  1. didn't think shovelers were on the list http://www.basc.org.uk/en/departments/game-and-gamekeeping/game-shooting/shooting-seasons.cfm Think you will find they are it amazes me (on an open forum) how some shooters seem to have no understanding of the prey they are after - Can you shoot a shoveler on a Sunday for instance...appreciate it is a regional thing in some cases but ALL of the facts are on the basc website for ALL to read, digest and practice. Well worth a look........
  2. Guy's, im after some pigeon if anyone has any. I can collect and will pay 25p per bird. Collection on day that they are shot as i need fresh not frozen. Happy to collect at shoot or from your house. Midlands and Warwickshire Drop me a pm for my number Thanks, Belly
  3. Hi Stroller, Ive been told maturity is around 3-4 years ! ( I bloody hope so, even at 3 he still has his "maddies") To be fair he works very well, he knows exactly what to do it's more a case of getting him to do it EVERY time ! As for soft mouthed, don't think he could be softer. I have the odd issue with a pricked runner but that's about it. Once the wildfowling finishes it's some serious square bashing and training
  4. I have taken my wire hair ( no wire coat) out wildfowling a few times now, to be honest he is still only young ( for this breed 3 is still young). He retrieves and swims spot on, the bad points are the fact that he gets bored VERY quickly, this means he likes a chat , and F*** me can he chat !! He also suffers with the cold - have solved this with a neoprene coat. I am now a little more selective as to when I take him out, has to be right for both of us otherwise i'm on my own. My summary would be - pure wildfowling dog ? Most definitely not. All all rounder ? maybe. Wouldn't be without him t

  11. Oh dear, welcome to the forum jim (?). A classic first and only post I am guessing before your next name change Get the feeling you have just dropped into a subject you know nothing about at 5.00am after a couple of shandies. I guess there will be plenty of replies to your comments so before the barrage can I recommend you look at a couple of videos on youtube from BASC and Gloucestershire Wildfowlers. These show the conservation and land management that is used (and required) to ensure the return and survival of many species (not just wildfowl). Can i also recommend that you at least h
  12. Jesus, pay it or eff off ? I payed "over the odds" for a HWV for a specific line . I can afford it and I am happy, the dog is also very happy.
  13. I have a HWV from the Gonegos kennels - best dog in the beating line, picking up and to go shooting with. Got to be a contender for best "all round gun dog" (Just hope you can put up with the whining )
  14. I can speak with experience, I have a dog from Zorro one of Roy's best and can certainly vouch for the quality of breeding , care and service. My dog is 2 year old and is coming on a treat, all the "traditional" traits are there and nothing seems to have been bred out for the show ring or to turn a profit. can't go wrong mate Cheers Belly.
  15. Best Falconry dog , easy - Hungarian V. But like the other guy says "if you can't train a Brittany................"

  20. Appreciate I am leaving myself open for some ridicule here but here goes....... I have a two gun (breakdown Cabinet) Can i keep three guns in it if they fit ? Thanks, Belly
  21. Thanks for the advise, been down for two days and not had a shot ! Seen some beautiful wildlife and really enjoyed being in the West Wales countryside. Final night tonight so had a walk down the valley to the sea and then back up on the other side. Got to the top flight pond and the light was dropping, out of the corner of my eye I saw the dog put up what I first thought was a woodcock, really fast take off...all over the place so it must have been a snipe.. Instinctive shot and dropped the snipe at 25 yards (with 28g No.5 !). Really chuffed, my first shot at a Snipe and nailed it. Won't
  22. Please excuse the dumb ass questions, was prepared for a holiday of snipe, woodcock and pheasant shooting down in West Wales. Speaking to a mate he has offerd me three flight ponds on the coast with20 acres of marshy wooded ground - perfect . Christmas eve there was a flock of teal on the bottom lake, up they went and two shots later one teal in the bag. Obviously all this commotion scared everything away so I went home. It was duskish 4.30pm. This morning (8.30) there was nothing on the lakes, ( a couple of teal that I managed to scare away). Then, lots of "honking" and two canada g
