No still doesn’t make it okay.
-
Yeah yeah the uk are bad too. That makes it alright.
-
Yeah sure, I put high value in what comes out of his mouth. Man's a total bullshitter. "Training exercises, I'm not going to invade"

Of course its the same. Once a people become independent then they are separate. Ukraine's political independence predates the Soviet union. They were recognised by Russia as a separate republic to Russia within the Soviet union, and they were recognised by Russia as a separate sovereign state after the dissolution of the Soviet union. You go back far enough and they are of the Rus people, just like we are of the Germanic people.
-
So was Russia!
-
I never said Ukraine had any autonomy in the USSR. It doesn't make any difference. Russia was a separately recognised entity to Ukraine, by their own f***ing treaty! Then after the USSR they recognised Ukraine as a sovereign state, separate to Russia by memmorandam. Fyi England doesn't have the legal ability to make their own laws within the UK, yet England isn't Scotland etc. Of course Ukraine has shared history with Russia, theyre both of the 'rus' people. So? England shares history with Germany, both Germanic. England's not part of Germany...
-
It could literally have been anyone, it doesn't matter, it's Ukraine, not Russia!
-
The socialist republic of Ukraine unified with the Russian socialist republic and others to form the USSR through a treaty agreed by all. They are not and were not part of russia, not by name or otherwise. Just like Scotland is not part of England or visa versa.
-
The Soviet republic of Russia may have been defacto in charge of the union of soviet socialist republics but that doesn't make the Ukrainian socialist republic part of Russia any more than Scotland is England.

Reading mixed reports that Russian warships in the black sea have been attacking merchant vessels with rockets and naval gunfire today. Nations mentioned include, Moldova, Japan, Turkey and Romania. Two of those are NATO members.

No doubt pictures of Russian PoWs and downed Russian aircraft is a powerful propaganda piece for the Ukrainian resistance. I’ll give you that much.
-
Yeah, I know conscription is the norm over in Eastern Europe. Especially when you think you’re about to be invaded, lol. I just expected Russia to be sending their more professional and experienced units for such a historic and important operation. Maybe these lads are…
-
I can’t tell if you agree with me or disagree
-
My very first word was ‘unconfirmed’! It just struck me how young they looked. Genuinely expected the Russian forces to be the more experienced they had. Those boys look like conscripts.

So they are not the world fifth largest iron ore producer and they’re trade isnt heavy with Europe? If they cut off Europe they will want someone to take up that lost trade and China will be only too happy so they can cut off AUS.
-
Look I don’t want to get bogged down in this but Russia is the worlds fifth largest iron ore producer, the largest in Europe. They’re a fossil fuel and agricultural super power. I haven’t even looked into other raw products like rare earth elements etc. That’s what I mean. China makes a lot of shit but they need raw resources to do that.
-
I take it back
-
Just realised I wrote ‘was’. I meant wasn’t, like you.
-
Unconfirmed pictures of Russian PoWs. f**k me they don’t look old…
-
Tbf I think stopend has conducted himself with respect. No doubt he and I greatly disagree but he’s being reasonable and I’d like that to continue.
-
Maybe. My understanding is Russia is a massive producer of raw products (resources) and China can’t get enough for their massive building projects. Both are currently economically tied in with adversarial states. AUS provides a lot of resource to China and Russia provides a lot to Europe. To cut those dependencies it’s natural they throw in together. Mate, if I’m not mistaken our entire destroyer fleet is currently in maintenance at Portsmouth! They’ve just cancelled the much needed interim anti ship missile, delaying having one at all for ten f***ing years and integration of two game cha

That’s a big topic. I personally don’t think open peer on peer warfare will necessarily lead to all out nuclear war, and frankly that should scare us just as much. But without going into that, you’ll notice I used the term adversary rather than enemy. That means we compete with them like chess rather than just fight. Just like in the Cold War. We up defence spending, we innovate to give us technological dominance, we flatten their proxies, we use whatever influence we have and can get to make them think “f**k that, let’s go home”. If we don’t, they’ll gain dominance and we’ll be their bit
-
China needs resources, Russia needs customers. Both have separate areas of interest, initially at least. Both have common adversaries. This is a Cold War and we aren’t competing like we need to if we are going to win it.
-
China have been steadily (rapidly) building their military to challenge the US in the East and eventually the pacific. They’d have been mental not to look for an ally for that next phase and a very convenient one is Russia, both will have their own regions of influence/interest and if they push on two fronts simultaneously it’ll split the Wests forces. Russia can focus on the Europe and the Middle East while China focuses on the pacific. China are the ones that are going to make the big move and Russia will want to be ready to capitalise on the opportunity. IMO Ukraine happened now becaus

I’d be staggered if this wasn’t coordinated with China. Putin needs a buffer zone because he knows what’s coming next.
