I read this today and then I watched old Hugh at River Cottage on the telly cooking rabbit and thought “blimey, I don’t half miss the humble rabbit” I love my little part of Ireland but one of the few terrible things about it is the complete lack of wild game. It was a massive disappointment to me when I moved over, it just never even entered my head that a place as rural and wild as this wouldn’t have any game to hunt at all.

I can hand in heart say I will genuinely offer my honest opinion to anyone about race and my perception of it’s effects of asked and not care what they think. I admit in lots of cases on a few subjects I will say “We best not talk about that because I have views that some people find extreme” and I may try and change the subject. Not because I’m ashamed or embarrassed but really out of sentiment to whoever I’m speaking too. It’s greyhound coursing mate and yes, it’s as you describe. Like most clubs it’s all a bit snooty etc I was chatting to a bloke from the Irish Coursing Club in their tent at a massive agricultural show they have here called “The Ploughing Championship”, he was a nice enough lad but the traveller boys were in there absolutely having his eyes out mate watching a video they had playing.......it’s was pretty funny.

Do you know what mate, I was actually chuffed to bits when Obama got elected. It didn’t matter that he was a black man because let’s be fair, Africans and Europeans don’t really belong in America anyway. In fact it was because he was a black man that I was pleased. To be fair, I grew up round there and they do have strange hobbies......setting fire to the deaf and dumb blokes car 2 doors down was one that was quiet popular with local kids, also the council yard and knocking f**k out of each other with baseball bats over the closed up lido ! Lol

The bottom line is, only very few people Care enough about their roots, the state of their country and the state it’s in. They couldn’t give a shit and in many ways they are the sensible ones, They are happy, they are comfortable and there’s not much they can do anyway given the external and internal forces arrayed against them. There are periods now when I just think “f**k it, let the gaff die because it deserves to die” ........it has no interest in living ! I feel despondent about the whole thing. 75 million people just voted for more of the same self hating shite,

Joking aside, the mental side of things like that fascinate me. In a completely theoretical scenario I’d rate the bloke who said “Have we got anything better” and then just cracked on with the tools available when he found out we didn’t highly. The bloke who was defeated before he started is, well, a non starter.

Exactly that, I’m not talking about rocket scientists in my personal circumstances mate. I’m talking about something that is really pretty basic but also requires some degree of attention to detail and pride in the finished article......that’s why the sweeping analogy works for me in my former world ? Most jobs, businesses or what ever have a way and a formula that works.....people who can’t follow basic instructions or put pride and care into simple things inevitably end up a liability in my humble opinion. It’s true all the same mate. I was alright at what I did but that don’t mean I could come and be alright at running one of your gyms or whatever and you would have very quick and simple ways of sussing out if I was going to be any bottle at it or not because you know the job.....simple as that mate

Have another look through mate, you will see I said you have to match people people with their character and capabilities. And it has nothing to do with values I or you or anybody else hold dear, it’s to do with if they will function in the environment you need them to function in. I know plenty of great people who I have the utmost respect for but that don’t mean they could do what I need them to do.

I totally agree that the toll was terrible, those blokes got thrown into real horror and treated like shit by the country......not much changes huh ? But I think we are confusing their reasons for going from what happened after they went. I don’t even think it was a sense of adventure of any of that, I like to think it’s just because that’s just what you did as a british man. Nothing more and as boring as that and yet mighty and noble at the same time. Its that very simple thing that no longer exists in the UK and we are poorer for it imho ?

I don’t agree with that at all mate, I think that totally devalues those men and Britain. The “pals” brigades didn’t go because they had too, they went because they had an affinity and a kinship to the people round them and to the soil beneath their feet. Thats what I like to believe anyway mate ?

That looks tidy mate, if I ever did it I’d do corrugated rather than a box profile as that would fit in better with the farm buildings already here. I don’t really know what I’m looking at but it looks very nice neat work round all the ends and corners pal, nice job ?

I like it mate, it’s quick, it’s clean and you don’t have to keep painting the bloody thing ! I built myself a barn a couple of years back in timber frame and clad the whole lot in grey sheeting, all I have to do is give it a wash down once a year
