  1. who said a full stomach ,you dont give them meat give something light, and what you said about diarrhea is aload of shit Just saying what i have seen.
  2. As a young lad i tried and saw dogs, feed before work, they all would be continually, pushing out diarrhea type shits, that was enough to tell me its not a good thing,as well as if a dog had a full stomach it could be putting pressure on lungs and diaphragm.Fox hounds do not even get feed the day before hunting and they could do 50 miles in a day, although that is partly to sharpen there nose`s
  3. Im getting trouble with mine too,at the little square plug that go`s into battery. It went out twice last night, this is only its second season,im not happy.
  4. As long as its raining the moon is covered over any way,i like to get the dogs out on lamp at least twice a week, some times that means going out on bad nights, but its better for the dog to run one rabbit than none.I just keep a few local spots for nights when its not worth the travel,or educating the rabbits.
  5. I would think german shepard cross, a half cross might be a bit heavy for rabbits though, or how about a wheaten cross,I know a half cross airedale, that can run any were, again bit slow though.I find half cross to slow.If its just for rabbits i would go for whippet, greyhound, saluki cross,If both parents have good feet would it matter what cross?
  6. Accidents can happen thats for sure, but i know for sure that if i had insurance over the years,i would be out of pocket by a substantial amount, that prob ally depends on the vet you use, a country vet or better still a grey hound vet, will only do whats needed to fix the problem, pet vets see pounds.I have been to the vets on sundays having a dog stitched, course of antibiotics, and drip for a couple of hours, and paid not even half price,of a pet person taking there dog to get worm and flea dose.
  7. faye is a ferreting dog and i dont mind fox arnt quarry to me just bunnys and she does that very well i saw that as quite intellegent as she camme face to face with a smashing yet came back un harmed with a fox round her little finger Wasnt havin a dig at your dog
  8. I Have seen foxs stop in the middle of a field and face the dog before, even saw one do it to a pack of fox hounds once a young dog finds it of putting, but if the fox started chasing my dog,i would be a bit up set to say the least.

    VHD

A Couple of summers ago i had a local place were if i needed to get the dogs exercised and home in a hurry, this is were i would take them.3 fields and it would move with rabbits,i couldnt wait for the season to start and lamp them. Then one september morning with the promise of a wind, and new moon,I went for a quick walk around the fields to check there was no stock out, there wasnt.Great the dog was fit now,i was in for good sport tonight,Only thing was last week i had walked these fields, and they moved this morning not one rabbit out, still no sighn of mixy, warrens all still open. That night(An
  12. Vhd is a nasty little disease, unlike mixy were you see the rabbits infected,This just seems to wipe them out.You can go to a spot one weekend and run your dog a lot,go back the next week and it would be like there was never a rabbit there. The time it takes for a rabbit to die is hours,if you find a dead rabbit with a little ring of blood round its arse thats vhd.
  13. nothing to worry about,i wouldnt even put on a bandage, the dog will keep it clean.
  14. The coat is a double edged sword though,i was watching a half cross run the weekend, first night was cool, but the second although windy was mild, and the dog was getting warm.I would say that unless you were in a very cold part of the country, the coat would be a disadvantage, most of the time. I tend to agree to some extent with you weasle,.... Though that could be said of almost any breed, My own Now ageing Bull X will seek out a pond or stream when out lamping some nights, So I.M.O. not just a problem for rough coated breeds... Of course, but if a smooth coat and heavy rough coat
  15. just becouse a dog has a kc dosnt mean it can not work ,i know of one or two, that work very well and im not talking about flushing a few rabbits or pheasants,or fetching sticks of water.

  17. I think the farmers very lucky the beddie whippets were not out, imagine the scene he gos out to check hes cattle but no cattle to be seen just little bleck and white shreds, I Think flint should write a book,i really do.It would be the best book ever written.
  18. Could a good vet diagnos for sure wether there as been damage to the lungs diaphram etc. ?? I think a good greyhound vet would be able to see scar tissue in a xray. But im not sure, i will ask next time im there, but hopefully that wont be for a long time.
  19. Dogs being blown as i understood it is damage to the lungs, diaphragm, ect.I also thought a dog that has been blown will recover and run again but will be short winded.Feeding a dog before running could do this kind of damage, stomach pressing on diaphragm.Thats my take.
  20. Theres a lot been said here about someone "playing god" because he ended a life, surly we all do that every time we go hunting?
  21. Good for you, maybe she would or wouldnt have done it again, but you did what you thought was right, and thats all any one can do.As you say risking getting other dogs interested in stock is a big risk
  22. I hear mike browns whippets are very good
  23. The fens is one boring place to walk though, walk the same field for a hour, add to that a salukix :lazy: But as this is complete fantasy,i guess i would get my plummer terrier,to go to ground and work a fox
  24. Dont know what you mean by that but yes, my dogs are all very well trained. Arnt yours? Well i find with a few terriers around a rabbit gets well pulled about unless your there very quick.
