Interesting stuff. Like you say, you wouldn't have thought all that would be underneath your feet when outside the front door. Could do with one of them when my mrs goes off on one.

Great shots mate. There has been one wintering on our shoot this year. Got flushed out of a small bomb hole every Saturday. Most of the lads didn't have a clue what it was. Great birds to see, like big moths flopping round.

It's a funny old world, was recently in touch with one of the lads that was with us after 30 odd years and he had been back upto where we used to camp, as I had, and the fire pit was still there. In the middle of a a huge fir wood miles from anywhere.....he had just been divorced and had been clearing out his loft. Found his old Crossman pump up pistol, his came jacket and a tin of e's lol, as I said great times.....

Early 80's in the Dales, walked miles as 15 year olds, slept in an old barn. We shot pigeons and collected moorhen eggs for breakfast. Even killed a Canada goose with a catty off a nest ! Took it back to the tent and cooked it over a fire lol Had trout out of a little stream that ran out of the base of a reservoir, some big rainbows over 5lb......those were the days, all pissed round the fire on sherry and one night walked 6 miles to the nearest pub.....all sh.t ourselves when a bobby turned up on his bye as we sat at the table drinking Old peculiar and eating midget gems lol......great tim

Would imagine quail roost together on the ground a lot like partridge do. Nothing will be nesting with young this time of year mate. You say they flew off so they must of been adult birds. Only quail seem to fit the bill.

How about quail ? Doesn't explain the bigger one unless they were roosting with an odd partridge ?!!!

Hello Bell, My offer still remains if anyone want's to see the (Nightjars) this coming season. Any genuine people can send myself a message if they would like to see this beautiful bird. A friend who we knew from our childhood days came in Nottinghamshire last year, he lives in Scotland. Also to any of the Scottish guys on this forum, do any of you know a place in Scotland called Loch Etive? I spent some wonderful times there after foxes approx 30 years ago now.Lutra, I will take you up on your kind offer re the nightjars, I will dig out one of my white handkerchiefs !!
