  1. Then I wish the c**t would just give us a heads up and save us all this bother! Your tablets kicked in mate?
  2. There is no light in a black hole, it's gravity is that immense even photons can't escape. It even distorts time. If you went into one and I was watching from a safe distance, I would forever see your image on the event horizon, but you would be pulled into atoms and go beyond it.. but the whole theory of time travel is based on distorting time, is a time warp not just a bend in time?? Aye, so Brian Cox said on the Dr. Who thing I watched a few months back.. Something to do with somehow bending your future light cone so it intersects with your past one.. I watched that and
  3. Gnasher mate, you're right by our laws of physics in this universe. Problem is we are assuming all 'this' came from nothing simply because it all came from a singularity and expanded. We literally have no idea what was there before, if indeed there was a 'before', and if there was a before how the laws of that universe (for lack of a better word) behaved. We just don't know and will possibly be limited by the boundary conditions of our universe. It doesn't mean science doesn't exist outside of it, just that are not able to work with from within ours.
  4. If that's the case we can never know as we can't measure or see anything outside of our current universe. The question is probably unanswerable. Alternatively there may be many universes all within some greater mother universe, where energy and physics exists but in a form we don't know of, then under certain circumstances a singularity is formed and the resultant Big Bang forms a new universe with evolved laws of physics, possibly unique. I thought the idea of the universe expanding and collapsing was out of vogue since it was theorised that dark energy was driving the expansion of t

  6. Yeah, that's one idea. The immediate events after the Big Bang created Hydrogen and Helium isotopes correct, all other elements we have were created through nuclear fusion in stars.
  7. Right I've read back through what I've written. What I'm trying to say is; people are asking that if there was nothing where did it all come from. What I have tried to explain poorly is that just because there was a Big Bang doesn't mean that all the energy of the universe didn't exist before. Also that if there indeed was 'nothing' that we don't understand how physics worked then so can't say how you get stuff from nothing. We don't even know if time started with the Big Bang or before... Simply, we've hit the edge of human knowledge. Which in my opinion is where God always seems to s
  8. I'm saying I really don't know, our laws of physics state that in an enclosed system everything that is there must remain there and can't be added to. But at the time of the Big Bang some weird shit was going in with the laws of physics. Before the Big Bang we don't even know if time existed or if it was even the time line we are on now. Perhaps before the big bang was a different time line that ended before our began. We just don't know mate, there's lots of ideas. I don't/can't 100% rule out the possibility of anything... But I'd put a ridiculously low probability on it personally.
  9. Where did time come from..... f***ing hell Gnasher you're not asking simple questions! LOL I hope my above post tries to answer that all the mass and energy of the universe was infact there at the very beginning, before it's difficult to say... Time is by our definition a measure of the evolution of events in our universe. You could describe it using causality, every event must follow it's cause and that distinguishes the direction of time. So if you travelled back in time you would have reversed the direction of time and see events happen before their cause, windows smashing before th
  10. Im well out of my depth here and its probably late in the game and im well behind ..........but is the first law of Astrophysics not " you cannot make something.....out of nothing ".....hence if nothing existed before the big bang where did time come from assuming with time you must have a start. Conservation of energy is I believe the first law of thermodynamics. Bearing in mind that all mass is a form of energy [E=mc(squared)] so when I say energy I mean mass and energy; this means that in an enclosed system, in this case our universe, the amount of energy is finite cannot be added
  11. Of course we would, it's our taxes that pays the teachers wages and they entered to the profession in the full knowledge of their holiday allowances and restrictions. This pupil term time holiday ban is not something we the public have any choice over. It's just another bullshit policy that encourages the rules to be broken and teaches kids no respect of the system for exactly that reason.
  12. Another bullshit policy. It should obviously be discouraged but why banned with a fine? Surely the most sensible thing to do would be to allow it but ensure it has minimal effect on the pupils studies. They could be given a homework plan to help with that and allowed say a maximum of two weeks holiday. I really f***ing hate these stupid f***ing policies that just punish everyone.
  13. Doesn't that say more about the human condition than the existence of God? Perhaps when some have seen the shite there is in the world they need to put some reason to it all to make some sense of it, to keep their own direction and focus in life. It's not very comforting to live in a world where right and wrong have no real worth. Or where really bad shit can happen and go unpunished.
  14. I've got feck all constructive to add to this as I'm not soldier but got a mate who's high up in RAF Regt. and they obviously have to do their annual fitness test, he said exactly the same, loads of youngsters that have excellent cardio but no upper/core body strength. They can run miles in minutes and score high on bleep test but can't pull/press up for shit. Out of interest how strict are the army on press up/sit up form? The Royal Marines press ups are those elbows tucked into your sides ones, absolutely smash your triceps! I see a lot of people think they know what each exercise is but
  15. My understanding of it is this..... It was a black hole, black star that self imploded as they tend to do from time to time. That is why the universe is expanding, we are all moving away from the centre of the explosion. It happened that long ago they said the light from it wouldn't be seen but it would have turned into radiation waves. They spent fortunes on equipment to pick up these waves, all trying to be the first with proof. They were all beaten by a couple of armature scientists with homemade equipment in America What caused the big bang to occur? What happened a millionth of a secon

  17. Anybody ever picked the mind of a Buddhist? I've had a few deep convos with casual Buddhists and it's quite thought provoking if nothing else. Got a mate who discovered Buddhism after half a lifetime of 'colourful' living, gave him a bit of clarity and focus. He has a hell of a job justifying his blood lust though, fucks his head up. It's a good example of taking what you need from religion and leaving what you don't.
  18. Gnasher mate, some of us Atheists have a conscience and a strong sense of ethics, ethics we have developed through as much thought on the subject as any person of a religious background. Ultimately, I have no body to answer to but myself, no God, no judgement day, no salvation. I have one life on this Earth and it's my conscience and pride that keeps me right not fear of God. I would say we are guided by our conscience using our experiences and readings as our start point, Christians are no different only they use the Bible as their start point. I don't believe it's any easier being an ath
  19. Mate, all I know is Penny is fit a f**k!......... and if that geek Leonard can pull her then there's gotta be hope for me!
  20. Cop out.. Go on Born, show him the equations that prove that everything can come from nothing like it did in the big bang.. Bit out of my depth that Malt, just tickled me "all that big bang shite", LOL. Showing the universe is expanding is one thing but showing what happened at time = 0 is another all together. There are many views out there on something we can currently only theorise, how it all went off etc, but I understand they share the fundamental that all we have now was there before just in a different form following a different set of laws. 'Nothingness' isn't quite accur
  21. Malt, it's one of Man's strongest virtues. Our rational mind gives us great potential and our faith gives us the strength and endurance to achieve it. Combined with our competetive nature this has made for one of the most adaptable and successfull lifeforms the Earth has ever seen.
  22. You say you are not a believer Born, but surely you believe in the things we know through scientific discovery and faith in the people who discover them? Science is all about faith when you think about it, it's what keeps you ploughing on into the unknown. Faith that your beliefs will carry you though! Just because you don't hold them about a deity up in heaven don't mean it not the same thing, it still concerns the same part of the human make up. You could even say it's this that gives us our soul, even if you're not of a religious persuasion.. PS. Hope that makes some sort of sense, my
  23. WILF, I've tried to make my feelings clear, so you'll know I'm no believer but that post was very worthy of a 'like' even from someone like me. That explains faith and personal religion perfectly.
