An extract from the law on this 6.14 Section 11(5) of the 1968 Act allows an individual, without holding a shot gun certificate, to borrow a shot gun from the occupier of private premises and use it on those premises in the occupier’s presence. The term “occupier” is not defined in the Firearms Acts, nor has a Court clarified its meaning. However, the Firearms Consultative Committee in their 5th Annual report recommended that the provisions of section 27 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 be adopted. This states that ‘“occupier” in relation to any land, other than the for

This is a link to a new book examining common beliefs about shotguns. It is a very interesting read ( but only the first 44 pages as an appetizer) For shotgun geeks only ! http://www.completelynovel.com/books/124016/read-online

Ask them to use a lead or not let the pup go more than 20 metres away from them. My brothers inlaws let his dog free hunt on walks with them and it is now useless- no control whatsoever.

saw first one yesterday in northumberland. They are about in numbers now. Only saw the odd one for the previous couple of weeks but the full moon has done it again. First full moon in November is the old tale for them to arrive from the continent. -
Things are looking up 10 teal were there yesterday and 16 this morning. If they keep multiplying like that in a week there should be quite a few.

I went for a long walk the other day along a public footpath near the marsh scouting for a good spot and saw about 400 geese on the marsh edge which was cropped short like a billiard table. What was attracting them ? The farmer had some xmas domestic geese grazing near and calling constantly. So get some geese ! You can eat them later.

This is the data from another forum. Particularly interesting is the IC (quarter) choke No4 shot steel pattern (In bold below as the rest relate to clay target loads). It seems to me to be slightly tighter than 3/4 choke in lead. So 2 sizes up in choke rather than the perceived wisdom of one size up. Just for fun, lets see what the pattern board can show us about the difference in performance. I'll compare #8 lead with #7 steel loads and #7 1/2 lead with #6 steel loads since those are usually what I use when trying to duplicate pellet energy. Patterns were shot from a 12-gauge Browning

Steel shot Pattern Testing
welshboy454 replied to welshboy454's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thank you very much for sharing the data/pics. It confirms how larger steel shot forms a tighter pattern than lead. Your 1/4 choke seemed closer to 3/4 than 1/2 in performance terms. as in, steel patterns tighter for a given shot charge and size through the same choke?, Yes I had read about it but it was interesting to see it in the flesh. I don't know what lead 3s or 2s look like through my gun at 35m so I couldn't comment. an interesting test nontheless This is the data from another forum. These ponds are new- dug in July. The feathers have been regular mallard and teal. I got a pleasant surprise just now when going to feed it - 7 teal were there- the first I have seen. Lets hope they spread the word.

clint not taking the piss ,but where the f**k did you ( or not,as the case may be ) learn to write english ? its f*****g hard work mat e! I have read a number of Clint's posts on here and always understood what he was saying. Although the technical english is not perfect it is about communicating and Clint is good at that with valuable info. Just felt someone should stick up for him -
I read on another forum the result of some pattern testing with steel shot. With No4 steel through an improved cylinder choke 93% were in a 30 inch circle at 30 yards- slightly better than 3/4 choke would give in lead. Anyone else pattern tested ?

I have been feeding two flight ponds for a week. Although the odd feather is seen there are no duck flighting at dusk. They must be visiting in the night. How are others faring ?

To be safe written permission would be advisable A Shot guns 6.14 Section 11(5) of the 1968 Act allows an individual, without holding a shot gun certificate, to borrow a shot gun from the occupier of private premises and use it on those premises in the occupier’s presence. The presence of the occupier is normally taken to mean within sight and earshot of the individual borrowing the firearm. The term “occupier†is not defined in the Firearms Acts, nor has a Court clarified its meaning. However, the Firearms Consultative Committee in their 5th Annual report recommended that

I cut open a steel cartridge tonight to look at the contents. The plastic cup containing the steel shot is full length of the shot part of the cartridge. Just out of curiosity I tried it for size through a skeet choke probably .004 thou. - I can tell you it is tight. In fact it deforms a bit as you push it through. Skeet will be the maximum sized choke for me from now on.

Is there a difference in a skeet gun between barrels ? Do they shoot flat ? Does the second barrel shoot lower than POA ?

A friend of mine is in a shoot where they put down 500 Bluebacks. They shot 59 ! I will tell him your plan !

A bit of success today.\result 00,0K,K0,KK,KK. Less lead than I had been giving them( Proving that a friend,an international shot, who had always been telling me "give it more" did not really know where I was shooting) and a bit closer to the point of radius if you know what I mean. Chuffed to bits.
