  1. I didn’t realise is was actually used in books, I have not seen a school book since 1984 when they expelled me mate ! Lol
  2. Joking aside, the mental side of things like that fascinate me. In a completely theoretical scenario I’d rate the bloke who said “Have we got anything better” and then just cracked on with the tools available when he found out we didn’t highly. The bloke who was defeated before he started is, well, a non starter.
  3. Exactly that, I’m not talking about rocket scientists in my personal circumstances mate. I’m talking about something that is really pretty basic but also requires some degree of attention to detail and pride in the finished article......that’s why the sweeping analogy works for me in my former world ? Most jobs, businesses or what ever have a way and a formula that works.....people who can’t follow basic instructions or put pride and care into simple things inevitably end up a liability in my humble opinion. If they were going to have some wonderful, innovative idea they
  4. That’s often the same bloke who says “I had a great idea and did it like this instead” right before you f**k him off because he didn’t know what he was on with and has just cost you 3 large ! There was a plan, there was a way that worked built up from decades of knowledge but old matey thought that was bollocks and did his own thing without knowing what the f***ing hell he was doing ! Now you are 3 grand poorer and he is off searching for the next victim with his bright ideas ! Lol ? I hear you mate but it’s a very black and white way of looking at things, it don’t alw
  5. It’s true all the same mate. I was alright at what I did but that don’t mean I could come and be alright at running one of your gyms or whatever and you would have very quick and simple ways of sussing out if I was going to be any bottle at it or not because you know the job.....simple as that mate
  6. Exactly that mate, it’s not a job interview its an indicator of what you are dealing with
  7. Have another look through mate, you will see I said you have to match people people with their character and capabilities. And it has nothing to do with values I or you or anybody else hold dear, it’s to do with if they will function in the environment you need them to function in. I know plenty of great people who I have the utmost respect for but that don’t mean they could do what I need them to do.
  8. I will just point out that Armistice day is in 3 days time !
  9. I totally agree that the toll was terrible, those blokes got thrown into real horror and treated like shit by the country......not much changes huh ? But I think we are confusing their reasons for going from what happened after they went. I don’t even think it was a sense of adventure of any of that, I like to think it’s just because that’s just what you did as a british man. Nothing more and as boring as that and yet mighty and noble at the same time. Its that very simple thing that no longer exists in the UK and we are poorer for it imho ?
  10. I don’t agree with that at all mate, I think that totally devalues those men and Britain. The “pals” brigades didn’t go because they had too, they went because they had an affinity and a kinship to the people round them and to the soil beneath their feet. Thats what I like to believe anyway mate ?
  11. It’s been a race to the bottom for years in the UK and frankly I have found it heartbreaking and still do.
  12. That looks tidy mate, if I ever did it I’d do corrugated rather than a box profile as that would fit in better with the farm buildings already here. I don’t really know what I’m looking at but it looks very nice neat work round all the ends and corners pal, nice job ?
  13. Now who’s got their sales hat on ! Lol ?
  14. I like it mate, it’s quick, it’s clean and you don’t have to keep painting the bloody thing ! I built myself a barn a couple of years back in timber frame and clad the whole lot in grey sheeting, all I have to do is give it a wash down once a year
  15. Yes mate, I’m liking how they are using metal cladding more and more in buildings. I said to the wife is I ever get to rebuild the old part of my house I’d clad the whole lot in black metal.
  16. They get charged double, the normal price and then the extra on top for all the f***ing about they are going to put you through ! Lol
  17. Metal is the future ! Lol
  18. Here, it’s a good job Bird never worked for you, his poor old back would have been shot to bits trying to keep all those women satisfied........I’ll tell thee this, the kung fu would have suffered !
  19. I only employed one female but I dealt with loads and my experience is that if you come across a good one then they tend to be very, very good indeed.
  20. My personal opinion is that you should pay Newkid 50 large to completely re-roof the place mate, it’s sound like a write off ! Lol lol
  21. So, normal political service has been resumed with a decidedly European sounding manifesto......nice one America, well played ! That type of politics has all worked out so well upto this point what could possible go wrong ! Ffs !!
  22. Just be happy mate, if you are happy then it will be a success no matter what you do. Forgetting the money my one of my greatest satisfactions was empowering lads who most of society would right off and certainly some of the clients we worked for would have seen as “scum” to be able to achieve things they never dreamed they could do, push themselves harder than they thought they could go. Those lads walked in with people looking down their noses at them and walked out with the respect of everyone involved. These lads saved lots of household names hundreds of thousands by deliver
  23. A bit of that mate, it’s basically having the knowledge to complete a certain thing that is daunting to most but fairly straightforward when you know how to do it. Its shifting a lot of kit in a very labour intensive way to the most profitable and / or environmentally friendly places in the shortest amount of time, normally to fairly rigid deadlines with big cost implications. Your role is to advise your client, plan and implement, set the pace, motivate and look after your team, overcome problems if and as they arise and arrive at a successful outcome. I also like to personally
  24. Correct mate, around £65 an hour is the going rate for what I do on a long term project where you have to be there day in, day out for like 3 months to a year or something. Most of my stuff is 1 to 4 weeks maximum , I’m sickened of the gaff after that ! Lol
  25. I don’t do anything really anymore but I used to buy and sell things and later that also encapsulated the logistics of getting stuff in and out and relocated around the UK and Europe. I used to do very well before my kids came along but I gave up a lot of my hunger for work when they arrived. I made a very deliberate and conscious decision to just do enough and spend all the time with my family, that cost me a few times.....there were weeks I only had £50 to see us out, but kids don’t care about that and the world turns, there were also plenty of times it was the other way so it even
