  1. Excellent diet mate, a lot better than what most dogs get. Beef mince is fine yeah. Chicken and rabbit is easier to digest though. I would leave the egg raw though, its a lot better. If you're worried about bacteria don't be, dogs are fine with it. It has more nutrients raw. I would probably leave out the goats milk or youghurt however, you don't want too much dairy. I'd say leave out the yoghurt and keep the goats milk. Look at the ingredients of the Wagg. If it says "contains EU permitted preservatives, cours and antoxidants", or BHA and BHT, or any E numbers, leave it out. Its
  2. Oh my god, they're unbelievable them vets. Would you not just change it yourself?
  3. Any dilution of pigment can cause hearing and sight problems unfortunately.
  4. I'd agree that its probably because she dosn't like it splashing on her. Put straw down away from the bed and see if that helps. Good idea about the ceiling height, tote!
  5. Frogs! My dobe is a frog dog, he goes mental after them and searching for them! lol. Theres always loads in the wet fields in the evening in spawning season. I try to restrain him though, I like frogs.
  6. Ah, cute. I'd love to have a merl dog.
  7. I do agree. Its gotten out of hand, but in the end its down to the breeders. Good breeders like Ed Frawley for example who breeds working GSD's and Malinois will always have good healthy dogs. Show breeders have really f*cked up a lot of dogs. Its the inside dealing, nepotism and snobbery that really gets to me. What was a Springer Spaniel or German Shepherd bred to do? Work! Not to stand there and look pretty. No way would I ever get a show bred GSD. You should see the American bred Springer Spaniels, oh my god...they are so perfect. I bet they can't work for sh*t. American bred
  8. Its true that some Travellers wouldn't steal a dog. Not all of them are too bad, I went to school with some and they were alright, but still I wouldn't call them good, especially not to their animals. It depends what area they are from also. The families that are "concentrated", tend to be worse than those travellers from families that have some settled people in their lineage. (lol, I sound like I'm talking about breeding dogs! haha) My 2nd cousin is a quarter knacker, she dosn't know it though, she's about 7. Her dad was half knacker, apparantly he's a git. But anyway, good luck findin
  9. Wow, what a strange incident mate. Some of the symptoms actually sound like vaccinosis. Usually with those kind of severe symptoms though it would be fatal if it was vaccinosis.
  10. Hi, mate. Rabbits and pigeons eh? They're my quarry too!
  11. In Ireland I'd suspect knackers to be a high proportion of the people taking them. A dire fate for a dog to go to them. (Had one try to sell me a "Nintendo Wii" today, it was actually a Chinese "MiWi". I even said it to him and he said no way its the real deal, he wouldn't do that to me - haha, as if!)
  12. Well said jackard. My uncle used to get dogs from the pound, spend time training them and use them for working, and fine dogs they were. Most lurchers/greys/whippets with a prey drive are good workers, its just down to the owner to mould them and bring out their full potential. Its not as if lurchers are even what I would call 'hard' dogs. Its not just a lurcher problem though, why do we see so many Labs, Rotties etc. in pounds and rescues? Cos people don't bother to put time into raising and training them properly and just give up when they don't turn out right.
  13. Are those names official? Would be careful about spreading names if you're not 100% sure that its actually them.
  14. Haha, exactly mate! I think there are some much better rescues in Britain, breed specific, etc. and there are definitely more of them... Even if the dog goes to a working home where its in a shed/kennels a lot, its better than being in kennels with no work!
  15. Yeah amte you're right, earlier the better. Rabbit, chicken etc. are easy to digest. Wild meat is the best. I wouldn't give small bones yet. Dosn't need to be mince, just small chunks. Offal is necessary as well. Give some grated carrot too for extra nutrition, fibre and bulk.
  16. I wouldn't give her too much carbs (just what she gets from the dry food) as they will make her gain weight but she gets all the glucose she needs from meat and fat. She'll store the goodness of the meat you give her and her body will use the carbs. Too much carbs will make her gassy and give skin complaints imo. Give her lots of meat and offal. Raw eggs too. I don't like milk for dogs. Remember its better to keep a dog slightly underweight. But sinse she's a pup I'd keep her at normal weight. Don't ooverfeed though!
  17. This is what they had to say about e-collars. http://petsireland.invisionzone.com/index....mp;#entry531912 Just because they would f*ck up a dog if they tried to use one, they think they are "turture" devices....this forum makes me sick. So I pm'd the person looking for advice with a huge comprehensive message about how to train her dog, with or without the e-collar and she was really appreciative. I was actually banned before from that forum for suggesting the use of prong collars and e-collars for certain dogs. Not only that but some of my posts in the argument were deleted so that
  18. Pretty sure the 1st one is fake, that horse looks like an Arab, so no way. The shadows don't look quite right either. I think the second one is real, think I read about it somewhere. Could be wrong though.
  19. If anyone knows of people getting rid of retired racers or lurchers who work/with potential to work, I'd be interested. I know I can go through the rescue option, but God forbid you mention you want the dog to work, your name would be sent to every rescue in the country for cruelty to animals! Plus I don't like their attitude, or homechecks. Dog would be living outside a lot, but would be allowed in. Would have another dog for company outside. Gettin the garden sorted and stones put down, ts a mucky mess right now, so wouldn't be able to get a dog for a few weeks. (probably longer,
  20. Might never change. She's a cross not a purebred. Some pups in that litter could end up with smooth coats, some with rogh, some with in between coats. She will grow out of her puppy coat though and will get a harsher coat, but it could be rough or smooth. Depends on what coat type is dominant, usually the curly coat is, but you can't tell.
