  1. The best Hare killing Lurcher I have seen, slept on top of the owners Bed, would she have been a even better Dog if kept outside, I doubt it, plus with the amount of dogs being stolen, the house is a good idea, I worked a Beddy X whippet for nine seasons, the first three years she lived in the house, then she decided to sleep in the kennel, and stayed outside, there was no difference to her hunting ability.
  2. Whats the best op to have, Castration or Vasectomy?
  3. The Beddy gene appears to be strong, even when I bred her back to A Whippet the Pups were all rough coated.
  4. I worked a first cross, great rabbiting Dog also useful on the lamp, I also have never seen a smooth first cross.
  5. Vets must get the price from the top of their heads, phone another local Vet, he said £58.
  6. This Vasectomy lark for Ferts is new to me, what is the best age to get it done, im waiting on a Hob who was born late May?
  7. Just been quoted £46 is this about right?
  8. For the last time if it is a Whippet could you put up its breeding. and if it is a Whippet is it KC registered?
  9. You've still never stuck up the Breeding of the Whippet?

  11. My local Animal feed store only sell Chudleys, is it as good as Alpha, as Alpha appears to get a good name, Ive heard not to touch Pets At Home.
  12. Hi, Like Dog food, there are a few out there, I plan only to feed dry in hot Weather, and when I am away for a couple of days, any idea what is best dry feed? or do they all have the same ingredients?
  13. I would usually take about eight, but I was at it three days a week right threw winter with over 1000 Acres of prime rabbit country to work, to take these big numbers is Knackering, far better averaging twenty five a week, plus I was Netting, snaring, and lamping.
  14. Hi, hope this question isn't too stupid, I have kept Ferts for years, but always cut a corner out with heavy mesh, and a bucket underneath, now starting up again, have decided to try a Litter tray for the first time, the ones I have seen are about 4 inches deep I take it, that doesn't matter, they will still climb in, where's the best place to get a tray? and I take it, the Cat litter should be Wood, or paper based, not Fullers Earth, is this right? CheersCJ.
  15. a friend of mine who is now 70 was a beddie/whippet fanatic.i have watched a number of his dogs work over a 25 year period. i have also seen a number of beddie/whippets work owned by others.all these dogs could find/catch/mark rabbits.they had enough speed to catch healthy rabbits on the run.made very good ferreting dogs 1st class noses.very strong prey drive.in their elemement hunting up.very determined little dogs.prone to be a little headstrong.just plenty of patience and common sense needed on the obedience side of training as with most dogs.good vermin dogs seen them catch feather on occa
  16. I wouldnt walk it till its inoculations have had time to kick in, my whippet Pup at 15 weeks is getting about 20 mins at a time round the field thrice a day, plus the garden,I take him in the Car very short journey, to try and get him used to it, the important thing when at that age is for him or her, to meet other dogs and people, I wouldn't be bothered about road walking at 12 weeks, as has been said, just keep pumping quality grub into him.
  17. Could you ask him to get in touch through this site, cheers
  18. Used to cycle up the river Cairn most days with a 16 strand copper snare hidden in the handlebars with the grips over the top, and an old jacket with two rips down the each side of the back, lurcher running behind, would snare a salmon, have a course at a Hare then cycle back down the road with the Fish in the back of the jacket.
  19. Border Lad tried to pm you, but it wont let me? Talking about old days, do any of you Scots Lads know a lad called Shug O, Raw I think he was from Belshill or Wishaw, did a bit of digging, I sold him a Beddy X Whippet x Whippet 25 years ago, always wondered if he was still around?
  20. Jim Black nickname Blako, had bought a greyhound Pup, but it never got any bigger than a Whippet, a bitch called Nell pedigree unknown, this was the first Lurcher I had ever seen, what a hare catcher in small fields, she was killed by a car while chasing a Hare, but Jimmy had taken a litter of her, he kept the smallest, which was about the size of her Dam called Tesa, another great Hare Dog, all the Dogs at that time were lURCHER TO LURCHER MATINGS, WITH THE COLLIE X GREYHOUND BEING POPULAR WITH A COUPLE OF LADS,
  21. Great Days, I remember days out at Southerness and Brydekirk nr Annan with six Lurchers no saluki blood all on permission, no looking over your shoulder, plenty Hares.

  23. Had my first Lurcher 43 Years ago, then the questions you were asked were, Can it catch a Hare, can it Jump, catch, Kill, and carry? is it good on rabbits. Foxes were never mentioned, how times have changed.
  24. Go on to the working whippet forum, all the lads on there work their dogs, and they will keep you right.
