to recapture it. Thanks in Advance
  11. Its more satisfying to get a young bird and train it yourself but there are plenty of good second hand trained birds out there especially harris hawks that will do exactly what you want nail rabbits day in day out. Unfortunatley alot of people start on harris hawks then move onto other hawks after only a couple of seasons sometime only one season.
  12. Nice pictures mate they all your own birds or just ones you managed to spot flying around? the falcon is stunning but I cant see any equipment so assume its a wild peregrine.
  13. ok first things first where in the north east are you? and what experience do you have with bops if any? feel free to pm me if you like
  14. Had a look at your site nice looking kingfisher took me a while to realise that the it was the copyright sign was thinking all kinds like is that its tail dipping in the water lol
  15. Probably best to be microchipped as rings are eaisly cut off Only problem I have with chipping is I have took many of my birds to the vets and never once have they been scanned to see if they are chipped just like with my dogs only time I have ever seen them scanned was when they were putting one in to check it worked
  16. Have you been checking bird trader there is one on there http://www.birdtrader.co.uk/search/birds-of-prey-for-sale/all/all/page-2 may well be his wouldnt hurt to ring and ask for ring number to check
  17. Number of things you can do mate as your bird is pretty young Use a dummy bunny lure and get the bird used to hitting a lure Otherwise drop the weight a fraction and bolt as many rabbits for it as you can but I would fly it on its own as opposed to in a cast until it learns to kill. Feed it on a dead rabbit so that it associates it with being a source of food. Hope this helps
  18. I got some from hawkmaster they are the mutts nuts easier to get them off him than to fart on making them yourself
  19. Food imprints are absolute b*****ds best thing to do is keep the food packets small so he gets it in one then start to increase teh size of the food you are giving him and keep your hand near while he eats. Be prepared he may well foot you and its gonna hurt
  20. Mine climb curtains and all sorts if they can get a grip they will climb
  21. Best to wait mate you could use a welders glove and shinned beef to try and bring it down but if its an inexperienced handler the bird may not be manned or on flying weight. Your probably going to have to climb the tree if you want to do anything tonight Is the bird dressed for flying or has it got loose with all its gear on mews jess and leash etc?
  22. no, but im glad i didnt have the free one as the female i bought is a beat and big cant wait to get her flyin I am sure you will have good fun with her
  23. Heck im no expert on falcons, I tried to give a fair answer without getting terribly complicated lol You'd have to ask someone much more experienced in falcons than me about hybrid vigour. I guess it must occur in some ways. Theres a heck of a price difference in a Gyr falcon hybrid than a pure Gyr and the potential health issues lessen too. Pere/sakers are ace on landfil in other words theres certain preferred hybrids for various reasons.. horses for courses Hybrid vigor does exist in hybrid falcons yes but its not in all of them also you're spot on with the cost implications too
  24. Your Mentor would not be the breeder your buying your new bird from is it?
