You might be right mate, maybe they should stop spending money on scientific advancement and chuck it all at Africa eh..? no, carry on with useful scientific advancements, mars etc is only being explored to satisfy our curiousity imo. That curiosity is what sets us apart from the rest of the animals here on earth mate, its what drives us on. If we don't act upon it we may as well all start living like some of the rural Pakistanis and Afghans who would like nothing better than to see us all live our lives like we're 1400 years in the past.. i completly agree with the curiousity part ad

A-n-y-w-a-y I wonder when the first colour pics will be coming back from Curiosity?

Well I've discovered the reason why two Scotsmen sang about walking 500 miles anyway, they'd not heard of the motor car

Just tell me whats in space that we need to find so bad that we can afford to spend money that i dont really think we have? We all know really there looking for "Wee Green Men"..... I've told you, those "unknown unknowns". When the Americas were discovered no one even knew they were there! Now, if we took your view point and had it back then, we still wouldn't know. Of course you can always Google: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_some_everyday_things_that_NASA_has_invented http://www.level10realtyblog.com/blog/2011/03/29/inventions-that-are-rooted-in-the-space-program/

That's it so, we stop here, grind to a shuddering halt and quickly become outdated through lack of knowledge into the future. We don't invent faster or more fuel effiecent anything, no new ways of doing anything, no new materials or processes. The next step is to regress and bring back the burning torches and pitch forks You heretics won't take me alive (Where's the beame me up Scotty smiley?)

I thought you were against needless wasting of money Hows that John.......Providing jobs for thousands and thousands of people in the building industry? That's how, it's a false economy. If the demand is there so would the jobs be there. We know more about builders over here than we'd like to. Plenty stuff needing built...........no one has the money to build it. Obviously uneconomic stuff, if this stuff paid it's own way there'd be a que lining up to build this stuff. So we dont need better housing, better schools and better hospitals John? But sure what do

I get that i really do. But when the world is on its knees financially and the money could go to other things then theres a problem for me. If we had an unlimited supply of money then yes of course search away till there hearts content. I'm sure it provides thousands of jobs as well....... Tell me when hasn't the world been on it's knees? 60's? 70's? 's? 90's? 00's? The absoulte worst thing to do in a recession is cut spending on science & education, where does new ideas and new industry come from then?

It's the unknown unknowns that are exciting.

I bet one of your ancestors said the very same thing when America or Australia was discovered. Exploration is one of the pinnacles of human achievement. Look at all we had to discover to get to this point through all the different technologies, from basic maths to discovering materials and new ways of using them etc. Slightly different as we already had life on Earth when that happened so not so much of a unrealsitic view that somewhere there would be other people. These planets have been watched for years....dont they have mega telescopes seeing right onto them and have seen nothing.

I've made a couple of boo boo's, both unintentional The first was waiting for my priming solution to cool, I got impatient and placed the saucepan into a sink of cold water to cool faster. All fine, except for the construction of the saucepan which seems to have a little pan underneath. That little pan held some tap water which went into my bottling bucket with the priming solution. I carried on, probably the wrong thing to do but I had no splenda left to make more priming solution. The second mistake was I didn't buy enough bottles. I have some empty Heineken and Carlsberg bottl -
Don't buy Muckboots. 1) They rip easily. 2) They will, I repeat WILL, split. 3) They are quite heavy. 4) They're too hot for Summer (during the years we actually get a Summer). I've had two or three pairs so I'm not talking through my arse about them. I'm now wearing Dunlop Puroforts, the ones with the red fishy sole. They're a lot more hard wearing. Winter & Spring I have them on practically 24/7 farming and shooting. One boot did split where the sole meets the upper, but was fixed with Aquasure or whatever it's called. Have this pair two or three years now, wouldn't go bac

This had to be the funniest part of it: "Oh, and did I mention the snorkel?" People are strange.

They played a scene (on radio) here the last day, the one with Rodney and Trig, and the deep discussion over Rodneys name... Dave...

I doubt there'll be much interest in this here, maybe some from the Irish lads, but I thought I'd share what I think is the best series on TV at the moment. It's not only Irish made but as gaeilge as well. Anyone interested who hasn't seen it, it's worth giving a chance, funny as f**k. Little bit of background: http://www.tg4.ie/en...012/010212.html Episode 3 season 2 teaser (sorry no subbies) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpUl6Cr5peU
