  1. I do, but lets be clear it's Moley's film and his expertise that makes it useful. I'm just the shop It does cover tuning in some detail. Professional Mole Trapping
  2. I have been trying to get these photos for a week. I kept seeing this little fella about 300 metres in a straight line from where the white one was spotted. Looks like a penguin to me, but evidence that there's some breeding taken place somewhere. This one seems to be quite accepted and spends him time jockeying for position with other male Blackbirds.
  3. Hello grumpy ! where have you been ?
  4. Hard to say - although there is some colour on the tail even in this one which is quite similar. There is definitely some sort of family thread going on as I saw another one yesterday - black with a white head !
  5. well either he's still alive and had a moult or the last one managed to breed. I took this today.
  6. Personally OTC I'm going to wait until the film comes out
  7. I can't quite work out the trigger mechanism - but I assume that there is a nail or something on that perch just hooking the door and holding it against the tension of the spring. Has the trap fired at all ? or just had no interest ? Try a rabbit with the guts still present and half out of the body, that often attracts crows quicker. There is also persistent rumour that crows prefer side entry traps where as magpies catch better in top entry.
  8. Hi Chris I see you were also after some bobwires. The best thing is for you to have a look at the shop on the website, decide what you want and then PM me. I can work out a combined price for you as there will usually be some P&P savings. Cheers John
  9. These are Fieldfares. We've had a flock of about 30 stripping the crab apple tree over the last few days.

  11. yep. It was from a bloody enormous dog that was walking up the path ahead of us. It's the first time I've ever seen any dog prints quite that big though. It just struck me that you see how some people would get excited when they see something like that out of context.
  12. Out walking the dog this week I spotted this huge print in the snow - photographed next to my book to give some idea of the scale.
  13. Triple Dave. I'm glad you managed to avoid the cheap imports. Genuine FENN traps will also be stamped A. FENN and the mark of the trap as shown in the attached photo. 'Springer' and 'Solway' traps are also name branded. Anything which only has 'Made in England' on may still be unapproved copies. Edited to add that I've just found a picture of a Springer too
  14. Yes they do work, certainly in relatively domestic situations. have a read here : http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=53247
  15. It's amazing how these questions often come round again. This is a discussion on the same subject including my own experiment http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=12258
  16. Drop boxes are makable http://www.thehuntin...showtopic=96170 as well as commercially available galvanised ones. Never seen one quite like that one though
  17. Fish is right - you can fine tune the whole arrangement by adding small weights to the see-saw. The problem with the see-saw is that it acts as a lever, so the further past the pivot the quarry gets, the more downwards push it with generate. So when the little mouse gets right to the very end he could be generating a relatively large amount of downward force. If you set the see-saw with too much counterweight them mousey may not tip the see-saw fully but stands a chance of getting the back end off the ground and buggering up the locking 'U'. More importantly even a rat will gener
  18. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I hope a response from DEFRA will clear it up. It just struck me as significant that everything else requires 'a tunnel suitable for the purpose.....' where as this was quite specific.
  19. Well that again is an issue I've been discussing with the manufacturers. There some product information here http://www.predatortraps.com/traps_doc200.htm As I understand it they have performed very well in test giving a very high instant kill rate. However at the moment there is no imperative to use these rather than a much cheaper traditional FENN or even Bodygrip trap. I guess this could change if legislation changes in the future but at present £25 for a DOC vs £8 for a FENN seems a hard thing to justify - hence this thread to test the water.
  20. Well that's the nub of the question to DEFRA - do they really mean tunnels provided by the manufacturer ? or will tunnels manufactured locally to that specification be OK ? Importing wooden tunnels from New Zealand is going to kill this deader than a rat caught in one. I'm afraid there's not much leeway in the price unless I can find a significantly cheaper import route.
  21. I am arranging to bring a small sample of DOC200 traps into the country from New Zealand. As many of you know the DOC series were added to the Spring Traps Approval Order in 2007 The trap shall be used only for the purpose of killing grey squirrels, rats, stoats and weasels. The trap must be set in the tunnel provided by the manufacturer of the trap for use in the UK and must be used in accordance with the instructions (if any) provided by the manufacturer. I'm also in dialogue with DEFRA about some specifics on the tunnel but I'm just trying to gauge if anyone is interested in any
