I will post pics later of a so called shivering little mess of a whippet, after rabbit, which he got, his side ripped from under neck right down to hip. He stood there while I sewed it up and didnt make a sound.Hard mate the hardest gamest little dog youre ever likely to meet.got deehound bull as well hard as iron its the way you bring em up.

WANK??? obviously hasnt ever had a decent whippet.

whippets great little dogs, as for rabbits, if they are there ours will have them, in bush, brambles, any rough ground you like, game little devils.around here in Kent though theres starting to be a great shortage as the farmers roundabout are fencing off as much as they can, with barbed wire on top which by the way should have been banned years ago, the whippets had many great sized paper cuts, blame the yanks for that stuff, could go on but wont, hate it.the rabbits have totally no way out as they fix any holes immediately, rabbits in the end starve to death, dont they know its the pigeons t

You are right about scar tissue, and you are very lucky it didnt bleed much. When our whippet nicked his ear it bled and bled. had to put a compress on it, when i took it off he shook his head and you'd think someone had sprayed the walls with a red aerasol, took about four hours to stem the blood.

Thanks for that mate. I listened to all the words and it does put it over in a really good way and makes you think about it in a different way, from the kids perspective.Moving song.
-
Yep absolutely fine mate, been feeding same for years.
-
Wouldnt try it round here, my feet would be cut to ribbons with the flints all round us like razors. Try to keep the dogs out of the worst but sometimes cant stop them. They have had some nasty deep cuts to their pads, just the way of life for running dogs here. They get well looked after though.

At 7 months give him a chance hes not even full grown yet, with that cross the smallest you can expect is 25 but he should make more when he spurts in growth at about 10 months.
-
Boil it? why the hell would you boil it?, If its the 20% fat one you'll end up with sludge, Best to give it to pup raw,he'll benefit most from it.good luck

This aint a new problem mate, I can remember in Scotland, Scone 30 years ago when I was a kid , was taking this dog out for someone for exercise and he jumped in the pond in the park, came out with his foot gashed on bottle glass. Its a awful problem, same as the woods round us here people dont think of the dogs with their exposed feet.

LONGDOGRUNNER GOOD NIGHT ENDS IN TRADGEDY
squirreltail replied to woodga's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Oh mate sorry about the dog, brings it all back, knocks you for six dont it. Dog wouldnt have known much about it thank fully real sorry. -
Right youve got your work cut out with that cross, beautiful cross but very laid back.Start off with basics at home and in your home. If your dogs got a good appetite so much the better.Get something, like a stuffed old sock that it can grab hold of, get your dog in either the kennel or your home where it cant escape away with the old sock. Let it smell your hand with a tiny smelly bit of grub in it, give it that peice but no more. Have another titbit in your hand and let dog smell it but dont let it have it.Get the sock and wiggle it under its nose, try to get dog agitated enough to get hold

Well done mate, was it a fluke or have you done as well before?
-
Plenty of them here in Kent. A lot have mixi in certain areas, others are ok. Lots down the garden too ,have to fence off the greens.Dogs banned from down the garden because of the hens,7ft fence. Hope you get lucky there.
-
Brilliant mate,Its one thing I miss about Ireland.Cheers.Hilarious.
-
Yep crane fly.Its what the starlings are after on your lawn.when they dig their beaks in it.
-
Good on you. Dont forget the wire netting run. Unless theyre gonna be completely free range in that case keep your wits about you for the foxes, theyll have a go anytime around us. Dont forget to shut the door at night either ,one time you forget is the time foxy is about. Ive had hens for years{not the same ones mind] and the taste of grass fed free range organic hens eggs are out of this world.Remember the first egg my hens laid as you will, everyone wanted it. Good luck to you and your wife, you wont regret it.

Anyone used the rat smoker
squirreltail replied to heart of wales's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I tried it but the flavour wasnt as good as I thought it should be. -
Yep came across one like that late last year, dont know if it had been born like it or lost it somehow but it was healed perfectly.
-
Get a rabbit skin, fill it up with some thing like an old hard glove, tie it around firmly so its quite solid, then tie a 20ft piece of rope to that. Take dog into own territory like garden or somewhere it knows, keep teasing the dog with the skin to get it to lunge at it, get it a bit agitated then keep hold of the rope end and let the skin go away the legth of the rope.the dog will lunge at the skin, wriggle it and when the dog grabs it pull on the rope hard so the skin moves.keep doing it say 5 times at first .and the dog will soon get the hang of it. If everyone did it from 6 weeks old dog

a letter from wankers
squirreltail replied to chris hickling's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Ignore the F.....s keep your business to yourself. Someone has obviously got a grudge against you for some reason, probably nothing to do with what they say.Theres some arrogant b*****ds out there I speak from experience. -
If your mate thinks anything of his dogs he'll either bone the cooked carcase or feed it raw.Not boning cooked rabbit can be lethal to an animal, get away with it some of the time but could be painful and expensive if one of them bones get stuck somewhere or cuts up dogs insides.
