  1. wel someone will be in for a bollocking at a guess glad you got it sorted
  2. he is happy retrieving shot rabbit/pigeon etc at the moment. hopefully not too many with mixy to start him off catching in summer. maybe the odd shot fox to be picked up when he has a bit more to him.some water retrieve when warmer. generally get him out and seeing stuff and enjoying him as a pup
  3. "bauern doublette" waidmann
  4. a lovely dog bud, she won't be around for long
  5. i would take him to the vets as it could be mange, mites, flea allergy etc etc then decide what to treat him with bud. atb
  6. here is a link to photo bucket(excuse the pics that are not of the dogs please) http://s934.photobucket.com/albums/ad187/waidmann/ now just over 5 months the long one. doing fine
  7. the old style lurcher as said in previous posts were bred to look "ordinary" dogs and would hunt with cunning and guile rather than pace. the poacher/tennant farmers would be kicked off the land just for owning hunting dog, thats a long way back though my uncle had a dog(lurcher) untill a few years ago which did not look much but could catch on the lamp no problem(she looked too stocky to be quick). i've no idea how she was bred, probably just worker to worker(lurcher to lurcher) over years and years, a proper mongrel
  8. good strong looking muzzle there bud, looks a belter
  9. good stuff, did you mean "lives to serve another day"?. i would get a dummy bud, next time the hen might not be so lucky! i had a fox terrier which was doing really well with his training. i went for a walk and he dived into the hedge, through it and into a field with some duck on(white ones ). he brought me one proud as punch, the young lad wanted to take the live duck off him and yanked it,breaking its neck i thought "never mind" and went to the guys house(honesty being the best policy) and told him what had gone on and offered to pay for the duck." ok bud, they are £25 each" i g
  10. a shame it wont go through the letter box really i'm sure the contents of his bladder would though
  11. i have always made my own to suit the land and cover(height, roofed, netted, single seat/double,with doggy board). the saving is immense and you get what you NEED without compromise. the aluminium seats i hve used have been wobbly and the shooting rest not stable. they have had a place when placing new seats(trial in a spot before making the permanent one) and for placing on maize(pigs moving in/out). the saftey aspect should no be overlooked and they must be checked at least at the start of the season every year. a good alterative is to weld them from steel(ladder and seat bracket).thi
  12. domestic pigs/ferral pigs can be pretty wild after a short time, but i would not compare them with "wild born" (sus scrofa). as with most animals the wild ones are tougher in body and mind in my limited experiance of them. neither to belittle. this "monster" was a product of a farm if i recall rightly. the fat swelling over is not typical of a wild living pig(they do get alot of the white stuff on them but i have never seen a "wild pig" that "out of shape") i'm not going to question the ethical points of the lad chasing it through the bush shooting at it with a handgun(how many shots?)
  13. let us know what they have to say bud,the very best of luck any damage/rifle not shooting straight afterwards make sure you claim for it(get the gunsmith to zero it for you and give you a bill,a high one).they will all have had a look and play with it(they are to some extent interested in firearms or would not be in the armed response,i know i would).
  14. i'm no authority on lakies but most "regionaly bred terrier" are a mix out of all manner of things(english brown terriers etc etc). i'm sure someone will know the rough make up though. the question is when did they start calling them lakeland, fell etc?
  15. they might catch the odd one but the idea of bushing is to push the quarry to gun/lurcher. get her out(preferably with bushing terriers) and let her learn by herself. the shooting of rabbit is always a good thing(if i get in the bushes/cover i get quarry, light goes on). good fun.
  16. i hope you are not inviting, there are other websites for that kind of thing. a digusted waidmann. p.s. you are all sick, and not one of you near me
  17. welcome to the site and a nice looking pup bud i have my first bull x at the moment too( bull grey x bull whippet + some beddy/collie etc) a belter of a character i must say, thief, charmer, woosy and hard buggger(ask the terrier!). i am well chuffed with his progress too, retrieving shot rabbit, pigeon etc(and showing an unhealthy interest in fox to ground!!! at 5 month) i wish you and the pup all the best, keep us posted
  18. thats the route i would take bud. reme as an armourer and then you have the know how of the trade, thats not a gunsmith but a very good start in the direction. the other option is "fine mechanic" or "tool maker" thats what i was doing before i decided to come back to the uk. a training as a gunsmith will be like rocking horse.......hair unless you have VERY good qualifications and references to beat the other candidates(the best options will be BIG firms(if there are any in the uk still??). i wish you all the best in a very interesting and dying trade(most of it is done by robots, the
  19. the only problem is you start with clicker and you should keep it going(in the field).the noise of a clicker is audible for a very long way(to most animals). just a thought.
  20. i totally agree, the names of breeders(kc) who have top class working dogs should be brought up so we can see them.
  21. get the dog out and see what she does" show the dog the rabbit" as i say to the mrs. seriously get her out and at them, she will love it.
  22. i totally agree that the breeding is paramount to get the best possible chance of a solid worker. why is it not possible to breed for looks and work? i dearly hope that at least some kc reg breeders have not sold the breeds out and just gone for looks.......... are there any KNOWN kc breeders who work as well? there should be no problem in naming them as it can only do them good. PLEASE DO NOT NAME THOSE WHO DO NOT WORK THEIR TERRIERS.
  23. alone the fact that there is any doubt whatsoever is ridiculous. an absolute joke.(if it were funny)
  24. most dogs will "bush" to a degree. prey drive, nose and will to find will determine how good they are at it(search pattern etc come with experience). do you have a dog?
