There's no easy answer or solution to the middle east and the Islamic terror threat imo. We can blame whoever we like and as passionately as we like but like it or not the middle east and the west (UK, US, Russia etc) have a intimate history for one reason.... It's hardly surprising that there are so many Islamists running about when the single most strategically important region on this planet is also their backyard.

That Was Horrific But Its A Different Scenario To Todays Incident As This Bloke Was No Innocent Man . . But The Tube Incident Showed 1 Thing Our Security People Wouldn't of Been Taking Pictures And Trying To Negotiate , These Snipers Have The Experience & Talent To Off Dealt With This , They Wouldn't Off Just Taken A Pot Shot , Once That Trigger Was Pulled He Was Dead & The Pics I Was Looking that This Morning They'd Off Had at V.Good View Of Him , If This Had Happened In The UK I Believe The 1st Opportunity They Got After Hearing He Was Alone A Sniper Would Of Been Deployed !! If the Aussies KNEW he was alone and there was no bomb threat I dare say he'd of been sniper fodder. They work very closely with our anti terror/hostage rescue teams, I really can't imagine we'd have done anything different. Maybe I'm wrong...

Indeed neither of us are surprised at the outcome and we both just disagree on procedure. I just trust our security services implicitly. Only thing I'll add, if it happens again tomorrow they may well act aggressively and impulsively. Just like our forces did on the tube with that brazilian lad after 7/7. They have a hard job, damned if they do and damned if they don't.

They don't know the full facts ,I.E is there only one ? whats weapons he has got or explosives like he claims ,they wont make a move until people start getting shot or its 99% on the cards...they will always go down the peaceful route until they have no chose however long it takesWell 1 Poor Innocent Person Is Dead . . Bet There Family Wish They Hadn't Of Treated This Fukcer With Kid Gloves & Taken The 1st Opportunity They Had !! Deerman is right though. One innocent died through operational caution, many more could have died by acting before a clear tactical picture was gathered. Lol Ho

I don't believe he said about target shooting, just shooting on a club range to improve his ability in the field. Which to my understanding of the law is legal with expanding ammo. Whether there are ranges that cater for this specifically I would be interested to know....

Alsone, I'm pretty sure there's nothing illegal about using expanding ammo on ranges for zeroing purposes. As things stand it would be breaking the conditions of my FAC to enter a target shooting discipline full stop, but I am conditioned to use expanding ammo and to zero on ranges.

So out of interest, is there anywhere in the UK where you can pay to train exclusively with a hunting rifle set-up? And where do you find these places? Without wanting to take up some paper punching discipline and talk about ballistics with all the other target shooters.

LOL, fair enough, I've not read much about it. With the fella taking the wrong flag in with him and now asking for the right one I naively got the impression that the security forces would have the measure of him pretty quick. But you're right.

If this situation had occurred away from media and public view I can't help but think it would have been dealt with already.... The Aussies certainly have the capability. Why the politicians think the public majority would give anything but praise for taking similar action in this situation I'm not sure...

From a conservation stance, they want hammering for spring. From an efficiency stance, I wouldn't know. But there's no reason they can't be had year round. -
FDR, have you seen The Leftovers? The first season ended a month or so back, it's a bit like Lost, hopefully they don't drag it out though. I pretty much only watch catch up TV. I still watch a lot of crap but it's a guilty pleasure thing, LOL.

If the intelligence agencies consider it an effective tool in counter terrorism then I for one fully support them. I dare say much worse has gone on unofficially in the past. The only reason this has become such a big thing is because the yanks did it on a scale not seen for quite a while!

Well the pretending not to be a geek horse has f***ing bolted so why not. lol Inverse square law is the mathematical relationship between flux/count rate/radiation intensity and distance from the radioactive source. It mathematically shows that by doubling the distance from the source causes the count rate/intensity to drop by the square of that (a factor of 4!). So simply, if you are getting hit by 100 gammas per second at 1m, stepping back to 2m will reduce that count rate to 25 gammas per second.
