Got me cryin like a kid, Ditch. Missus Misty just asked why I can cry for a dog that's alive but not for a human? The answer's fairly simple - if the roles were reversed, a dog wouldn't have treated a human like that. Well done to you big guy, I salute you.
  2. He looks great. Hope he does well for you when he;s ready - at show's and stuff like that, er obviously
  3. Probably my Barbour Northumbria. Must be about 12-ish now? (just getting going )
  4. Great news. Hope he gets the rest back too
  5. Congratulations Tatty. All the best to Mother and Daughter
  6. Currently running a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 deerhound out of Dave Platts' stuff. Yes, she took longer than my other dogs to start, but once she started - she started! At 28", she's not a great rabbiting specialist, but she gets a few lamping. I would imagine that if there were no ban she would be quite good on the hares around here, have the renowned deerhound hatred of foxes and maybe even put in the odd good show on roe deer Nature-wise (now, this is something I don't hear much of when a particular cross is mentioned) she's perfect for me. Laid back at home, likes her own space, gentle, thin

  8. Lookin good. How tall is he now?
  9. Gallop to catch up!? my deerhound (and my old saluki x when she was alive and working) make an arse of me - images of a skinny streaking running past with a look of "27 gears?! I've only got four legs and you can't keep up ya fat lump!" in their eyes! lol
  10. The bikes a great way of getting the dogs fit. I agree with whats been said already, start with a long-ish lead, then once the dog gets used to it, you can do away with it mostly. There's a disused railway track near me which has just been tarmac'd this year, it's a lot safer than getting them onto wee country roads with the feckin boyracers tearing around.
  11. Took my three out for a wander tonight along an old disused railway line that's now used as a path for walkers etc. As we were heading for home, with a cracking sunset lighting our way - about 1 1/2 miles from the village, the deerhound x springs a cracking roe buck, it paused for a second then legged it over the fence into a field of deep grass - about two feet tall. All three dogs were off the leads and set off too (obviously I tried to call them back, but either they didn't hear me or they thought all th shouting was me cheering them on - as if ) Anyway, they had no chncce of catching
  12. My main dog at the moment is 3/4 Greyhound 1/4 Deerhound and I'm happy enough to say that'll do for me in the future (although the wife's beddy whippet is handy for mouching about - the deerhound does it for me). I've got plenty of mates who favour the bull x, but personally - bein a bit of a pansy - I'd never keep a dog I couldn't beat in a fair fight

  14. Just watched some of the second one and the feckers are saying it's okay for an older man to marry a girl before puberty!!! They feckin encourage paedos!?? I just got back from hols tonight, I flew from Glasgow five days before the attack. I flew with my wife and 11mth old daughter. We were originally planning on leaving on the day of the attack, but got cheaper flights. Thanks Christ we did! And I mean THANK CHRIST! If we had flown on our original day, these feckers would have been trying to kill my wife and daughter!!! F@ck that! I agree the government needs to do something NOW! Boot them a

  17. Just saw this thread - sorry I missed it yesterday. One of my best mates was my section commander in the Scots Guards. The first time he gave us a fieldcraft lesson (way back in 1989 - chr!st I feel old!) he emptied a pile of fawn coloured folders onto the ground and said "Any of you who want to learn this by the book - there's the books, read them. Anyone who wants to stay alive when the sh!t hits the fan listen in. In 1982, I was 20 yrs old. We were preparing for a nice wee Trooping the Colour in a few weeks, bit of shiny stuff, face on the telly etc. we were called to a Battalion muster p
  18. Feck me. C'mon Mods, can't we get an age filter or something on this site? (at least a mental age thing?) You'd think we'd have enough trouble with anti's etc. without petty bickering among ourselves about sh!te like this.
  19. My daughter's teething just now, so a few sleepless nights and early starts. The other day saw an early wake up, so out we went a little earlier than usual for our morning walk and I thought I'd take a few pics. Here we go...
  20. Cheers troops. Had a top day: had a run-in with my sales manager at work (a conceited, arse who tries to bully people around - tried it with the wrong bloody one  ), nearly came to blows, GM told me (off the record) if it happens again... try to get him to hit me first cos he's lookin to get rid o the fecker anyway - top bloke. Came home, Mini-Misty's at Granny's, and my good lady had booked a table at our fav restaurant. Makes it almost worthwhile getting another ... year... older....?
  21. Not much of a grey area there then, big guy?
  22. My personal thoughts on it are this: Your dogs personal fitness training regime should mimic the conditions you will work it under. If you're dog is a saluki x (or similar) which you use on hares etc. (pre-ban of course), then I agree that long distance/ endurance type training (a few miles beside the bike at a pace that pushes the dog for a little while, but not too much, then a slower recovery pace, with maybe a short 50yd sprint near the end, then a gentle cool-down) is ideal. This gets the dogs cardio-respiratory system and muscles conditioned for a, possibly, lengthy course, followed by
