  1. One, waiting for a pup out of my mates bitch. But tbh I'm in no great rush, I've bearly got enough work for this dog. I think two is plenty for most, hopefully each having different strengths but equally able to do a few different jobs.
  2. I find a terrier a little steadier when hunting, finds it easier to work rabbit in bramble but then will not be quite so strong hunting all day in heavy ditches etc. A spaniel should have enough bottle for rats, sqiurrels etc but if bushing fox is your game then I would want terrier blood in there to give it that hard drive on them. I've never seen a spaniel tangle with a fox so would just be a bit unsure how keen they would be after getting hit by one? Plenty of dogs show hunting drive before they realise that a fox bites hard.
  3. Off topic but this was interesting, Bite Force Quotient; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bite_force_quotient Pound for pound bite forces.
  4. For what it's worth I agree with you, spaniel terrier would be my preference. But do you not think the collie would make for a slightly less mad hunter? I think they would ultimately be as usefull as each other but I can see how a collie terrier would suit a different person to a spaniel terrier.
  5. The animal right fraternity hit a lot of different groups, hunters, shooters, fishermen, farmers, pharmaceuticals..... the list goes on. If we ALL united it's a war that would last a few weeks with 100% victory. It's never going to happen but collectively we hold a lot of weight.
  6. Personally I would go Springer x Fell. But tbh I think any terrier, collie or spaniel mix would suit, as long as the parents are of the right stuff. Collies aren't quite as mad when hunting as a spaniel but don't lack much in nose or drive either. Just gonna have to chance it reddawn..... When my terrier gets on a bit I'm going down a similar route. Make for a stronger animal on heavier ground and add a bit of nose. I wouldn't be keen on much if any hound blood because for bushing, beating and ferreting etc a terrier or spaniels nose is enough. And to get another straight terrier would be
  7. Funny you should say, I have noticed the same. Last year was really quiet with the rats. In a month or two I expect they will be well established around the pens and feeders, get to have to fun with the terriers then! Not great numbers of fox about really.
  8. We shoot a few duck. We had the first day on Saturday and for early in the season they flew like Spitfires! They have been fed using those automatic feeder things and have grown very cautious of humans. I've never seen ducks as high as some of these were flying. They usually produce decent shots but some of them were f*****g ridiculously high birds. We've never fed them away from the ponds and now we use these automatic spinner feeder things there wouldn't be an advantage for us.
  9. I'll get a picture up tomorrow Matt. When you say horrible, do you mean ugly or in bad state? The whole thing is immaculate, like it's just come out the shop. I assume the sheath is original, it's nothing fancy, just a simple stitched leather pouch type. It's got Sheffield, Pat Mitchell, Handmade printed on the blade but I'll get a pic up tomorrow morning. Do you think it's a decent usable knife? If I can't get a shaving edge on it it's a substandard blade as far as I'm concerned, but I haven't tried yet.
  10. Haha, I wouldn't be suprised if she came out with it just to get May's back up. His pathetic and childish response proved it worked. What a grade A fanny, I hope he has a mental breakdown when Badgers are getting blasted up and down the country.
  11. pm matt(midnight) he knows far more than me there was a bbc2 programme with that dick craven here http://www.bbc.co.uk...rammes/p00ntkz8 He's making me something a bit special so I'll run it by him next time we speak.
  12. Cheers everyone. Gin, the clip pont on this knife looks like it would penetrate tank armour! Once I have a decent edge on it it will be a handy piece of steel!
  13. I've had a scan of google and found Stuart Mitchell's site, but it's a bit brief. The edge on the blade at the minute is shite, I should think it's been used for minor stuff and never in it's life sharpened so just dulled it off. I need to put a decent 20o edge on it and hopefully have a very useable knife. Anyone know the steel used?
  14. Well, the hysterical cow would've had a f*****g baby if she knew untrained cowboys were driving around the countryside with highpowered rifles shooting foxes 24/7 anyway! The majority of the public are ignorant fools that don't deserve an opinion.
  15. This isn't strictly the correct section but it's a hand made knife and theres plenty here know there shit re knives. Opening shoot on Saturday and one of the guns, an old boy, gifted me an immaculate pat mitchell clip point sheath knife. He was given it a while ago and wanted to give it to someone that would actually get some use out of it. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on these knives? It looks a beauty, I'll try and get some pics up later. FAO Midnight, I'm still keen a feck to have the knife you're crafting for me!
  16. Not cancelled no. I believe the 6 week trial has already started, or at least will be starting imminently! The hairy twats petition just might get the whole thing debated in parliament again though.
  17. I'm sure the first Hunting Act repeal e-petition reached well over a 100k and Labour basically told us 'tough shit the law stands'. I can't see the gov' backing down now.
  18. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19709033 E-petition leaves badger cull 'up for debate'
  19. I wouldn't say we are weak, just not dominant. We can't do what the f**k we want and expect it not to have repercussions. We played the game and got the result desired without causing ourselves excess agro from other nations. The Americans may well do what the f**k they want, but that's one of the perks of being the most powerfull nation on this planet. The Yanks aren't gonna stand shoulder to shoulder with us forever, just as long as we are of use to them. When that time comes we had better not have pissed off too many others by playing dirty.
  20. Locked up all day in solitary, everyday for the rest of his life. The only thing to break the insanity inducing boredom will be trips for a good old session of water boarding and a beating.
  21. I'd have a bash! You can always check them as fit for human consumption first. Be interesting to see what can be done with one in the kitchen really.....
  22. Tam, that's hardly bloody empirical evidence is it. It's nothing more than an insight into the human condition. I've seen some stunningly beautifull things, it always makes me stand in awe and leaves me feeling quite humble and satisfied with my insignificant little part in such a fascinating and beautifull world, but never once have I thanked God for it. Every ounce of my intelligence and dare I admit to it Instinct tells me that there is no God. I'm an Atheist if there ever was one, that's not to say I don't feel the same as you when I see something beautifull.
  23. Why do folk always look at God as some kind of David Blaine figure It comes down to a person's definition of God............. As many have their own individual faith, they also have their own interpretation of God. H&J I don't think Simo was giving reason for the existance of an almighty being, just a personal expression of his own faith.
  24. And that's the bottom line.............. Science can be disputed because it is based on observations, to dispute a hypothesis you dispute the observations. Faith, ultimately is based on nothing more than faith. I can't argue with that, it's not madness, it's not science, it's very simply faith.......
  25. Read somewhere a while back that there's currently some uncertainty over the uncertainty princable, some experments have been done which show that things may not be as uncertain as previously thought.. http://www.bbc.co.uk...onment-19489385 Malt, that was quite interesting. I'm sure you already know, the Uncertainty Principle is one of the cornerstones of Quantum Mechanics which in turn is one of the pillars of a Grand Unified Theory. So that is quite fascinating....... but as with the superluminous neutrino, I'll wait for the final verdict...... As I have mentioned previously, mu
