Good post that mate, I think it’s once again another stupid idea where they have massively misread the room…..it’s not old fuckers like me sat in my house of an evening who is at the sharp edge (literally !) of this national f***ing disaster, it’s young people having to deal with with all this and I think they will vote in surprising ways.

I can see how, while having broom round the railway station of an evening, the mind probably wanders and, as you pick up your 8000th empty Costa cup, a bloke could be imagining “what if I had an electric car/dog/gym membership/reputation for fighting/space rocket/aircraft carrier ?” or even “I could move but the insurmountable task of selling a house, buying a house & getting on ferry is a bridge too far” Yep, can see how that would happen ?

Here’s a fact, earlier this year a big storm hit the country, massive parts of the country were without power. I was without power or water for 11 days, many people went much longer than that. Across the country it was reported that all the people with EVs couldn’t go anywhere after about 2 days…..no charge left in the car and no way to charge them. I had a full tank of diesel and was able to get out, get supplies, get bottled water, get to a place to have a hot shower….EV owners were stuck. I think, for good and bad as history proves, the British empire was surprisingly light touch in all its dealing wherever it was in the world…..so no, I wouldn’t argue that the British empire improved the things that you describe which is in fact how the famine happened.
