Cheers guys for the advice. It depends how the target is presented and where it can be shot. When they are presented as a crosser and they can be shot at the top segment of the arc I have no problem. Its the B***ers that you can only shoot on the drop that get me every time - it does not seem a natural swing for me to pull the gun down which is why I think I must be stopping the gun.

I seem to have a severe hang up with loopers. I can hit well over half of long crossers - last outing 9 out of 10 so my judgement of the forward allowance is about right usually for distance and speed. The problem comes with loopers. Last outing 1 out of 10 - normal for me I am shamed to admit. I have a fair idea of the amount of lead in front and below according to the arc of travel but consistently miss. I think I must be stopping the gun- what is the solution ? Any advice/guidance gratefully received.

Try him carrying a meaty bone while on a lead walking- That should start him being used to something in his mouth. When you take it off him give him a treat. After a while attach a dummy to the bone - still on a lead and a treat when you take it from him. Eventually only give him the dummy to carry again on a lead- treat when you take it off him. A little at a time until he enjoys the dummy.

welshboy454 replied to welshboy454's topic in Wildfowling
have you done any kind of shooting ?? is there any wildfowling clubs in your area ?? if so contact them they might do a young shots course in wildfowling . i know in our club the juniors have to be a SGC holder if you want to join and you have to shoot with an adult over the age of 21 until your 18 .. there is subscriptions for junior members in our club you only pay for your BASC subscriptions .... here is some links... have a look at them to see if there is any young shots courses coming up in your area.... you will have to apply for a postion on the course , they will also -
Given the nature of wildfowling how do clubs limit/control the activities of junior members ? Direct Supervision by an adult over 21 until jm is 15 years old ? What about jm over 15 ? Shotgun certificate required ? Are there any liability issues in the event of an accident ? Any views please

Many thanks - I have always shot game and I suppose developed my own style which seems to vary depending on the target. A quick snap shot at woodcock or a pull away on a long crossing pigeon/duck pheasant. I found this on another forum and it seems worth sharing . A good coach should be able to teach all techniques, give the pupil a fundamental understanding of them, and a way of analysing each clay and deciding on which technique to apply for that one. We all vary, and where one person may excel with maintained lead, another might find controlled swing through better. No coach should for

This season a shot woodcock had a tag on it's leg. We sent it away and forgot about it. The reply came back this week - It had been tagged the year before about 10 miles away ! Either that bird was a resident or it migrated to Finland/Russia and returned to almost the same spot(in global terms).

go for yellow as the blacks dont work I wish people who have an obvious lack of knowledge and experience on working dogs would keep there opinions to themselves when newcomers are asking for genuine advice, the last thing they need is to be ill advised. Dave. I think the statement was meant as a non politically correct dig !

I downloaded simulated clay shooting from http://www.ap25in25.narod.ru/index.html and ran it. Great fun - you can even re run the shot in slow motion to watch the shot pattern in relation to the target.

I have a feeder for a flight pond. You have to have it high enough so nothing can get at the spinner. The only problem occurs when some stalks etc debris clog the outlet so I riddle the feed.

You already have some good advice but what was the day like ? sunshine can make a shell decoy look unreal and they shy away. If you are lucky enough to kill a few put them out and if you have enough take the shells away. A dead pigeon is the best decoy. Once I saw a live pigeon which had sneaked in unseen trying to mate with a dead one I had out as a decoy. I laughed so much I failed to shoot it.

I think you have to look at the kind of ground you intend working. Its a bit of horses for courses. Once a year I go shooting near Oxford with my Springer. My host has a Lab. I would say that his Lab is better working there than my Springer as the cover is not so dense. When my friend comes down here to West Wales to shoot woodcock he admits his Lab cannot compete with my Springer in the thick cover. I am sure someone will advise you about the type of ground best for the HPR which seem to have their place in more open country.

It may be trying to express dominance and assert himself as pack leader. There are certain things you should do to counter it such as never allowing it to go through a door in front of you. The dog whisperer on tele is good to watch. Springer rage is more of a complete transformation from normal behaviour to a raging mad dog in a split second with no warning. The eyes glaze over and there is nobody home if you know what I mean.
