  1. Great thread, with some very informed posters , making the carpers look pretty silly .imo.
  2. A judge's job is to pick out the dogs with the best conformation,,condition, and movement, maybe add in temperament, if two dogs are very close in appearance. A judge is not there to assess working ability ,because he can't. All a judge can do is choose those dogs that look as though they have the best of the qualities mentioned, thereby enabling them to do the job they were bred for. Scarks /marks should not be a factor,a dog covered with scars might be a clumsy sod ,who cuts himself on a blade of grass, scars are not medals.
  3. yer try it on the sitters always had a bit of sausage in my pocket for him worked a treat when he brought it back and try get down low if he retreives then the dog is not scared of you thinking he as done wrong atb and even if it gets away praises go a long way Don't think you should be publisizing that on a forum, even if he is" man's best friend".
  4. My dogs eat raw too ,rabbit mostly ,that has been frozen for 3 weeks, I cook the giblets up to make a gravy to pour over their dinners during the cold weather, plus two of my three do not like raw lungs livers etc.
  5. Thats the logical yardstick, imo,if it lacks a bit of speed ? Maybe a predominantly grey or Whippet.Stamina? More saluki blood. The other factor is where and what do you run?
  6. I never feed a dog before work. Eggs are a valuable source of protein, but should be lightly cooked by cracking them into hot water, and letting them stand for about a minute, until the egg whites start to turn white. This destroys most of the avidin that binds the biotin in them.Eggs will not. make a dog loose, but too many can have the opposite affect. I used to give a dog a couple of eggs after a hard days coursing, cracked in a cup with hot water on them,it assists in muscle protein rebuilding, and the hot water helps the digestion of the eggs without damaging the protein and nutritiona
  7. Sent you a pm ,but your box must be full.

  10. There speaks the voice of experience. I used to write in the EDRD,coursing articles mostly, but with the ban, that window is closed, unless someone does an "all our yesterday's "kind of thing. The ban has brought severe limitations on what can be put down on paper and published. How often can you make" took Spot up on the dales and caught 8 rabbits" sound interesting? Regular contributors have to come up with different articles week after week ,it ain't as easy as some seem to think. Some one said they enjoyed the article about famous coursing dogs,so did I , but there are flies in the oi
  11. You still got that stuffed Robin then Pat? I'm the only friend you've got.Uncle Albert .
  12. No heating in my sheds, the dogs are in a shed within a shed, with two sets of flaps for access, their beds are full of shredded paper.I have upped their food intake by 25%, to compensate for the cold ,and I add extra fat and cod liver oil to their feed.
  13. Start eating raw , unfrozen rabbits my friend, sooner or later ,you will get your wish.
  14. If you start dragging your arse along the ground ,get yourself to the vets.
  15. Well, if you don't post anymore ,we will draw our own conclusions.

  17. The Greyhound Shop in Chiswick, sells Recharge which is a good electrolyte solution for dogs ,it comes in a plastic container and is diluted as per instructions. Electrolyte solutions are specially formulted to replace what a dog loses during heavy exertion ,ie coursing[preban],a busy night's lamping etc.Sugar water and Human electrolytes will only partly compensate for what is lost.
  18. That is a tape worm cyst ,full of eggs,to render them harmless raw rabbit should be frozen for 3 weeks before being given to dogs.Personally I would cut the area out as well.
  19. Not me,Ive seen too many dogs have their feet f****d, by running on frozen plough etc, not worth it imo.
