  1. They're pretty wary birds, maybe a few strings of rookies about the place might do it.
  2. so would you say a mk3m is better then a mk3 collar ? The MK3M collar offers an advantage over the MK3 with regards to the switching, so I'll say 'yes'. There shouldn't be any difference in their locating abilities though.
  3. Lots of boots are advertised as 100% 'waterproof', 'breathable' and 'warm'. There is no way that either of these are acheived in unison. They can meet halfway and, depending on the boot, will swing one way or the other. The more waterproof they are, the less breathable - this creates sweat and you get cold feet. The more breathable they are, the less waterproof and with wet feet again, you'll get cold. Gore-tex is good but it still doesn't allow enough permeation for sweaty feet. The perfect material is yet to be discovered. Your choice of sock is just as important and you need to
  4. The MK3M 's have a magnetic switch to turn them on and off. You can either hold the receiver box up to them for 1 second or there's a little magnet on a key ring which you can use. It's a lot less fiddly when they're attached to a ferret.
  5. I think the manufacturers of Bovril ended up getting into hot water.
  6. I couldn't resist. Seriously though, Johnn Kingdom uses them for attracting badgers for his wildlife films. They have to be the 'shell-on' variety, not the salted or honey-roast ones.
  7. Yes, but they struggle to open the packets, they don't have opposable thumbs you see!
  8. The MK3M is the newest not the MK3.
  9. Great question, I've always wanted to know this myself. The Crow is definitely one of the most intelligent of all the bird species.
  10. Am I right in thinking that his other videos are of stolen cars being rashed around? The video titles have the car's name and the word 'stolie' next to it, is that a 'yoof' slang term these days?
  11. its no a rat its a stoat there stotaly different Yeah, you can weasily tell the difference.
  12. I reckon some farmers hardly talk about it because they'll end up with hoards of people traipsing on their land trying to get a glimpse.
  13. i feed mine cat biscuits once a day and they are in very well condison Cat biscuits don't have the same protein levels that a ferret requires. Ferrets have shorter digestive tracts and require higher levels of protein and fat than a cat or dog would. If you're buying cat biscuits, why not buy the proper ferret ones?
  14. Cracking pics. I'm jealous now - wish we had some snow down here in Dorset!
  15. Following on from the 'how not to ferret' post is another cretin who is bringing bad publicity to the sport. This charver has no respect for his quarry whatsoever, unnecessary suffering. Fast forward it on to 35 seconds. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh2MKuJzqX8&...feature=related
  16. Collars - CR2032 3V Lithium - Any jewellers/watchmakers, they probably do sell them in supermarkets these days. Locator box - 9V PP3 - Supermarket
  17. How do you drive a ferret crazy? Give it a circular litter tray.

    Tracking

It's something I've had an interest in since I was a kid and it's followed me into my adulthood. A walk in the woods is a different experience for someone with a bit of tracking knowledge than it is for other people. It's not all about looking for poo and footprints - that's the easy part! If it was as easy as that, everybody could do it and you certainly don't go from footstep to footstep. You want to be catching up with what you're tracking, not spending 1/2 an hour looking for the next footprint when you've already got a general direction and will pick up the trail further ahead. You le
  19. Be careful where you get them from. Some forestries use a slow acting poison on them, not sure sure what it would do to humans.
  20. Yeah, I've tried a few. Tarantula, live Crickets, raw Snails, raw fish and fish eyes. Neither tasted too bad really, you just put it to the back of your mind. On the other hand though, this is not something I'd do out in the bush. If you've really got to resort to that sort of thing in bushcraft you're doing something wrong. In my opinion, it's only something to do in an actual survival situation.

I can quite categorically say that goats definitely do exist.
  22. Hold it, hold it!! That's either a Ganoderma Fungus or a Razor Strop Fungus. It is NOT Chicken of the Woods - looks totally different. Be careful when identifying fungi/toadstools/mushrooms.

    Tracking

Seems as though it is, never mind! I'd have thought more people would have an interest in it. Not just looking for poo and footprints but proper tracking/stalking.
