  1. Put some rabbit drop boxes down with a rabbit in until they they release them, then fill it with starving rats, they will soon get a shock next time they reach in to release another rabbit.
  2. My mam caught a blackbird in a live rat trap last week baited with bread and chocolate.
  3. Our butcher takes mixie rabbits as long as they arent too skinny. They look the same with the skins and head off as long as they aren't to the point where they have no meat on them.
  4. I am looking for some mk6 fenn traps, if you have any kicking around you don't use or want to sell any please send me a pm.
  5. I have a roedale delta mod, expensive, but very light and can be stripped. You can also add sections and take them away if you want for different size calibre's.
  6. They are only brass snares on a fence, I don't think one of these would hold a billy for long, I have known them drag a fox snare attached to a tree trunk for 100 yards, the tree trunk was that heavy it was difficult for a grown man to drag it back. The problem isn't the billy getting caught in the snares, it's it eating what's in it and the damage it's causing, that's presuming it's not a fox. It wouldn't be possible to use a drop box, the fence is too open.
  7. First of all the fence is getting damaged where the snares are getting pulled off. Secondly, it's not ideal when snares are disappearing or getting damaged. And thirdly, the butcher isn't very happy.
  8. That's what I meant, if I gather the snares in for a week or 2 and then put them back down do you think the problem will disappear or will I have to get rid of the "fox" The main problem is I need to keep on top of the rabbits in this particular area, it's took us nearly 12 months and we have finnaly more a less wiped them out but over the last couple of weeks we have started to get a few moving back in again, I don't want them getting settled back in and breeding again.
  9. I have been and checked my rabbit snares today to find 2 have been pulled off a wire fence, one peg snare has had the wire bit through half way down the wire and another snare has gone missing with a chunk of the fence snapped off. That's 4 snares in total. At first I thought it was Charlie but after thinking about it I think it's more likely to be a billy, the fact that something has pulled the fence down. I am going to bait it up and do the clock and battery trick to see if it's happening at the same time each night. If it is a billy do they tend to always come back at the same time ea
  10. Thanks Rolfe that picture is very helpful.
  11. Thanks Rolfe, the wire I have is very simular by the sounds of it, the problem I am having is getting the snare to stay in place. Using the freezer ties might be the solution, where exactly do you support the snare, are you saying support the bottom of the loop with freezer ties or use the freezer ties as a sort of tealer at each side. Sorry if I sound thick but on most of the pictures I have seen there doesnt seem to be any supports and the snare is just bent into position, this is ok in theory but using the steel wire it just doesn't work. Do you also put an eyelet on the end or just loop
  12. I also forgot to add I plan to put a swivel on each snare as well so when it dangles from the pole the snare won't twist as much.
  13. I have got some 40lbs breaking strain pike fishing 7 strand nylon coated wire and have found it isn't stiff enough to sit at the correct height without a peg support each side of the loop. Have you a link for the wire you are talking about and is it stiff enough to support itself. Thanks
  14. I have read a few articles about snaring squirrels on a pole going from one tree to another. I really like the idea but are not sure what to make the snares out of. I have played with different high breaking strain wire trace used for fishing and have found it isn't stiff enough to stop in place. I have also read using 4 strands of brass wire works ok but looks to be quite thick. Can anyone post any links to a wire that will be ok to use that can be used as a single strand and be stiff enough to stop in place, or would I be better off using 4 strands of brass wire? Also do I need to use a
  15. Sorry to hijack the thread but may I ask the measurements of the ladder spacing on your ladder trap, what are the measurements of the gaps?
  16. It cost me £26 for 6 jabs last year

  18. My mam has 3 labs and I have never seen labs catch rabbits like hers do. They work as a team putting them out of the cover to catch them. They catch 2 or 3 rabbits a day on a weekly basis with 9 big healthy rabbits being the most in a two hour walk. I was on the phone to my mam just the other week when my mam heard a funny noise like a baby crying, when I phoned her back to find out what it was it turned to be a hare they had caught.
  19. I have only been using snares since christmas and as i have already said I could see the footprints in the snow that proved they were avoiding them. Also my little experience has also showed rabbits entering the fence in a new run only a couple of feet away from the snare and stopped using the exististing run where the snare is, unless this was pure coincidence.
  20. The first lot I put down at Christmas were shiny and still caught, it wasn't until it snowed and could see footprints running upto the snares and turning away I realised how crafty some of these rabbits are. On this particular bit of land under the circumstances it is more of a personal mission to get rid of every rabbit possible and I have about 40 shiny ones not being used at the moment, I just thought if I can dull them down a bit while they aren't being used it might improve my chances a bit when I do end up using them. I have only just got into snaring since Christmas and found it a goo
  21. I have been in contact with woodga today, so hopefully might get something sorted this week. Thanks
  22. We have hopefully just about got the last few rabbits left on the ground I have being using them on, but when it snowed a few weeks ago we could see the footprints going upto the snares on the fence and stopping at the snare and going back down the run and going through another gap in the fence, and this was with weathered snares. It just goes to show some rabbits have wised up to them. We have now had 49 rabbits off the border of the cematry since boxing day and the last 2 weeks is the first time the flowers on my grans grave have not been eaten within the first 48 hours, they haven't been t
  23. Probably on the trails going through the hedges where the snares can be fixed to something solid like a tree fence.
  24. Has anyone any other suggestions as to where to get any from as I have had no response yet from woodga.
