  1. Where have you been? He's not the first and I'm sure he doesn't make as much money from his ferrets as ferretland http://www.ferret-land.co.uk/ I don't see any reason to be a ferret breeder unless you really love ferrets because there's no way you can care for a litter well and still make a profit selling them at £10 each. I bred once for myself and will never do it again. I gave away all but 2 of the kits. Ferrets can be good pets but this is not a pet forum and breeding for looks has already produced some sad looking ferrets with big price tags. Angoras would get covered in dirt if t
  2. i think keeping records of how your stocks bred is vital whether its dogs ferrets whatever , the old saying goes put the best to the best to get the best , its so easy to just stick any old shite together & produce more shite You see so many mainly dog related requests from clueless fools regarding the up & coming breakdown of there bitches & there asking for a sire to line her , how does that one work, any old crap will do as long as the bitch is lined & the resulting litter is up for some silly price ultimately everyone wants good quality sound stock , you dont get t
  3. Handle after the ferrets had a good feed up of meat when its to stuffed to care basically, , get it used to having the insides of its mouth looked at & its feet , just daily normal handling's all that's needed. Also i assume its a lone ferret , might be an idea to get it a playmate , then they will tire each other out as they tend to be more nippy when there's lots of pent up energy
  4. In breeding done by someone who knows what there doing can be beneficial, as it will fix good traits & desired things, & it will also bring forward bad points a hell of a lot quicker than breeding unrelated ferrets, but I think breeding period should be done by people who know what there doing & have a good knowledge of genetics
  5. i would certainly use the next 12 months to observe this Jill , she can brought out of season with other methods , but i would use the time to note things down about her , The biggest thing for me would be handle-ability, just see how she is this time next year & then you can always think about the following spring
  6. To be honest I would think long & hard about breeding anything, ferrets dogs whatever, if your main reason is a cosmetic one I seriously dont think its a good enough reason for you to be simply breeding because you can take the colour out of the equation , if your intention is to work these animals then next spring will not imo be long enough for you to make a decision as to whether the jill is worthy of breeding from her temperament may well ok now , but that could all change when she reaches sexual maturity , personally if the only reason you want to breed is because you like the
  7. Thanks very much for the birthday wishes folks , much appreciated, I spent most of the morning squashed between a rusty bath & a gate watching a fox earth , but my patience paid off , got a few pics not the best quality but still enjoyable , a few other pics as well a grasshopper & this little fat dog called sam
  8. To be honest as it was an accident what I would have done was got the jill spayed as soon as you realised she was pregnant
  9. Did anyone notice irish stevies ferret is wearing pj's??? I had to look twice at it  looks like its got a strait jacket on
  10. he needs a companion , if he is stuck in a cage all day & is only getting a run round a couple of times a week he will he have loads of pent up energy, does he have a run of some kind outside so he can play ?

  19. there at it in bristol as well 2am sky news

  20. I went a walk over where theres a private fishing place last week & bumped into this bloke who was carp fishing, so i had a lovely afternoon chatting to him & I took a few pics , very enjoyable afternoon its a hobby i could get into if i had the money to buy the stuff & knew how to do it
  21. As i understand it carnivores rip meat & swallow it because the gut breaks it down & they derive all they need from what they have eaten , i dont think its a case of ferrets not being able to literally digest vegetable matter , it just takes longer for there bodys to deal with it , so an animal fed on a diet of kibble consisting of soya/ vegetable based protein will eat more because the animal's hunger isnt satisfied as quickly as that of a ferret fed on flesh i have certainly found theres a lot less being craped out which i take as a good sign when fed solely on a meat/whole prey
  22. feeding should be simple , i feed meat only & whole carcass, and to be honest mine dont seem to lack anything , but there care is basic, there diet is species appropriate , there housing adequate , i dont add anything to there diet that i don't feel they need ie milk eggs etc , it has worked for me for donkeys years take the guesswork out of feeding there meat eaters simple as that
  23. Out with me camera weather willing of course
