  1. same story here! both of my large Hobs work their butts off but will usually end up murdering a bunny below ground. the Gills on the other hand might end up with some fur in the claws but they never seem to make the kills these bigger hobs do. one of the lads I get out with calls his Greyhound Ferrets , seen a bit about this on the Net being a myth? no doubt about it his are a fair bit smaller than mine but never heard of Greyhound ferrets until he mentioned it.....
  2. anything that would save me the job RS . after twenty years of ferreting the same hole my Hobs getting bored stiff
  3. think it was the Goverment in at the time being backed by certain animal charity organisations, this was one of their main agenda's when voted in.... for some reason a majority of folk back then was in favour of a ban , remember seeing a good few Polls with the largest percentage voting for a out right ban, there was alot of publicity against hunting back then which probably swayed the majority..... remember my daughter coming home from school telling me her teacher was horrified when she told him I have taken her Rabbiting and Pigeon shooting . what a Nanny state we've turned into...
  4. cracking vid and write up tegater . the bunny that popped out at your lads feet brought a smile to my face ....
  5. couldn't agree more... Get them Killing for a living quickly, certainly makes them grow up and get them focused....
  6. always thought it would be good to have different reps in different areas to represent THL at the game fairs. the forums a big place now with alot of members which would generate alot of interest if a pitch was made up... also would be a good excuse to a P*** up for us all and a good crack .
  7. there was probably alot of Billy Caspers about back then mate in the 70's. nearly everyone I knew back then wanted a Kestrel, it was the bird most started with and had alot of enjoyment with . I think Ken Loach got it bang on showing lads growing up roughly in that generation, I wouldn't want to be a kid these days sitting on pc and games systems all day. I had Jackdaws and all sorts when I was a lad and couldn't wait to get out and about with either a catapault, Air Rifle or just general checking out what birds was nesting in the area as a kid... Great Days never to be repeated
  8. Thanks for the input lads its much apreciated . mine big Hobs work for England but have a tendancy to muller Rabbits below ground, think I might now try a smaller type as mentioned above and see how it works out, its no fun digging when Hawking expecially when I'm on my own..... Jasp Trev My missus has had 21 years of a small one mate .....
  9. Just seen the books you put up Co Chise, there's plenty there for you to go on mate. I can't say its not handy to have somone to guide you through or a so called "Mentor" ... when I started there's wasn't another falconer in the vicinity worth his salt to listen too, it was a case of reading books from the Library as and when I could, even spent alot of evening when I was supposed to be asleep for school reading a book with a torch under the bed covers, many time I would fall asleep and had to explain to the old man why his torch was flat ... Basically none of it is rocket science mate
  10. I know this one has been done to death but whats your opinions on this. had a few conversations while out with lads Hawking and it seems its pretty divided, been out with some small Gills the other week and have to say they worked extremly well and shifted alot of Rabbits out of the Warrens. in the past all I have ever worked are Basically a tame polecat type mixed with Ferrets, some of the Hobs are pretty large and seem to make alot more kills below ground. I have a pole cat type Hob here now who nearly every outing makes a kill and either has to be dug or patiently wait until he shows hi
  11. what a fall from grace.... how the mighty has fallen with more to come with these flash restaurants, who can afford their extortinate prices these days for a meal? give me the chippy anytime ......
  12. Thats worth a thought should I now become ill cookie, I could be looking at thousands from useing one of these "No Win No Fee" clients off the box ..... Just kidding mate as you have a genuine valid point ..... Jasp
  13. If its a go'er give it a go co chise . its not a bird fresh out of a aviary that needs manning and trainning from the start, the bird has been flown before regular and Hunted which is a major benefit to you handling wise, the lad who gave it to you will also be on hand to help you out as and when needed.... best get up the Library or off Ebay mate and pick up a book Falconry Art And Practice - Emma Ford has plenty of info to give you some pointers plus there is plenty of others to help along the way, until then its best not to mess about with its weight too much until you understand its ma
  14. Anyone Going? http://www.britishcarpshow.co.uk/
  15. All above board cookie we hunt the outskirts behind the netting, all the pipeing and activity takes place behind there with me having permision to fly the surrounding land too belonging to the Farmer. thats not to say if my bird crossed the netting I won't go and retreive it. Hawked it and shot it for many years without a problem so can't see one coming up now ........

Tell me about it mate... I'm travelling all the way back to the landfill just to get some slips, I don't know if you remember the last time you was up there flying some Bunnies was bolting out of the pipes, same was happening this time too with atleast 4 - 5 coming out of one pipe and heading straight across open ground... If you still fancied picking him and coming down we can get out for a few days , having said that mate there's no gurantees down this way as it has been in the past but it would still be a good crack ... not all went to plan Bud, read the link below.... Jasp htt
  17. Many thanks for this helpfull post Chalkwarren . when you put it that way it makes alot of sense, I doubt I will ever get to the bottom of it no matter how hard I try. I have come across alot of what looks like fairly toxic materials on there in the past so its no wonder some things pay the penalty health wise ... the Gos also looks on the mend atb Jasp
  18. No problem at all PP. like I said in a previouse post I have had one down overnight and picked up the next morning with no side effects .......
  19. what a well placed ball just listen to the Leeds fans cheers aftewards ....
  20. PMSL seems funny out of all the teams that could be picked these two was matched together .... thats Liverpool winning nothing for another season .....
  21. Taken from here: http://en.wikipedia....rrhagic_disease Now that makes alot of sense Malt . there's plenty of decent bunnies we bolted but just the odd few mongey one's for some reason. no signs of dead anywhere if anything it looks better Bunny wise than it had for a long while. all internals look fine on them too, its a weired one mate and could well be RHD getting hold of some of them... pretty worrying all the same when it took my Goshawk down .....
  22. Yep parts are still very much alive Trev but for how long I don't know, they're slowly running out of room by the looks of it. Perhaps the Rabbits are being hit with Gas over a prolonged period which slowly makes them high, I know the Ferret when being worked on there are fine, even had one out for a night in the past with no side effects... if the Rabbit have taken on Gas would this still effect anything that eats them? it just seems funny the Goshawk went down hill within a hour or so of ingesting the meat....
  23. Its been backfilled time and time again and piped off trev, you can here the pipes hissing continuously as the gas is fed down them. it goes to show the amount of Methane being pumped off this place aswel as other Gases roaming about. the Landfill changes shape all the time as one is filled in another is opend. I think you and Lab have a point on this one, just strange how some Rabbits bolted out the same Warrens are ok and others are not ....
  24. Funny you say that Lab, in around the landfill the gases are being piped off where some old sites have been back filled, in the past pre ban a lad I was with refused to work his terrier on the old site because of this which makes sense. I have Ferreted the place for a good few years now but never come across Rabbits quite like this, having said that the bigger this Landfill gets the more Gas is produced ... It seemed funny how the Hawk went downhill fast after eating the Rabbit, its a mystery to me mate as I have never seen anything like it what looks like a perfectly normal Rabbit....
