  1. Hi, mate. I've a Lightning that I use as a closeish range ratting gun, and I can't really fault it. It's pretty much the same as a Superstar (I think) so as a basic springer, you could do a lot worse. It's maybe a little 'twangy' when fired but I'm going to fit a gas-ram so that'll sort that out. A really good straight forward rifle, me thinks!
  2. Can we have a competition for being crap and can I nominate myself as the winner now, please?? Well done, Davyt63!!! All the best. Andy.
  3. Cheers You have PM If it looks the same, maybe u can drop it in the post , if you're sure its no good to you. Regards M. Cool. I'll check it against your photo on Monday but most of those Chinese scopes are fairly similar in construction. It's something I'll never use, so I'm happy to see it do someone some good! I'll give you a shout Monday. Cheers. Andy.
  4. Yeah, they're not cheap! Thanks for that, chaps. Anyone else? Cheers.
  5. Hi, mate. I've a spare Chinese 4x40 that you're welcome to. I think it's an Optic but I'm not certain as it's at a mate's gaff. If you p.m. me, I'll gladly sort that out. I won't be able to check exactly what it is 'til Monday. I've never used it. Came on a second hand gun I got a while back and I swapped it for a Simmons I had laying about. It may be fine or fooked, I don't know, but if it's any use to you let me know. Cheers.
  6. Go on! Someone other than Adeyhawk must've used them?! What do you think? Ta!!
  7. Er. Yes. It would be if you turn the zoom up higher than 4.
  8. The first number(s) is the mag, the second is the front lense size in mm. So, your 4x40 has a 4 mag and a 40mm objective lense. The 3-9x40 has a zoom magnification of between 3 and 9 and again has a 40mm lense.
  9. Probably. You need to remember that with most of the cheaper scopes that have someones company name (AGS, SMK, EB, Viking, whatever) are all made in China in pretty much the same factories. Don't be tempted by some of the 'bargins' from ebay though. So long as you stick with a real retailer, you should be ok.
  10. For the price, there's nothing wrong with them. Good value. Have a look at JSR scopes as well.
  11. They're a kind of bullet shaped pellet made from tin.
  12. It's nice to see someone who is not afraid to ask questions, and who is willing to learn from the answers/advice that is given by others - keep it up mate! Regards, Grim.
  13. That is sound advice. They can be one mean little mother fecker!! As said, re-load, shoot twice.
  14. Hello, all. Has anyone tried these? I've finaly got hold of a .20 barrel for my good-ole HW90. it 'only' took 11 months for Hull Cartridge to supply one!! If you've tried them (in any caliber), what do you think? Cheers. Andy.
  15. Out in the fields, I've always found it's best to keep it simple. I mainly use my HW90 fitted with a Walther 3-9x56. No PX adjust or anything fancy. When you're hunting you don't tend to have time to be pi**ing about with different settings, you need to be able to point your gun and shoot. It's too easy to get sucked up in the modern 'it'sgotallthebellsonsoitmustbebest!' way of thinking, but when you've only got 2 seconds to compose your shot, you've missed your chance. For what it's worth, I can't remember the last time I moved mine from 6x. Rats or rabbits.......
  16. Have you tried contacting BSA? Can you post any detailed clear pics of your gun? Airsporters can be rather random, if you've a good one, it may be worth spending a few quid on but the quality control BSA had through the 's and early 90's was crap! The main problem of the Airsporter was the alinement of the loading tap with the barrel. Try fireing a pellet into something so that you can see exactly what it looks like. If you can see the rifle marks perfectly all around the pellet after it's been fired, then it's ok. If, however, it looks as if part of it's been shaved off, it's a duffer and
  17. It also depends on what type of gun you're useing. If you've a pre-charge, you can hold the gun pretty much any way and your zero will stay the same. If you're useing a springer, you need to be more careful as they can be very sensative to the way they're held.
  18. How many pellets have you fed it? Cleaned it lately? You didn't use a metal brush / jag did you? Barrels are soft metal and scoring the rifling deforms the pellets. Do that and you will miss at long ranges. Is damaged rifling reversable? No! Are all the screws and fixings tight? (Rattle test) Barrel lock ok? You wouldn't have fired the airgun with an open barrel letting it slam shut would you? Have you tried another scope or even iron sights? Have you adjusted the trigger too finely / coarse? Many people notice a trigger feels different after a while and without thinking relax at the mome
  19. There are better options, mate. The Patriot should've been good, but missed the mark. No punn intended!!
  20. i second that .another spinger on ticket would be a old hw will do 3o plus foot pound all day long with no problems yh i agree the hw 80s will run at that all day long but they were designed to run at 18ftlb Yes, you'd be doing well to get much more from a standard . Even Venom wern't doing much more than 22 ish without it jumping out of your arms. Don't know where Target Troincs went though. Anyone?
  21. Put a gas-ram in it. They cost 40 quid from a bloke on here and work a treat! Moly grease goes on your spring and guide, only a smear though. And a VERY small amount on the piston skirt. Don't let it near the compression chamber though, or it'll combust and screw up your gun.
  22. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember an old gun-smith mate from way back telling me you need to be careful with Tulip 'cos if it's not been dried out and cured correctly, it's very prone to splitting. Like I say, I may be wrong but that might be worth looking in to. Good luck, mate!
  23. Is that the first time you've seen a which is better, '.177 or .22' thread on here? If it is it won't be the last fecker! I've heard so many folks so many times banging on as to why they prefer one over the other, but hardly ever dureing one of those 'chats' will anyone say that they are just different. I wouldn't waste my time saying witch (if any) I like best, 'cos whatever's said someone else will always come back with a 'yeah-but'! Still, it's a giggle watching folks defend their corner. Even if they don't always understand exactly what they're defending.
