  1. Why's that, did they not bring enough ammo for all the crusties?
  2. I once done a Winters night from something like 6.30pm to 7.30am (or 7.30pm to 6.30am I forget), covered many, many miles looking for a fox, never did see one... That cured me of all nighters
  3. Anyone every try this aquaponics craic? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aquaponics It's a subject I seem to be stumbling over every now and then. Feed the fish, pump their water through a bed growing veg/whatever which cleans and reoxygenates the water, return water to fish. Both the fish and food crop grow. Now I have to admit I'm not overly enthusiastic about eating food grown with fish waste, I think that's from remembering the smell of the goldfish tank I used to have many years ago I'm also not much of a fish eater, but is there a market for other types of fish, say for pets
  4. Kerrygold butter for the win I only ever really grow earlies, usually in polypots, but would love to have the room to grow some of the later varieties in the soil. Yeah, space is an issue for some, I'm lucky enough to have that other problem, too much space! They were well worth the work John, I am well pleased!
  5. For heating it's hard to beat a stove, for atmosphere you can't beat an open fire. Love the smell of wood smoke, we used to cut turf but our bog ran out a long time ago. After many years of cursing it I miss it now.
  6. I think that's what makes them spicy, but don't quote me, using a recipe I got off the Bord Bia site. That's my third time making them now, first time I peeled them, last two times I didn't. Starting to think the early spuds I grew were a waste of space when I see how much maincrop I get. Everyone is complaining of blight this year but I sprayed like a demon Don't see the point in going to all that work to see them rot in the end.
  7. Cut up yer spuds into wedges, put into a bowl, drizzle olive oil over them, add ground paprika (lots), fresh ground black pepper (lots), sea salt and mix up well to coat them. I covered an oven shelf with tin foil, put them on, stuck it in the middle at gas mark 6 for 45+ minutes. They will need longer if they're big, keep an eye on them. Add a couple of branches of rosemary on top of them if you have it. Really happy with the yield I am getting from Desiree.
  8. Desiree spuds, planted I think first week of May. Opinel no. 7 for scale. Wedges I made from Desiree I dug up yesterday, not the ones above, same variety though. Think an extra ten minutes in the oven wouldn't have hurt, they were tasty though!
  9. Should start a FB page Stop Anti Cruelty Campaign and put up stories about them diggin up peoples grandparents, releasing mink etc. Title might need a bit of work reading it back to myself...
  10. First time I've ever had a reaction to one was just last week. Got bit and had a lump for about a week, just noticed it's pretty much buggered off. Not as big as the one in the photo though. At least they're slow and easy to kill.
  11. Umpteen threads about over paid spoilt children and the grown men that follow them ( ) to look forward to then
  12. I've found they mostly like to stick to their times, I've always given them about an hour either side of their time once I've it figured out, just to be careful. They're out to mark and investigate their territory and find food so there are things that can delay them or cause them to go a slighly different route. Once you know roughly where and when they're coming from and where they want to get to you've got the upperhand in the battle. Find a nice spot between them and their destination, have the wind and the moon right and you're on to a winner. I've had four cameras and they can be goo
  13. Lucky enough to pretty much be able leave them where the fall around here. Otherwise it's a haul to whomevers door. Hung one on my mates gate this year, caused a bit of a stir when some primary school kids saw it as they pulled up in the bus to collect one of his I spose the pool of blood and large open wound didn't help.
  14. A quarter past three I was told.

  18. Steamed with some mint, then eat with lots of Kerrygold butter
  19. You're nearly there. One question, what brand butter?
  20. It's definately not fcuking done Needs a few months in the bottle methinks. Starting to carbonate though which is good.
