Recent images released by anti frackers of Blackpool... Also, these people are suspiciously similar to the people claiming the Ebola outbreak was a government conspiracy to thin the herd couple years back. Common sense, common sense!

How do you even measure that? We're doing exactly what 'the Earth' designed us to do. The Earth isn't sentient and therefore doesn't give a shit one way or another. There's no master plan, strategy or goal of the Earth's..... it just is and does. The history of the Earth is one of destruction and mass extinction so I wouldn't like to try to judge our actions based on 'her' alleged philosophy. We're the ones who have goals, feelings and morality so we're the ones who will benefit or otherwise from our existence. I think it's inevitable and frankly the most likely saviour of the Earth. I

I think there's a reasonable amount of evidence to conclude they were a result of fracking. I'm trusting the geoscientists that monitor this. I might be wrong, they might be wrong but I'm not going to pretend it's not true just because it would suit me.
-
True, but that's a straw man. It's not policed by industry. Also, I don't know why wind farms haven't reduced your bills (if that's even true, how do you know they haven't). Probably because so far it's been a heavily subsidised industry due to it being uneconomical. An uneconomical source of power will not force market prices down, it can't. "Raping the Earth"............. right, how? What is the methane saturated water in the shale formations doing that is so critical to the Earth? I'll tell ya what is going to rape the Earth, our continued energy policies. Moving more of our energ

Mate, that is ancient (possibly total BS) and the industry has gone through a shit load of technical advancement and oversight improvements since then. At the moment all the talk is on using AI to direct the lateral wells and ensure the actual fracking is more controlled than ever. There have been shit loads of case studies of this at all the big petroleum conferences the past few years. https://www.economist.com/babbage/2013/06/25/fire-water https://www.cred.org/fracking-burning-tap-water/

I agree, that's why I wrote it in inverted commas. If folks had less money then generally that's considered lower SoL, despite perhaps less respiratory disease. God you really hate 'the rich' don't you. LOL. They like material things as much as us peasants, it's a human condition not a conspiracy. LOL

I tentatively agree with the above and have done since I heard about it. HS2 will simply open up the Midlands to Londoners, it won't open up London to Midlanders. There will be a flood of high earners buying property in the midlands which will outprice locals further. But that change is coming eventually, whether it's through transport progression of comm's tech progression.
-
It would come to a standstill if we didn't embrace the change. We don't embrace the change because no c**t wants to, because it'd harm the economy, because folks couldn't have all the material things they want anymore and would have to accept a 'lower' standard of living. Fracking won't kill anyone, won't significantly threaten any wildlife, will be instrumental in improving living standards (via economic growth and reduced carbon emissions) and improve national energy security but suddenly you're rolling out the "people not profits" line.... It's all about cost-benefit. The cost of

A friend of mine enquired recently about a spot and stalk wolf hunt and was basically told "no chance, only hope is over bait". I'm quite a fan of a chap in Montana called Sterling Extreme Outdoors who does a lot of wolf calling and spot and stalk wolf hunting. They look a fantastically challenging quarry and controlling them though hunting is very necessary part of their wildlife conservation strategy.

I care too much about evidence to be a politician. People vote for feelings not facts.

Horse shit. How many of those 'earthquakes' were even noticed by anyone other than a BGS seismograph? It's damaged f**k all other than the shale formations hundreds to thousands of meters below us! Profit should never come before people eh. So we'll be banning cars as of tomorrow because they prematurely kill thousands in the UK every year will we? Shale gas ops won't kill a single person.... In fact moving our energy infrastructure to gas is a strong step towards improving our impact on the climate and will hopefully be a stepping stone towards a fully renewable, or at least carbon
-
Where do you draw the line with that attitude though? I mean, do we just not dare leave the house incase it all goes terribly wrong when crossing a road? I understand you concern but surely we proceed with anything based on educated risk/benefit assessment? The risk of 'big time' catastrophe is just negligible so it shouldn't even be mentioned. The only plausible risk really is a seismic event that we can actually feel and does a bit of damage or maybe contamination of ground water. It always feels patronising to be told your concerns aren't quite factual and simply instinctive. Doesn'

Utterly delusional, you can't even tell me how this fracking is going to f**k anything but you keep it propped up with your famous tag line "common sense". In your case a synonym for "I haven't a f***ing clue but I'm telling you I'm right". It's okay to disagree max, just admit that it's only instinctive rather than clutch at straws. Through the likes of yourself democracy is f****d. You don't care about facts, just feelings.
-
To put it in perspective again, these seismic events weren't even detectable without sensitive equipment. If the BGS hadn't been monitoring then no one would have known they happened. To me the morality of fracking affecting peoples lives is far less concerning than say car owners who pollute the air people breath. Realistically the biggest effects will probably be increased plant traffic. Environmental risks just aren't significant. Fracking potentially holds a lot of benefit for this country and so far 99% of the vocal opponents don't really understand it at all. These are test ope

It won;t effect the global price but our current gas supply has logistical costs as it's largely imported from the ME and Norway. Having a local supply will compete with those to drive down prices. That's how market work. My Aramco example was just a demonstration of that. It happens locally too. Like the North Sea operators who pay extortionate tax on those profits? Taxes that fund the socialist stuff you're so fond of like the NHS and pensuions... LOL, how is it destroying the ground below us? Exactly what 'destruction' does shale gas ops cause? You realise the shale formatio
-
I know I'm demonstrating cause and effect for you to prove how increase in supply effects price. So why's the cause significant? You love calling my intelligence when you run out of decent rebuttals don't you. Says more about you than me fella.
-
How is it like that? what is the shale doing that's so important? How are we condemning ourselves? But they're not fracturing house foundations, they're fracking shale formations deep deep below. And so yes I would be totally fine with that for no money never mind 500.
-
A local source of gas will 100% result in a drop in the price. How much depends on many other factors. I watch oil and mineral markets quite closely and the evidence for this effect is overwhelming. Most obvious was the oil oversupply a few years back that sent the price at the pump right down from like £1.45 to barely £1.
-
Why can't it be good? North sea operators pay something stupid like 80% tax on profits. I don't know what the deal with onshore rigs would be but that's a rough idea of some good. Energy independence Lower gas price Local gas industry job creation Etc

Fella this thread has f**k all to do with knocking others. Well done, you hunt and enjoy it and it keeps you fit. Part of what's great about it.
-
It appeals to me but the fact it has a 'culture' puts me off a bit. I could definitely do with the change though. You know of any crossfit gyms/sessions/clubs/societies lol around South Notts mate?
-
I get that people are concerned but I also think that the actual risk is being sensationalised. Being anti-fracking is trendy, like being vegan, anti hunting or anti trump. People want to believe the bollocks because it's popular to do, so the media print it and the people lap it up. Shale gas represents a win for this countries economy and energy security. It's too easily dismissed imo. This seismic activity wasn't even 'felt', never mind an environmental disaster. All policy decisions should be evidence based. Too many opinions being voiced from the wrong people imo.
-
I'll bet no one on this thread will have much knowledge on fracking but still feel they are knowledgeable enough to oppose it. The media f***ing love it, such an easy sell. I'm surprised the quake in New Zealand yesterday wasn't blamed on Cuadrilla! I don't know enough one way or the other to be perfectly honest but the over-reaction is plain enough to see.

I'm by no means a health freak but I'd say I'm by nature pretty healthy. Then again don't we all think that until summat happens? lol I think I've recently become a bit more health conscious. I see loads of people live shit lifestyles and then cop for it in their 50s 60s etc so I'm a bit conscious of mitigating that with small changes now. Trying to increase the plant-base of my diet and try new stuff. It's difficult because it's so easy for us (westerners) to go to processed carbs for easy calories. I'm eating a lot of stuff I've fried in my skillet which I'm not sure about health w

Plenty of discussion on here regarding competitive sport but thought I'd start one that's more personal. Basically if you put priority on your health or fitness lets talk about it. What do you do and why....... what motivates you....... what's you attitude to general health/diet....... anything new you want to try....... etc etc. Me personally, I've never been into sport but always fairly active. Been lifting 2-3 times a week for probably 5 years (on and off before that) and until about a year ago based it around big compound lifts/powerlifting. I sort of had a target of incre
