Caught plenty of (hooded) crows in top entry traps. But, yesterday I happened to see one investigate one of my traps. He did everything and I do mean EVERYTHING save go in the damn thing. If he could have lifted it up and looked under it he would have. 15 minutes of fun viewing, but no result! I strongly suspect a side entry would have had him.

Whilst loitering on another site I came across a few threads on rabbit and fox shooting using small torches, the guys seemed to be having pretty good success on their hunts. After a bit of a questions & answers session I decided I'd take a punt on the torch mentioned in the title. The goal was to be able to go out at night with my shotgun or rimfire without having to bring along an 18-22amp battery, backpack, LF170 and the lead to the battery. Postman arrived with the torch. I can't answer your question, but, I've found using an Amber coloured filter doesn't cut the light down near as much as the others.

Shotguns are made for windy dark nights. Callers don't always work, fox may have just eaten, or isn't interested in the sound, or you hit a wrong note and he doesn't like the sound of it. Find their paths, where you know they like traveling. Wait on a good vantage point OFF the horizon and AWAY from village/town lights. The idea is to get your fox coming towards you. Where the dark windy night comes into play is you can then very quietly try to get closer. The wind should ideally be coming from the fox towards you, NEVER from you to the fox. The wind hides some but not all noise, I've ran -

Mine is 3 or 4 years old now harry. Only problem I had with it was a bubble in the metal in the action lock. Replaced FOC and ASAP. For what I paid for it and how it's worked for me I have no complaints at all.
