Very sorry to hear it mad al. Its a freak disease, a S. African doctor friend of my mums was diagnosed with a brain tumour a few months back. A year to live with treatment. I mean how can you prevent this bloody disease? Maybe positive/negative energy may have something to do with it, I don't know, who knows. Good luck mate.

Um....looks like a poncier version of Hide from That 70's Show.

A friend of my neighbours runs a full blue greyhound, I think he's an ex-track dog, quite small. As far as I know he's a good dog. Don't know much about him to be honest. I am considering giving an ex-track dog a home as a worker when I get the garden and kennel sorted. I don't plan on taking huge amounts, just a rabbit or 2 now and again, once a week maybe. Its that or buy a lurcher, if I can get one for a good price. Anyone know where I could get one? In Ireland - south east, or would travel to Dublin. Also any pointers for choosing a greyhound for working?

Thats me most nights with my current dog mate!

Would you be willing to help bring back the rabbits?
Back Stabbath replied to a topic in General Talk
I think its a great idea countryboyo like I've said before, and I wish you the best of luck with it. We need to give something back and not just take all the time. The land can hold a lot more rabbits than there are right now. Its just a shame it has to come to rearing and releasing them. I would be rearing and releasing if I had my own house and/or land, but seeing as how I'm still living with the folks who would never allow it, with a relatively small back garden (which is being renovated after an extention and is literally just all sludgy muck, clay soil...), and a rabbit keen Doberman -
I think they are considered native, since they were in Britain years ago and just got extinct. They have been re-introduced (or in many cases, re-introduced themselves from farms!)

Food From the Wild by Ian Burrows is a good one. It also has all the other edible plants, berries, seaweed etc., and serving suggestion type things.

Haha bloody brilliant! Its about time too. Its only a matter of time before the IKC copy Britain...

No, but I recently took in a roller I think it was. Beautiful bird. White with grey patches on the wings. Everybody said it was the most beautiful pigeon they'd seen. It fell out of the sky onto a roof and rolled into the gutter while I was walking home from school. The poor thing couldn't move. I got a ladder and came back for it. Couldn't even stand in the cage and its droppings were just water and were foul smelling. Kept him by the heater and I gave it salt and sugar in water with a syringe, then found some Critical Care Formula I had from a few years back for my other birds. Syringed him

Some fools on a rescue forum I joined ages ago are arguing about how humane lamping is. They have never even witnessed it. I mean how can you argue that shooting a rabbit with an airgun is not humane? Such idiots. I don't agree with the humanness of some types of hunting, but I don't start bloody ranting about it. Heres a link if anyone wants to have a look! (I'm orined btw) http://petsireland.invisionzone.com/index....mp;#entry535953 I encourage you to "educate" these 'holier than thou's. lol

As long as they're both finches? I have never kept British/Irish birds. Just canaries, budgies, cockatiels, etc., a pair of weavers once and a pigeon.

Yeah whippeter its true about the RSPCA. I didn't know that so many people thought they had legal power. They can only tell the police and let them deal with whatever it is. Cool boat by the way!!
-
Wow, cool gold/bull cross. Didn't know you could cross them.

Go to leerburg.com and have a look, you should find some really good books there.

Hi, I'm just wondering about getting an air rifle for rabbits and pigeons. I'm in Ireland and was just wondering if I need a license and whats the procedure? What kind of a one would I need? It would have to be not to expensive. My uncle would let me shoot on his land. I appreciate any info you's could give me. Cheers

I'd love to have a place like that and all those birds!

Hey, not about this topic, but whats with the big "[bANNED TEXT]" that keeps coming up in peoples posts?? Its really starting to annoy me! I hope its not just my computer, lol

What skycat said is spot on. Especially about the working line bit, wouldn't bother with anything other than a good working line GSD or cross. Show lines are crippled.

Rabbiting season ?
Back Stabbath replied to Tariff2's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Well said man. Theres nothing wrong with giving something back. I say enjoy the sport but respect the quarry and give them a chance to breed more. If people dont then there will just be more bans and stricter laws. There are no rabbits where i am either and now I am willing to give something back after i have had years of enjoyment in the past flushing and lamping in the area. Dont let the ignorent all take and no give fellas on this forum get to you Cheers mate Glad to see theres some good people here. -
Sounds like you're gonna have some very healthy, happy and tasty chickens there m.hubbard!!

Pup has got constant runs
Back Stabbath replied to Rory4's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Some good advice. Don't starve a pup for any 24 hours. Only an adult dog should be fasted. Some lightly cooked chicken in a broth is a good idea, with a little of the biscuits so as not to be a major change for the first day. Decrease the amount of biscuits and replace with chicken over about 2/3 days. This is what I would do. Its more than likely the bad quality food thats giving him the runs. After you've done the switch to chicken, get him onto a diet of raw meat, grated carrots, cooked potato, and the odd apple. This will ensure a healthy pup. Get rid of the biscuits altogether, -
electric collar
Back Stabbath replied to claybusers al's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Never ever correct the dog when he comes back to you. Firstly, you really really need to read up about the theory behind using an e-collar. They are very useful, but in the wrong hands or with bad advice they can be a disaster. It could even make the dog more riled and go for the sheep if you dont do it properly. I strongly recommend you go to leerburg.com and read up on the articles for e-collar training and any others you may find useful. Its a seriously good site, the best for e-collar training etc. The instructions that come with the collars are not great, leerburg.com has better
