  1. Just changed the batteries in my mk3 collars and receiver and 2 out of them out of the 4 aren't working. They don't even bleep when I try to switch them on. I aren't sure if they were working before I changed the batteries because I haven't used them for a couple of months. Has anyone any ideas, they are less than 12 months old so should still be covered under the warranty, but can't find the receipt. They seem to be a sealed unit so I presume they can't be repaired. Any help or ideas to try and get them working would be appreciated!!
  2. My ferret collars need replacing due to them going brittle. I know I can get the deben replacement ones, but thought it might be a good idea to get a collar with a plastic type clip like on a nylon dog collar. As long as it's 10mm wide the locator bit will fit ok, and thought it would be easier to get on and off. Also you can get them in bright colours which would make it easier to spot the ferrets in thick cover. Has anyone else tried these type collars and have you come across any problems I haven't thought of ?
  3. I thought that was the case and with the Gale force winds we have had will of helped as well. I wasn't sure if there may of been any tablets left in the hole or are these tablets used to form a chemical reaction to make gas, a bit like a smoke bomb? Sorry if I sound a bit thick, but wanted to make sure before ferreting it.
  4. I have a pest control job to do in the next week or so in 2 acre garden. This job was passed on to me by a pest controller that has a contract with this client to control rats and other pests but doesn't really have the time to do the rabbits. He did however try to knock a hole in the numbers 2 weeks ago on 2 burrows using some sort of gas tablets and filled in the holes. I don't know exactly what chemicals/gasses were used as I am not familiar with these methods but apparently the rabbits are working these sets again. My question is is there different types of gas tablets and will it be s
  5. Not sure what mod, possibly air arms Scope is a smk4x16x50 illuminated cross hair, very clear and accurate, better optics than my hawke nite eye. It's a darkish stock, not sure what wood. It is a air arms classic s410 fac, standard length I presume. Ben Taylor charges £285 just to fit the the regulator so this is a bargain at £400. Please pm me with email address if you would like photo's sending. Thanks
  6. I have decided to sell my fac air rifle. It is a air arms 410 fac with moderator in .22 flavour. This has been regulated by Ben Taylor(btas) a couple of years ago and has recently been back to him for a full service. It gives about 40 full powered shots at 28lbs using aa field and a touch over 30lbs using bisly magnums. It is set up to give the best performance possible and is deadly accurate. I am reluctant go let it go but it doesn't get used much and need the room in the cabinet. You must have a slot on your ticket. Comes with a 4x16x50 scope £400 for gun, mod and scope, will not
  7. If this is the newer type one, I will take it. pm sent
  8. Because you killed three after the photo was taken. I thought I would ask before someone else did !!!!
  9. you ain't got a side by side Whoops, signature changed !! Ferrets are knackered, just been out to feed em and they didn't even come out to say hello.
  10. How come there's only 25 in the photo???
  11. Hold the back legs with one hand and pull it's neck with the other hand by putting the head between 2 fingers, try putting your fingers just infront of it's ears instead of behind the ears and one quick pull should do it.
  12. I use a mora clipper and find it good enough for everything I need it for.
  13. I have also been looking for some 15mm, 30 tube in extra high. I have found some blocks on the 'bay' that change it from a 15 to a standard 11mm and then fit medium mounts on top. You might be able to get the high mounts to go straight on but if not you Could do what I have suggested.
  14. I would strongly disagree with the bad comments from my experience with smk scopes. I had the 4x16x50 on my .22 rimmy and thought it was great, the only reason I swapped it for the mamba was to fit a add on night vision to it. I still have one on my fac air rifle and has held it's zero perfectly, the clarity and picture in my opinion is better than my hawke night eye which I have on my centrefire. Look in the scope reviews and I compared both of them in a review earlier this year. Although I did have to send the first one back as I couldn't adjust the cross hair high enough to zero it, the ove
  15. I think we have got it how I want it now, apart from adding a few things inside the outside court. I think the ferrets are happy with the new outside run its 7 and a half foot by about 3 and a half foot. The outside run is joined with one 4 inch pipe to the hutches inside the shed which consists of three 5 foot double hutches joined together with pipes, 3 litter trays to make life easier to clean out, 3 dark sleeping areas and 5 seperate drinking bottles. I am going to make some sort of shallow bath for them to cool off in and drink out of in the new run and poosibly put in a hammock. At t
  16. I have decided to add another ferret to my team and was wondering if anyone new of Any ferrets from a GOOD working background available in the north east(Middlesbrough area). I am wanting a hob that is bred from smallish lines so it will go through the nets easily like an average Jill would. I plan to get him snipped through the winter ready to service my jills next year, but will only be getting him done if he starts to prove himself by the back end of next year if it's one of this years kits. Ideally I would like a one of last years kits that is already working but realise that's probably
  17. I have 3 litter trays in my set up, they are cheap ones from the £1 shop about 3 inches high and use pets at home lightweight cat litter, it's like small White stone chippings about £6 a big sack. Makes life easier when cleaning out.
  18. If you go fishing it might be a good idea to take a landing net with you to catch the little ones in as they run through the nets. We had 30 half to fully grown a couple of weeks ago and there was loads of small ones hole hopping. It was good to get out though and the ferrets enjoyed it. Hope all goes well.
  19. I might have to start taking a metal detector with me ferreting in future to scan the ground for knives before putting the ferrets down.
  20. Fibreglass for me, tried thinking of other cheaper options but you can't beat fibreglass but they will cost you if you want a few. I have two 25 yard nets set up with wooden poles and they are really difficult to get into hard ground, we actually snapped one yesterday so we are going to swap them over to fibreglass. Our other nets are all fibreglass poles and are alot easier to put in.
  21. Possibly, but didnt see any rats bolt and the warren had a couple of freshly dug holes, dug by rabbits. The river is only about 10 feet wide in the middle of the Yorkshire dales. The lady said there used to be mink around there but hasn't seen any for about 10 years.
  22. We went out with the ferrets yesterday. We were having a good day doing a small holding for a lady that is over run with rabbits, until we did the last warren. It was only about 15 holes but was spread out at the point of a river bank so was quite large. We were working it for a good half an hour with 3 ferrets and no rabbits were showing, no rumbling or nothing. When the last ferret popped out I noticed it was covered in blood around it's neck, i presumed she had a kill down the hole, but when I looked closely she had a cut on her neck. The rabbits were being stubbon all day due to the ti
  23. Traps and air rifle as already suggested, you could also try changing your brand of poison, rats can build up an ammunity to poison so by changing the brand/type every couple of months you can help stop them building up an ammunity to it. We used to change the brand of poison on the farm regular to keep on top of them when we had a problem a few years ago.
  24. I had a nikko sterling gameking scope on my air rifle and thought it was crap, it may of just been that scope as I got it with the gun second hand. If you are looking at a good budget priced scope then I can recomend the SMK scopes. I have one on my .22 rimmy and my FAC air rifle and think they are graet, mine is the 4-16x50 illuminated. The clarity is as good as if not better than my hawke scope costing twice as much and its as good in low light as the hawke. Depending on the zoom and wether you need it illuminated or not you can get one for £30 upto £70. If you look in the scope reveiw s
