  1. Having a bit of a mare here at the moment Jim. the estate have decided the back trees beside the aviaries needed trimming, for two days just before xmas I had a guy working a mini digger ripping out the runners from the blackthorn/ Brambles right beside the aviaries, I don't need to tell you how the birds took to it . Now been told they will dragging the bits away to the other end of the Garden and burning it all and finally somtime soon coming round with one of them trimmer things to trim the whole lot. it don't just rain it pours mate cheers Tony
  2. Used the same old bag for years until I traded her in for a younger model . seriously... the wife got me a Doug Pineo vest a while back, don't get me wrong its good but have to say I still love the old bag. I don't like the way the vest slips off my shoulders when running and also if I want to take it off for some reason like to leash the bird too when feeding up its a load of hassle. I still get the old bag out now and again but have to use the vest due to it being a present
  3. Nice result Milo to see xmas in . would be nice to see the odd bunny around here at the moment without having to ferret them out,,, Jasp
  4. well done Jim sounds like she is on song . think yourself lucky it was only your ear and wasn't your face again mate, she's one foisty bird like a woman on permanent wrong week . Not been out with my male since the last outing to kings lynn, since then he nailed another easy Magpie but thats about it... he's getting 10 - 15 recalls 50 yds across the garden to keep some element of fitness, he blasts back to his bow from the fist and on his way back before I'm ready but then again as you know he has always prided himself with the fist since I have flown him and flys to anyone with the same
  5. anyone got their Hams cooking for xmas? just got mine on following the advice given to me above a good few years ago. I followed the 20 mins per pound advice every year since and its always been perfect ...........
  6. Hi Jasper Yes, mine is a Mk1 Airsporter.. I have a BSA Cadet but someone has refinished the stock and removed the winged BSA Jasper- your two look as though they would refurb beautifully Cheers, John Hello John I'm seriously enviouse of your guns, I would go as far as to say i have a fetish about the old BSA guns . seriously! they look stunning. its great to see these old guns preserved and on show again , its a shame you wasn't closer as I would love to see them and fancy taking on a Old Mercury again somtime in the future. the C
  7. Hello Davy here's a BSA Cadet and Major. the one on the right of Johns pictures has a tap to load the pellet which makes it a underlever, looks like a Airsporter MK1 - 2 to me .. Jasp

  9. I have had plenty of success on well stocked land without dogs, I know you also have with the big fella . dogs can be a real asset but certainly not a essential when Hawking. at the moment the land I'm flying is bordering on useless in this area but in the past I had some pretty marked success walking up or ferreting. Must get matey on some Bunny's soon bud, I'll be flying him late in the season to make sure, my track record is I have not had a male refuse them yet so I'm not starting now. also will have Millet down somtime after xmas to get him on a few ....
  10. Glad you like the name John, not many Jaspers about these days some nice MK1's there John, is there a Club amongst them? I was offered a mint Mercury S a few years ago in .22 calibre, beleive it or not it was up for £ which was roughly the price I payed for mine brand new back in - 81 but it was in .22. my old one n the picture above is a .177 which I would have loved to have had but he was asking £250 for it . it would have been nice to of handed a gun I had as a lad back down to my lad but I wasn't paying that sort of money. on the subject of the RB2! I think this is roughly when BSA s
  11. I have a old book here on the training of Cormarants, I know its a different thing all together but they sound like they are definitely pot fillers. I could just see me with a few trainned cormarants in a little boat on one of the prime Carp lakes in the area, Bet they would love me
  12. Hello Eddy sounds like one of the early one's, definitley worth doing up mate. they're a real classic in their own right, took more head of quarry with a .177 Mercury that any other gun to this day ... Jasp
  13. Hello John What a lovely collection of Mercury's and the Airsporter S . I had one of the first Airsporter S's in the late 70's earley 's, I even picked up another in the late 's called a Airsporter RB2 which had a slightly different cocking lever catch which was disapointingly made of plastic, this gun had a rounded forend which looked nice and neat but it wasn't built to the standard as the first "S" I had. I also had a Mercury S when I was a lad which was offered back to me a few years ago as the guy still kept it, the problem was he wanted big bucks for it and I wasn't prepared to p

    Co-mentor

I'll second that, a lad in this area picked up a female Harris bred from a opend fronted enclosure! it now screams for England and has done virtually from the first manning stages. having said that I did three this year totaly enclosed with one that fired up calling, the other two and totaly silent, they're all out of the same aviary with two going on the same day. I think the one that fired up screaming picked it up when he was cut down on weight in full view of a mature female in a open front flight infront of him, it wasn't long before the pair of them started talking to each other........

    Bad Weather..

that camera of yours takes some stunning shots.... He liked them gamebirds mate . it always seems second nature to a male Gos to chase game, they find them pretty hard to resist virtually from the word go. I have no doubt he will do a Rabbit this year when he is shown a consistant few put up in front of him . in the past all the males I have had not one up until now has refused Rabbits, I even had a 3/4 German male that took them flying around 1lb 4, at the moment this boy flying a good few onces than this is at a loss what the game is. He needs to see a few more pushed out infront of hi

totally agree . falconry is about getting out and hunting a bird you enjoy flying, its not a race to see who has the fastest or best bird or who has the Biggest Willy.... Enjoy and have some fun ......

    Bad Weather..

thats a bit strong from a guy who put a post up complaining about the swearing and argueing in the quote from another thread below . you don't have to harp onto me about fittness, trust me pal I have seen many fit hawks from alot of different species. there's a marked difference in a hawk thats already on the wing taking a Pheasant than one from a standing start straight off the fist. seen a decent male Harris in the past have a cock bird virtually flushed underneath him! he missed with the first effort when he had the advantage but in a level tail chase he wasn't in the same leagure. I'll gi

Spot on Lee . went out with some lads last sunday who was flying three harris's between them, they all tacked onto the wind lovely and seemed to be enjoying themselves. the main problem was quarry which was very thin on the ground but things will change soon hopefully... Jasp

    Bad Weather..

good job we have slow pheasants like some of the hill billy folk from here in the Norfolk area . even then in the past I have had to work hard to negotiate a decent slip for a Gos before I took a cock bird out of the air which was usually well in excess of 150 yards expecially this time of the year. most of the Pheasants I have taken and seen midaired have been sitting on their wings before the put in and taken, others have been mugged on the way up off the floor on the rise off the fist or young birds flushed that put in earley and taken in the air, then I suppose anyone could also reflus

    Bad Weather..

Tell me about it Milo, a few of us went out last sunday and it was blowing a hooly! certainly not the best time to get out but the day was arranged so off we went. Must say the Harris's that belong to the lads I was out with performed well in the wind and tacked onto it perfect. my other problem in this area is lack of quarry which is gutting when the birds needs to be killing regular.....
  23. You could always try your hand to Captive Breed some Falcons for the middle east... certain birds and blood lines will always be wanted by them... they value their prize birds highly
  24. we'll get out and about before the end of season Bud . the wind on there was blowing a Hooly lifting the birds off the fist and generaly unsettling expecially with the Goshawk. the Harris was a credit and took full advantage of the lift around the pits tacking onto the wind effortless. Its annoying as many times I could walk that land and gurrantee slip after slip just walking them up but me and WILL went for a walk and probably saw two at the most near cover, Ferreting was the only option today but still not as productive as in the past. the Gos wasn't switched on today mate, he was a
  25. Good to see you all again, shame about the wind but the Harris's tacked onto it no problem! also good to see all of them getting on while loose together . WTF has happend to all the Rabbits on that site is beyond me? think the lads have been Lamping them with the Rimmy's.... Gave the Gos some Lettuce and Cabbage to feed him up when I got home , I have a nice juicy carrot and Cauliflower for him tomorrow to chase .... Jasp
