The guards were spot on with me when I bought my guns over.
The only differences between Ireland and the UK for fire arms is that:
You have to have a permit for each weapon instead of being able to hold multiple shotguns on one permit.
Its a lot more of a palava to get an FAC because you need a lot more paperwork.
But, attitudes are generally laid back and most things are an easy, if a bit long winded, process.
I sold my rifle in the UK before I moved and I have not bothered to get another because I dont need it and can’t be arsed with the rigmarole of getting one.
