My first boxing coach and all round local legend passed a week ago. He was a proper character and well liked by all who knew him. Kept plenty of us estate urchins out of trouble, well, for awhile at least. Anyway, local rag has done a good write up for those who like reading about such characters...R.I.P. George, I'll be there at your send off in a few weeks... Yokel http://www.suffolknews.co.uk/bury-st-edmunds/news/boxing-was-his-life-tributes-to-well-known-former-champio-9388992/

Funny enough I had the same happen to me not that long ago, over west stow way. I'd gone off piste in the woods there having a mooch, heard a rare ol' rumble like a horse race, then about ten or so came thundering past, a bit too close for comfort I don't mind admitting! Beautiful site tho... Yokel

I used to do a bit of beating on the Euston estate many moons ago. One day as we were coming through a maize strip the shout "deer" came up. Beast of a red stag was coming through at full whack, we all came out the end bar one, old fella, Ivan I think he was called had been knocked out cold , cracked a few ribs etc, proper ambulance job, and to be honest, he was lucky with that! Like a cart horse with antlers... Yokel

I think AJ walks straight through him, his experience at that level will show, heavy weight boxing, so anything could happen, but I think he'll be too much for him....j.m.o.. Yokel

In answer to the original question, Dickensian at best, plenty of trauma from that shite, and not a family member am I in contact with. But you learn from it, and my daughter's have flourished from my understanding of how not to be. As a great man once said "our revenge will be the laughter of our children"....as for pewit, greb etc, the man's a hoot! Comedy gold, stop banning him! Give him his own section... Yokel

Selling a highly strung, sporting bred dog into a pet home has always got the potential to go awry. Even if they have a steady nature around people, it's when they bump into another dog off the lead down the local park and the owner has absolutely no idea how to control the situation. Recipe for disaster...why would you want one as a pet? They can be stressful enough when kept for work alone! Yokel

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. If the only people to own bulldogs were those who worked them, I doubt the general public wouldn't ever have had a clue what they were. Patterdales were the same in the 80's/early 90's when they were pretty much only in the hands of working terrier men. Very few outside of those circles had even heard of them, now there patterpoo f.ucking crosses on pet dog sites! Yokel

Aye, I never understood why they had to bring in a new law/add XL bullies to the existing DDA when they were already covered due to type and the fact they contain A.P.B.T. in their makeup. It's almost like those in charge have no idea about the laws they passed! All apbt "type" and dogs crossed with said "type" are banned under the 91 DDA. And like you say, in the immediate aftermath of the 91 act, there were more staff crosses, bully looking mongrels and family pets taken and destroyed than there were gamebred bulldogs. But then, gamebred bulldogs in the hands of those who appreciate and are

True story... I worked on the hanger that was built to house the first Apache brought in, and on the other side of the runway we worked on the new training center for the simulator to teach the pilots. This would have been late 90's from memory. It was all over the local news that we were getting this state of the art helicopter. Hanger was completed, and they flew the first one in, only to discover someone in planning hadn't equated the hight of the radar thing on top of the rotors into the height of the hangar entrance! Turned it round and came back two weeks later when they'd sorted it
