Early 80's in the Dales, walked miles as 15 year olds, slept in an old barn. We shot pigeons and collected moorhen eggs for breakfast. Even killed a Canada goose with a catty off a nest ! Took it back to the tent and cooked it over a fire lol Had trout out of a little stream that ran out of the base of a reservoir, some big rainbows over 5lb......those were the days, all pissed round the fire on sherry and one night walked 6 miles to the nearest pub.....all sh.t ourselves when a bobby turned up on his bye as we sat at the table drinking Old peculiar and eating midget gems lol......great tim

Would imagine quail roost together on the ground a lot like partridge do. Nothing will be nesting with young this time of year mate. You say they flew off so they must of been adult birds. Only quail seem to fit the bill.

Hello Bell, My offer still remains if anyone want's to see the (Nightjars) this coming season. Any genuine people can send myself a message if they would like to see this beautiful bird. A friend who we knew from our childhood days came in Nottinghamshire last year, he lives in Scotland. Also to any of the Scottish guys on this forum, do any of you know a place in Scotland called Loch Etive? I spent some wonderful times there after foxes approx 30 years ago now.Lutra, I will take you up on your kind offer re the nightjars, I will dig out one of my white handkerchiefs !!

Can't see them being yellow wagtails jeppi, not a common bird nowerdays ( were they ever common in Barnsley lol)....they are a summer migrant only and piss off to Africa in the winter.....get your bird book out and prove me wrong mate.Atb Bell 100% yellow wagtails mate as you say not here in the winter I only see them around summer time I should have said lol I will try get some photos when there back mate any thing is possible in Barnsley Look forward to the pics Jep, your a lucky man....

There's a big pied wagtail roost near my office. It's in the middle of a city, must be 100 plus come into 3 small trees on an evening. It's funny to watch the world rushing by, going to catch the train or bus and most of them are oblivious to them...

Just been listening to a Snarl spokesman on the Jeremy Vine show (radio 2)... Didn't half make me chuckle, the suspect should face the same penalties as child killers !...... The police are looking for a lead ! Lol Then Steve phones up and tells Jeremy and his audience that he's killed 30 cats that have come in his garden chasing his birds. Poor old Jeremy wasn't impressed, put him right off his cup of tea and biscuit. Jezzer then inundated by pussy lovers calling Steve all the names under the sun. Brightened my afternoon up no end lol

Why dont spaniel lads use them then ?........ive never seen one being used to work cover, risk of getting it caught up on roots, wire etc springs to mind, wouldnt want to spend half the day looking for the dog ?

Spaniels do shiver mate, doesn't mean they are cold always. I have a jack pike one for water work and to put on at the end of the day but wouldn't consider working mine in cover with one on. Spaniels eat up brambles mate, never mind putting a coat on to protect them lol.
