    Well thanks for clarifying. Apparently quoting someone and then saying “you….” is speaking generally not specifically about the person quoted. Lol ‘You’ have me wrong then. I’m not defending any social media, I’m defending a persons right to use it and not be called a slag or whatever and have all sorts of insinuations levelled against those involved to justify the witch hunt.

    That's what they do when they get a big following. It increases the profitability and provides backup accounts if they get hacked or banned. I don't really know if a million followers is a lot on tiktok, but on Instagram it'd be more than enough to have a manager advising on branding and strategy.

    Maybe the intimacy of getting a private one off and being able to instigate a private conversation with his obsession? I mean he obviously wanted more but as a first step. It clearly went sideways and he felt rejected, hence he got shot.

    I’m not on TikTok but most of these post Facebook apps sort of thrive on open accounts. Of course it doesn’t mean you have to have one and I think it’s probably a fair call. I genuinely don’t consider the pics I’ve seen as provocative. But I understand your point. Selling selfies is the one thing that has really raised my eyebrow. To me that was a big mistake.

    Totally agree with the second part. Agree with the first part but at that stage, what do you do about it? Do you take her off her successful platform or do you try to manage it?

    But what do you do mate? As a parent. It wouldn’t have been set up as a commercial account initially, it will have just grown out of a regular private account as they do. She posted regular teenage girl shit on an app full of girls and young women doing the same. Her parents were monitoring it, even warned this lad he was getting out of order. At what point should a parent say to their kid, “no, you’re too successful on TikTok, you need to shut your account down”?

    Imagine if that girls following just fell off a cliff and the. She started taking notice of the comments because she wanted to know why. There’s always a minority of haters spewing utter bile. She now takes those to heart and wham, she tops herself. That shit is happening week in week out but very few people really give a shit.

    You don’t think I can understand the overwhelming feeling of duty to protect a child from the world? Like that doesn’t exist until you’ve sired a child? It doesn’t even stand up to scrutiny given there are parents who would and do allow this. I think you have a very skewed view of social media tbh based on that second paragraph. I don’t see it as anything if the sort. She just found fame in her own little way and enjoyed it and where it was going. Yes that payed too. Frankly the mental health effects are far more dangerous than the rare instance of a psycho going off on one.

    Look you fellas are either happy to discuss this with me or not? If you don’t feel like I’m allowed a valid opinion because I don’t have kids then just don’t engage with me. I haven’t looked at her account, just the photos that have been shared and read the report on what she typically posts. It’s just standard teenage girl shit, except she’s been very successful at it. I really don’t think there’s any evidence of anything greatly untoward.

    I don’t know. If you remember I posted a thread a year or two back on a Netflix doc about the dangers of social media. How it is designed to be addictive and we are letting our children use this drug without any real oversight. I think that is far more dangerous tbh but these things need to be looked at as a whole. pandoras box is open now and there’s no shutting it. I also think social media can be a massive force for good and for freedom.

Im saying social media offers very successful and dignified careers these days, which is something completely overlooked by many of an older generation.     Not being funny mate but I haven’t the time to ask every parent. And clearly there are two that are happy, hers. There are tons of other teenage kids with similar accounts. I wasn’t even arguing that parents should be happy about it. I was arguing against the usual internet lynch mob with chants of “slut” and “blame the parents” and trying to cast an alternative view of what the mob seems to be so sure of.
