I phoned a farmer last night to see if he had cut any fields yet. He replied only 5 !!
Still I thought it worth a look to see if any cubs were about.
On arrival it was very still and quiet . On entering the 1st field there wasnt even a rabbit out , I wasnt very confident.
On entering the 5th and last field I spied 2 foxes , the 1st one was on the move and just disappeared but the 2nd one just sat.
Ratcherman steadied himself on a bale and that was a vixen in the bag
I havent got a CZ mate. But yep I was on about the 10 shot , if youre going after rabbits its pointless having a 5 shot as you are forever reloading , much better having a mag holding more rounds.
Mine is a Ruger , far superior quality ..
CZs do the job shooting rabbits but I think they are very rough and ready. The bolt isnt very smooth at all and they have an awful safety catch which goes backwards to fire , dont know who thought that one up.
Also the magazine sticks sharply into your back when carrying the rifle over your back.
But I suppose you only get what you pay for .
Thats a real nice 6 pointer mate . Your calling has been outstanding this year and I havent been out at all .
Im coming down to Wilts for next years rut
Do you have stalking there or were you with a guide? If you were with a guide what type of money is it? Not after anything big a cull buck would do me.
Cheers
I dont have access to that ground anymore
One of my farms has cut some Barley so we went to see if anything was on the stubbles.
There was a nice breeze to start with but then it dropped off and the night was very still and quiet.
I managed to shoot a cub but I missed a second , cant understand how as the crosshairs were solid between its front legs and everything seemed right but no contact
I was in the shower this morning when I noticed something in my belly button .
At first I thought it might be a tick but Im glad to say after getting the wife with the tweezers she removed a grass seed.
Glad it wasnt one of these horrible b*****ds
One question Fireball .
How do you transport the carcass from where it is shot to your vehicle if you cannot get the vehicle up close ?
Do you use a drag bag ??
David invited me out today to try for some pigeons .
When we arrived there was hardly a woody to be seen and it didnt look promising
But David decided to set up on a barley stubble that he had shot last week confident that we would get some shooting.
Anyway the action was very slow with not many birds about but slowly and surely the odd bird that did fly over decoyed in text book fashion and with some good shooting we managed a bag of 42.
We had to pack in at 3 pm to be back home or Im sure we would have had a few more
Thanks for the day mate , enjoyed it
