  1. i have sewn in the bagging on my one 25yd net(100%) and have left the other as is.pratice set up went well so i'm off out sunday with the team. good luck with yours. p.s. 12.5 yard net 4 poles
  2. any chance of a pic of the airdales? i have always liked the breed. the pic further up in the thread do not look typical airdale types to me,maybe i'm misled? atb for the season.
  3. sound advice above. i started my parson straight away( after a week in the house)with my young jill, they got on like a house on fire. i let the mother out and she nipped him right on the hooter,he yelped she let go and that was that. every day they play together all three. now the pup is just over four months old and has been ferreting 3 times, he now follows the ferrets down the hedges( ferrets underground, him topside)so i know where they are,and has started marking where the rabbits are moving/about to bolt.in short an asset already when the ferrets surface he shows me where and has had
  4. all this dogging going on,are you lads sure you are in this for the rabbits not been so lucky yet. we were out for some bunnys on a pitch black and windy night,i shot and missed a rabbit at around 30 yards with the .22 lr. three of us went to have a look if we could see it.when one of the lads put the lamp into the corn around 20ft away( about 8 inch high) all hell broke loose, two young badgers came flying at us like a pair of staffys, all teeth and attitude.they meant buisness the thought of three blokes jumping around amongst shouts of "f---- me","shoot it", "what the fu--" etc etc.
  5. a belter of a dog by the looks of him.will this count as a natural trail on his paperwork?( witnesses etc?) get him as much natural work as possible bud,if the talent and hardness is there he will make a good follow up dog. even if the dog had been with you,you did the right thing waiting for her to get sick/adrenalin drop before starting the trail.a hot trail can ruin the dog( working with his nose "up") and the bear will move on further or fight. great write up and brilliant pics p.s. i hope that doesn't sound as though i have experiance of bear hunting as i don't.just pigs and the
  6. looks like badger to me,they will push turf with the snout hence the lack of claw marks. good going with charlie
  7. i have now waited six weeks, from the visit of the fao.rang him on wed and he called me back saying it is all sorted and will be sent out this week, only today left. i'll just wait untill next wed and then call him again i think( to make sure its not been lost or put through someone elses door, this happens at least twice a week here,i get others peoples mail!) my fao said they are not busyso he cant understand why it would take so long. patience is a virtue as my mom used to say
  8. are you after a side mount or do you have it drilled/tapped ( side mount as with the m98). the m96 that i have seen had sem mounts if i'm not mistaken ( suehlereinhakmontage) this is a hooked mount and easily removable/scope change. if you want original mounts then i can have a look on a german site for you. cheers
  9. i take it the taping of locators is not done over here then if you think about it its not a bad idea, you break through at the right end of the dog,dog cant get caught up on roots etc and the locator cant get lost through striping it off. i'm sure i saw a video on here of a dog working a badger with a taped tail too so it cant be that goony can it?
  10. flynn i have never thought that my mrs not speaking to me all day could be a kind of deeper understanding between us, i tend to think she "has one on her" i shall see it in a different light now, when i stay out too long, get drunk, don't do the washing up etc i could be deepening our relationship,i will sit down and have a talk with her after good to see the girls getting involved, mine used to come mooching for bunnys but its too cold now. since the ferret bit her on the nose(and meant it!!!!) she wont touch them either. atb
  11. locators are sold on here( buy sell swap). a way around the collar is to tape it to the tail. good luck
  12. i know people who use meopta and don't look at anything else. top optics. i believe the prisms are made by one of the top names. atb
  13. i always rub them down, then they seem to be attracted to the fire for a couple of hours and seen to know when i'm thinking of feeding them i know a guy who keeps his gsp outside and he has a pig lamp(infra red) whivh he leaves on for an hour.if kenneld together then i don't think its necessary if lots of dry straw/bedding is there. how is the pup coming on?
  14. you could try e-gun.de a german version of e-bay for hunters( montage ringe fuer m96 mauser) i take it you have the base plates? which make are they?
  15. colster is right on this one,the passing of land is a free service.if you have a couple of jobs per week and call him to pass them he will soon reccomend you get an open ticket. mostly the land should be passed anyway so he just has to check on a computer,if not he has to visit and pass/fail as suitable. get the ticket get the guns mate and sort out the retrictions after a couple of months when he has seen that you NEED an open ticket(due to his lack of time ). explain the need and that you will have however many customers per week etc and see what happens. my guess is that he will last
  16. i would reccomend the cz 452( as above with moderator) you can get a good set up for that money( gun trader etc) i chose the style(stainless, synthetic stock) with a sak mod and simmons white tail scope 3.5-10 x50 ( £300 pounds working set up). there are other rifles out there but the cz it seems is the value for money/robust/reliable weapon of the bunny basher
  17. if one eye is dominant it may cause problems.the advantage is being able to see both the target and possible danger( especially on high magnification) you can see target reaction/direction of flight/possible wounding etc. if you can shoot and hit no problem.
  18. sorry teapot i think that was in reply to my bit of hijacking thanks fat ferret and heritage i have just got myself some electric fence poles 36 inch and wil try to set up this afternoon,on a dry debri free field. should be ferreting at the weekend so i'll give them a go for real then. we went on sunday but the cover was still a bit rough and four or five made it away across the field( on the opposite side of the fence to the dog of course!)to a small warren in between badger sets( thought of backnetting them next time).managed to get seven in a couple of hours with the young ferrets. l
  19. a mate reloads them in hermany and use a vulcan.not sure what load and powder, not much help
  20. i would always make them myself. whether wood or steel its not too hard with a bit of time and a few tools you can make a seat to fit the land you want it for( question of height/stop for the bullet, double seat, roofed over etc). wood is easy to build, steel is easy to maintain( wood needs to be checked every year and each time you use it for rot and the sawing of antis) again to height: the big advantage of sitting higher is you have a stop( we had high seats at 8 meters on one sloping field). if the land is good anyway you can be better off with a simple blind/hide. if cover is high you can
  21. a good sea swivel will hold about 100lb( should be enough). a screw type peg would hold even better, i have seen them in plastic for tents( maybe too expensive?) good luck.
  22. went last week 50 bird driven for £50. ( 10 guns) every bird after the alloted was £10 more. got some stew and drinks after. hope this helps. cheers.
  23. why did she fail the cabinet? is it of brit standard and fixed securely?( this being the point, not whether brick etc).
  24. i also have two 25yd nets and was going to ask the same question how much bag is advisable for use as a stop/hedge breaking net? would 75% do the trick? cheers
  25. try the share a hunt forum. the best of luck and a load of bunnies
