  1. This ground has a resident population of hinds and is primarily forest with a little open hill. During the rut these hinds attract more stags onto the ground therefore increasing your chances to connect. Also the roar of the stags is what fascinates a lot of stalkers to try in the rut along with watching battling stags.
  2. Just got back from a trip to my mates ground in Callender combining the roe rut with a chance of a red stag . Tuesday evening I had a 4 pointer off sticks at 133 metres . Wednesday morning I had a 6 pointer , neck shot at 140 metres off the bipod . He was thrashing a ragwort stem. Never had the chance of a red stag as only saw hinds but hopefully I will get a stag when I return in the rut Nice weather and beautiful surroundings Highlight of the trip was I saw a pine marten at a distance of only 15 metres which stood up on a log looking a

Nothing of interest except this cub had a mole , I had always read that foxes dont eat moles . This is the 2nd time I have shot foxes with moles in their mouths but strangely enough they have been in tact and not eaten in any way so I suppose it could be true . Anyone shot foxes with moles ????? 1st night ................ 2nd night ...............

  8. The phone rang last night " Can you get down the shoot, a fox has got in pen and killed 100 poults " Shoot captain wasnt happy . So me and Ratcherman had a look down with my .243. 100 poults at £3.50 each no wonder he wasnt happy We got set up near the pen overlooking a bit of open ground in front of a wheat field at around 9.15pm. After calling for about 5 mins or so Ratcherman spotted a fox to my left. I quickly shuffled round and located the fox immediately and duly dispatched it off my sticks at around 50 yds. Hope its the culprit !!!!!

  10. Ratcherman had another cub last night which we had spotted mooching on a cut silage field. He got set up on the sticks and I called it with my hand, it screamed in to about 30 yds after I stopped it with a HOY Never managed any more with the lamp but bagged 33 rabbits
  11. After speaking to a farmer the other day he told me that he had lost another duck so I decided to have a look with the lamp last night to see if I could catch the culprit. There are only 3 fields cut on this farm but I thought it was still worth a look. Ratcherman arrived at mine at 10pm and we made our way to the farm which isnt far. As we lamped the fields I did spot a couple of foxes in the gorse but they werent playing at all and scarpered quick. I was a bit disappointed but then I spied a fox near the duck house it made off in to some rushes so the only shot available w

  13. After that torrential downpour on Friday Ratcherman phoned to ask if I was having a look out and seeing as it had stopped I said Why not !! Ratcherman had his .22 as he was shooting rabbits tonight and I had my .243 in case we bumped into any foxes.............. The rabbits started to mount up but I couldnt find a fox at all until about 2am when we were packing in and I managed a dog cub which had a big cut across its bollocks I think I did him a favour !! The tally at the end of the session was 30 rabbits and 1 fox ........................a good nights shooting
