Wrong, the only terrier purposely bred as an all rounder was the plummer, look at the breeds in its make up, as for your retrieving question well all dogs can be taught to retrieve, starts with any soft toy in the garden as a pup and developed from there, I bought a good friend of mine a patterdale off a hard well known digging dog in Liverpool, my mate used to be the secretary of a working gun dog club and although a bit hard mouthed loved a day shooting/retrieving, a bit of brain and patience on both sides will do it, a good Plummer works anything you care to teach it,very intelligent and thr

Prawns in the curtain rail... feckin honk in the warm weather :-))

I'd be six feet four with blonde hair and blue eyes and a top of the range panzer to take the dogs out in B-)

Had two jills in one hutch raise 27 between them but haven't a clue how many in each litter... feeding them was a nightmare...used to travel across great Altcar early every morning to get to work... anything dead on the road was straight in the back of the van... hares pheasants rabbits woodpigeons the lot got brought home... hutch was 12 foot long.. if ferret shit was valuable I'd have been a millionaire :-))

I worked there a couple of years ago putting up new cast iron gutters... what a flashback seeing the places on the boundary walls we used to climb over as kids with the terriers and mongrel lurchers...and you're right bosun the kennels housed a small pack of hounds, coursing greyhounds and in later years gundogs.... it's one of those places I'd love to visit in a time machine :-)

Fed dogfish myself in the past to litters of 6/7 week old kits... brings them on great... only downsides the smell in the dung corner... it'd knock flies off a bucket of shite so always feed at night... clean out first thing in morning and again early evening

Try a rough surfaced roof tile on the floor of the hutch just outside the nest box entrance....keeps the claws in trim but doesn't harm their pads...

Think it depends on how the whippet's bred (racing or working lines)found the racing types to be smaller and less able to handle rough ground whereas the working types tend to be a little bit taller and heavier with better feet...take mine the beach regular for a run in the salt water...does their feet the world of good ATB

Combination of all sorts, modern farming techniques, buzzards, badgers, fox, mink, lamping ,shooting ,since the ban came into force the hare's viewed more as a pest than as a sporting asset to be protected as any land known to hold a healthy population inevitably ends up being plagued with illegal coursers, lampers etc. thus the landowners say "shoot the lot...they're more trouble than they're worth"....sad but true, and it won't change until there's a repeal of the hunting act ....until then poor old puss is really up against it

That's what happened at altcar when the ban was brought in (to stop illegal coursing lamping etc) used to see loads there when they were keepered hardly see any now The landowners on our patch wouldn't notice a couple of sets of bootprints and a couple of sets of pawprints left discreetly about the place. But no some f*****g dickheads have to wreck the place, show no respect or bit of courtesy and f**k things up for everyone. :wallbash:  scaffolding board with 4"nails through it on the field side of the gateway covered with leaves...very hard to see at night in a j
