  1. Raw eggs!? And fish? Scraps? How ridiculous!! I suppose they recommend fedding a dog on bloody pedigree chum or Hills science diet which make your dog a hell of a lot sicker than eggs! "Not nutritionally balanced" They want to make the canine race as disease ridden as the human one! How horribly politically correct! (Just to be clear, I'm not havin a go at you Joe Kelly) I have actually heard of the grape/raisin one. Found it on the net just after I gave one of my dogs about 20 of them, lol. With no ill effects might I add. Like -Hippychick- said, some dogs are affected, some a
  2. Hmm... Well if it was my dog I'd probably get him into condition by feeding him small meals of raw chicken, gently cooked mashed peas/carrots, and I'd get a few vitamin mineral tablets for him for now. Let him sleep. Consider switching to a BARF diet when he's better if you don't already feed him on it. Good luck!
  3. Do you's eat all the rabbits?
  4. He's lovely. Blue is my favorite colour on most dogs
  5. Bones and raw food is absolutely the best thing you can give your dog!! Nearly everything else is what we in the human world would call junk food. Raw food has necessary enzymes for digestion and proper assimilation. Good on you for actually researching what to feed your dog! I have found that my dogs have little or no smell when fed a raw diet. My Dobermans coat is very shiny and I'm almost sure we wont have any problems such as hip dysplasia because I've fed him well since he was a young pup. I know no dog that will turn their nose up at a BARF diet. My doberman has eaten a who
  6. Hello, I can't really give you advice on training him for hunting as my experience is very limited there, but his basic obedience must be very good if you want to work him, especially his recall. Get started on it straight away. I highly recommend Leerburg.com for that. You can read their articles or buy a DVD (which is very good) Come to think of it, they also have a dvd on how to raise a working dog so you may find that very useful. I really trust this guy's advice, you cant go wrong with his website. (lol, I should be getting paid by them, all the advertising I give them!) Good l
  7. OMG, thats not on.... If you prey on a rabbit you expect it to fight back. Ive no objection to hunting rabbits properly where they're plentiful, but punching one is just disgusting even if it did bite him. What an idiot. I've had a hamster hangin off me finger, I hate them! Oh and a rook chewing the finger off me, found one with a broken wing and I was carrying him home years ago, haha
  8. The dog dosn't respect your leadership and absolutely knows he can take advantage of you when he's off lead. A dog that refuses to come back is my most hated problem. Its very easy to correct the dog for not following a command when you have him on lead, off lead is a different story, so he must not ever be in a situation where you are not in control until he learns that your commands are not optional and that he con't run after whatever he likes. Keep him on lead all the time, until he's proof-trained. The easiest and most effective, fool-proof way to get off lead obediance when the d
  9. Hi I'm new here I don't know a great deal about hunting, but I know a lot about dogs. I'd love to show you how to handle your dog, but unfortunately I'm in Ireland at the moment. (Going to Hull next year for college) I would agree with the reccommendation of a Labrador as a first working dog. I would definitely stay away from the German and Euro breeds! (Weimaraner, etc.) They can be a lot harder to train. There are exceptions to all rules of course, but as a first time trainer you don't want a dog thats going to give you hassle and challenge you on everything. Don't be tempted by ho
