I s'pose a lurcher show is just that - a show, where the judge chooses the dog which appeals most to him/ her, the dog, which he/she looks at and thinks "That dog would suit me, the ground I hunt on and the type of quarry I hunt". As we are all aware, a lurcher is a type not a breed and can look like anything from a pure greyhound to a half melted welly, so as such, there are no breed standards (no KC to spoil them? wahay! ) to compare against. If the dog looks the best to the judge on the day, that's the way it goes. My wife recently entered one of my dogs in a show and was placed 3rd, acco

Going to feed my dogs raw food!
mistwalker replied to collie/grey's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
1) Thanks 2) Whilst I do know my dogs, thanks, I merely asked the question as I thought it may confuse the dog if it's taught from a few weeks old to retrieve things gently (hopefully) and then encourage it to tear the same thing to pieces, especially if the dogs been doing fine for a few years. -
Raining? I phoned a certain wee mustelid at about 9am (knowing he was leaving a good bit earlier than me) to ask what the weather was like down there (as I was roasty-toasty in bed looking out at a rather grey wet morning) The reply was an optimistic "Once you get about half-way down it dries up nicely" Cue Misty springing out of bed, grabbing the deerhound x, camera bag and flask o coffee and exiting stage right Never mind, a good day in the end as the sun popped out for the final

Going to feed my dogs raw food!

I've been having a look at moving to this kind of feeding for a wee while and I can see the relation to the natural canine diet in the wild. I have two wee questions I'd like to ask: 1) Don't the chicken bones splinter badly and risk damaging the dogs throat? 2) If feeding whole rabbits, does this not encourage the dogs to fcuk off with their catch and eat it whilst out hunting? -
Here's a few more - some are just a few dogs I saw and liked, simple as that and finally... Awwwwwww...

After a little-longer-than-average delay, here's a few pics from yer uncle Misty Over 24" rough dog Scottish Champion of Champions - Lurcher and terrier Lurcher champ and judge A couple of old lurchers managed to spot another one later...

Just curious here - Pre-ban, how did you guys finish off a deer if your dog caught it and didn't kill it outright? I s'pose the first thought would be cut the throat, but I reckon it'd be a bit of a mess and probably take some time? Whack on the heid with a log? Play some tapes from the X-factor auditions?

Wee bit complete food in the morning and full feed at night on non-hunting days. If I'm going ferreting a large feed the night before and something light in the morning (couple of slices of toast etc.) If I'm going lamping, just give them a arger feed when we get back, but I usually give a few glucose type (sorry, no free advertising Mr Lucozade ) sweets before going out and on return to the car.

Buy a MAC. I got one last year as they're better for my photography, but they're just as good at word processing etc. that a PC does, except that they don't freeze/ crash etc. and don't get 'colds'. They're also better when doing two things at once - downlaoding stuff whilst working o pics/ essays etc.

See you guys there (if the weathers awright)

Bought a Deerhunter RAM jacket last year and whilst it's a great jacket, I still use my old para smock when it's gonna get some abuse.

I asked the same question about a year ago and the general opinion was the lightforce 170, so that's what I bought (with a red filter as extra). I can honestly say, it's feckin magic. Nuff said

Thought you might be interested in this forgotten bit of information.......... It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video of Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration. There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning! He was being drilled by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?" O llie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir." The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just

Had his tail x-rayed and sadly one of the bones was fractured, so the big fella lost half his tail yesterday. He was dopey as hell when he got back home but he's lively as hell now.

I'm absolutely bloody gutted! My collie x broke his tail yesterday (wagging it like crazy! ) and the vet's recommended amputating it about half way along as this will minimise his suffering long-term (as he'll probably have a weakness and keep breaking it). I'm bloody devasted (you know how it's reckoned that we will get one special dog in our lives? - He's mine) Has anyone else had this happen? How does it affect them and can they still run half-decently?

This post is to let those of you who know me as a member of the Kelvin Valley Lurcher and Terrier Club know that I have decided to leave the club. This has been a hard decision, but it is one which had to be made. I have spoken, at great length, with the club chairman today about my reasons and we have agreed that there are no hard feelings on either side. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Kelvin Valley all the best for the future and hope that the current situation gets better for the benefit of the club, it's members and, of course, their dogs. All future inquiries relating

Christ! I couldn't stop crying like a kid!

The Kelvin Valley would like to say 'Thanks' to the smart-arses who thought they could screw up our show this Sunday. I would like to clarify a few wee points: It appears that people have been spreading the rumour that the club has been disbanded - whilst the club has lost a couple of members in the last few months, we have also gained a couple of newbies. Someone claming to be me :realmad: contacted Ayr Greyound Stadium a few weeks ago to say that the club is now closed and the show has been cancelled - The show IS still going ahead this Sunday 13th August (I mean, come on - how could

Ladeeeeez and gentlemen! In the pink corner, allow me to introduce the newest member of the UK hunting community. After a nine month wait, we are finally proud to announce the arrival, at 5.57pm on July 31st 2006, weighing in at a lean mean fighting weight of 8lbs 3oz, of Gina AKA Mini Misty: (now ya see why I hide BEHIND the camera so much 8O )

Ask Mik on here. He's got a litter due - his Deerhound x, the dam, is feckin awesome! The father belongs to PTB on here. These pups should be amazing, if it weren't for the fact that Mrs Misty is due to have a wee one next week, I'd be after a pup.
