  1. Offer some soakseed which has just chitted as well
  2. The chicks are self supporting so the same dosage is fine. Dosage: Tylan 5ml spoon per pint is what I use over 14 days, some people use 3ml per pint for 20 days...
  3. If he is feeding her he has an interest and is bonding with her, leave them together and see what happens. If they do not breed this year they defo will next year....They may not be long enough together or the hen may not be completely settled in her new surroundings..
  4. Sounds like a respiratory infection called ornithosis, Ornicure is doxycycline which in my view is the best drug you could use to cure it administered over 30 days in the drinking water, that is if this is the case.
  5. Did you get a hen Goldy for that Cock in the second photo? he looks like a big yellow bird and though the photo does not show him that well he looks to have a good square blaze too
  6. By the way what rearing food are you offering?
  7. Well done The hen is well capable of rearing the chicks by herself. The above advice is sound advice because the cock goldy may throw the chicks out of the nest in an effort to drive the Hen to nest again, leaving him in view of her will keep him keen for the next round because Goldfinches are usually in peak breeding condition about now, they come into condition later than other natives and fill eggs up to mid august when others are starting to moult. This time in the breeding season is the best for muling and hybrids...
  8. Nice photo's Hen mules are sometimes the best foster hens you'll come across. Wise move....
  9. Here is a copy of my post....... ''As above, has a damaged beak but eats ok free to anyone who can use it as its in an aviary on its own :(must collect from fife)... I'm posting this for a non member PM me if interested.....'' If I get any response I'll contact you
  10. I'll post it on Native birds forum
  11. A tenner each is a fair price in my opinion even cheap! Moll are you giving up breeding because you say you are keeping 2 cocks and 1 hen? If you decide next spring to breed them once more you may be better keeping 2 hens and 1 cock....
  12. :icon_redface: Kev I owe you a pint
  13. Judging by the photo's they are still taking the colour so continue as you are doing until the end of the moult, even though the hen plucked them they will moult out again and the colour should be even throughout...
  14. Its one and the same persicaria Maculosa, we call it redshank on this side of the pond. I've been watching a pair of goldies feeding on sunflower hearts which I hung out for them, they are rearing a brood who all visit everyday and they are devouring the sunflower hearts so that may be another food you could offer your pates...
  15. Those photo's are proof you are a dedicated birdman, its not easy to achieve this and I take my hat off to your husbandry. :notworthy: They love the redshank which has a soft husk pates can crack easily. Well done Craigy.
  16. No worries kev I was going by the photo's, it's difficult when you are faced with a badly marked cock or a well marked hen, a photo of the top of the wing is the real decider for me or if the bird lays an egg its defo a hen I respect your opinion and if its a cock I owe you a drink next time I'm in South Yorkshire or you are in Dublin (Edited to correct west Yorkshire to south Yorkshire )
  17. Moll you could cut both ends off a mineral bottle securing the poison inside the centre of it so the mice cannot carry it away and your hens will not have access to it then...
  18. Any update on curly larry and mo?
  19. Looks like a hen, in the third photo where your right-hand thumb is should be brown if its a hen and black if its a cock but I'd say a hen bird....
  20. Here you go...... http://www.nativebirds.co.uk
  21. Google & Wikipedia are the best tools for a keyboard maniac like me keep us posted on curly larry and mo's progress By the way I like your Avatar, my favourite Welshman.....
  22. Lovely shot, thanks for sharing. You obviously have wildlife photography down to a fine art
  23. First replace the nest pan, get a handful of moss and fashion out a nest in the new nest pan with a light bulb, then get an anti mite spray and treat the parents & chicks with it. Clean out all your cages and spray them with a good anti mite treatment including perches and every nook & cranny in the cages. This should do the job but do it immediately because mite can suck the life out of chicks in a very short time. Obviously the nest is infested which may force the hen to stop sitting the chicks at night time which results in the chicks chilling and dying but these chicks may be ol
  24. You should name them 'The 3 Amigo's' I know you are well up for hand rearing them Hope you dont mind me suggesting you dust the live food with calcium powder before feeding it as in my experience I have found it can bring them on really quickly.
