  2. I've said it before. I am agin the death penalty. Not because I'm a bleeding heart or a liberal leftie but because it's an easy way out for them. When you're dead you're dead. I want them banged up for life and left with the decent thieves and bandits. It was great to read about that b'staard who killed baby P getting jellied. And when he comes out of A&E he'll get done again. He's gonna spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder and the guys in there will still nail him. Wherever they send him there will be lads who know what he did and they will be waiting. Why do you imagine s
  3. OK steve, pax. It was just too good a chance to miss! Obviously most of the replies were gonna be on the lines of banning Islam or all religions but it was asking for my hand grenade! The ability to laugh at ourselves is a traditional British virtue. Not something the mullahs are much cop at. Ric
  4. Definitely a few people on here in need of a sense of humour transplant. Have you honestly not yet realised that I'm a professional winder-upper? Getting a rise out of some of you guys is like dropping a baited hook into a fish farm. You take yourselves so SERIOUSLY! For the record my position is close to that of Poacher. I'm an old leftie, totally disillusioned with Bliar Bliar pants on fire and his cronies and deeply concerned about Muslim extremism. However, I am also concerned that the BNP and the mad mullahs are doing each others work. Good letter in the Independent the other day. The B

  6. Ho Hum. Let's ban anyone with a sense of humour, anyone who takes the p*ss, any one who says anything you don't like. Get a life sunshine. In fact, why don't you fu*k off into your nursery and come back when you've grown up?
  7. ON the other hand, just for the hell of it BAN THE BNP[
  8. I flatly refuse to believe that anyone who has ever owned a dog can doubt that they dream. I once heard this steady thump-thump-thump noise downstairs. I went down and there was one of my wee terriers fast asleep, lying on his side, and running like a . . . very fast runner. The noise was from his tail banging up on the kitchen units. I carefully picked him up, moved him out a bit and he kept on running. If that dog was not dreaming about chasing a rabbit then I challenge anybody to say what he was doing! Ric
  9. There are millions of laws legislators have spoken, Just a handful the Universe sent. The former are being continually broken, The latter can't even be bent. Ric. PS Poacher have you noticed what's happening to the capitalist economy? We now have a bigger deficit than the Greeks.
  10. Watch it surry. We East Midlanders are all descended from Vikings. I was born in a Viking village, so don't push yer luck. I might just go bare sark!
  11. I've just a very courteous reply from BW. The enquiry people have passed my query to their legal beagles, from whom I should hear soon. What a pleasant change to get a helpful and polite response from a public body. Ric
  12. If you are using factory ammo you are probably best advised to go for .223. You are not likely to get .243 on a first ticket - and yes pipple I realise that it can happen - and the widest range of factory ammo is in .223. On the other hand, your FEO may restrict you to rimfire to start with. If that happens apply for "occasional" or "opportunistic" fox. Whatever, ATB with it, YIS Ric
  13. Any one else noticed that all the bands we have mentioned play blues based rock? And who first played the blues? Black Americans. Ric.
  14. mate of mine had a big lurcher whose motto was "If it moves chew it, if it stands still screw it". If he got you backed into a corner you had a serious decision to make. Ric
  15. Deker - Agreed, there may be local by-laws, but British Waterways is the statutory body with legal control of all navigable inland waterways, be they river or canal. The landowner has limited rights over the bankside, and none over the towpath. Reservoirs and lakes fall under different legislation, although many owners cede control to BW. I am going to contact BW to establish the position re shooting from boats on navigable waters. I'll update you when I know more. I really fancy living on a narrow-boat with a shotgun, rimmy, and a couple of centrefires in a gunsafe. No bloody pirates gon

I was also brought up on those groups you mention and was even lucky enough to see Thin Lizzy at Sheffield city hall on their thunder and lightening tour in 1983. ooops, showing my age now. I too like to listen to Jeremy Vine as he gets one or 2 good debates going. fozzy Ho hum, mere children all of you. I saw Dylan, Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and The Who all on one bil
  17. Minimum legal calibre for Muntjac and CWD in England and Wales is .220 CF, minimum Muzzle Energy 1000 ft.lbs. Hornet is not sufficiently powerful, .222, .223, 22-250 are all up to spec. Minimum calibre for Roe in England and Wales is .243. You do not need .308 for any quarry in the UK except Wild Boar. BUT! You suggest that .22lr is not much more than air-gun power. Stop now. .22lr, subsonic, at 400 yards, is still travelling at 500fps and carrying 28 ft.lbs energy. That is more than enough to kill an adult human, and if you hit a kiddy . . . Don't ever make the mistake of assuming that d

  19. Well, I've just had a look at the "British Waterways" site, about shooting rights. Apparently, the towpath is a "Public Right of Way". There is no specific law that you cannot shoot over a "Right of Way" but there several common law offences. Basically, if you scare people, upset people, not to mention shoot people, you can be done bigtime. It seems to me, at the moment, that Deker got it about right. Treat a canal as a public footpath, be discreet in your behaviour, and don't upset the antis. I'm still not clear about shooting from a boat though. There seem to be quite different rules for sho

Yup. Great innit? Your taxes are keeping me now, and whan I graduate I'm gonna retire! Paid my whack and then some in my time so I'm getting it back now. Better me than dole scrounging . . . not going down that road. I have a seminar on Wittgenstein and Philosophy of Language to go to. Ric

  23. The position with regard to shooting near highways is pretty clear, but what about navigable inland waterways? There's almost always a towpath one side, so I assume that counts as a footpath, but suppose you have a single permission through which a canal runs. Can you legally shoot across the canal, provided there are no boats near the line of fire? What is the situation with regard to game birds in season? Come to think of it, can you shoot from a boat in the way you shoot from a car? All sorts of questions come to mind, so any answers will be appreciated. Ric
