If you could pass one law, What would it be ?
tsteve9999 replied to whippeter69's topic in General Talk
I wouldn't invent one but would bring back the law that said anyone on a town council had to have run a successful business for so many years. Perhaps then my council tax would be used in a reasonable manner and not for every crackpot idea some treehugger in an office can think up. Tom -
shotgun selling process
tsteve9999 replied to adamthomas64's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I'm sure the FAO told me I would never have to write on my certificate again, doesn't the other guy fill in your form and you his? -
I had the same problem. If you look at the bottom of the page there is a box which says either ip board, thl 2010, or clean cut 2010, I have set mine to ip board and it's ok now. Hope this helps, Tom.

Thanks mate, I thought that would be the answer but wasn't certain. On a similar vein, how many cartridges would I expect to be able to fire before there was a problem of some sort?

As a newcomer to shotguns and shooting in general, could anyone give me an idea if my gun needs to be maintained by a shop on a regular basis? I've bought a new Lanber and anticipate shooting around 3000 or so cartridges a year, so is basic cleaning all that will be needed or would it benefit going into a shop for more thorough examination at certain intervals? Thanks, Tom.

No I didn't, for some strange reason I fondly imagined that there would be someone on the council with common sense. It's only a day and a halfs work and I'm working for a managment company that I've worked for for 20 odd years, so no price has been given they trust me to be fair, but that doesn't mean that the council should be able to rob them blind.

I went today to carry out some building work for a shop situated fairly near the town centre today. There are about 5 one hour stay parking bays situated near the shop and a long stay car park about 300 yards away. Other than that it is wall to wall double yellow lines, so I phoned parking services to try and get them to allow me to park in one of the bays for the time it took to do the work, because since the council started getting fees from fines there seems to be a warden along every road every 5 mins or so. I was told by an "official" that I could park there for the time it took to unloa

I had this happen on Christmas Eve with my dog, he caught the very tip in the door and it was the tinyest of cuts. I couldn't believe the blood, it was sprayed over every wall in the house. We managed to get a few plasters over it and it healed up but it took a week before he stopped spraying everything, mainly because we had so many visitors over the holiday and his tail never stopped wagging.

Bedlington Greyhound X Bull Greyhound
tsteve9999 replied to luke.'s topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
As of yet he's had nowt, but I'm hoping to try him on the lamp in the next couple of weeks. I wanted him just as a rabbiting dog but judging from his reaction to seeing other things I think he may have other ideas -

Heres my dog, beddy whippet grey x bull whippet grey, he's 11 months old and 24-25" tts. -
Did anyone else connect elastic bands together to make a catapult that fitted over 2 pegs and fire netting staples at each other? We had small wars on the local waste ground, how someones wasn't blinded I'll never know. It got to the stage round our way where local shopkeepers refused to sell them to us.

Mine get both, cooked leftovers from the Sunday roast or any other dinner, and the odd raw carrot or a few cabbage leaves chopped up, whatever I can nick while the wifes back is turned. I would guess raw is best for them but they seem to eat whatever is put in front of them and don't look bad on it. Tom

Depends on how much is to him I think. If he's got a part time job and is earning 30-40 quid a week, then yes take it all as a lesson. If he has saved it over a long time I personally would take a part not all, because he's already showing more responsibility than most adults simply by saving. Kids, especially boys, need to learn from their mistakes and as long as he does learn it will be a good lesson, but parents should show compassion. You'll be a bigger person in his eyes if you show him some in my opinion. Tom

Reading this thread has made my day. I'm a first time lurcher owner and have been sorely tempted to run my dog for a couple of months now (he's 11 months old), but the only land I had is heavily lamped and the rabbits very wary. I've now got permission to run him on a farm with quite a few, problem is it's a sheep farm and I can't trust him at the moment, so I'm going to have to get him trained to them as he has not been around sheep at all. Because this is my first working dog it's taken me much longer than it would for most on here to get the basics right but in the last few weeks he's imp

I'll believe it when I see it with my own eyes. Just read an article about how some muslims charged with making offensive comments refused to stand when the judge came into the courtroom because they "only stood for Allah" or some such sh*t. They were then allowed to to be bought in after the judge had sat down, in other words did as they liked. Tom

Have you got gutters fitted? If rains pouring off the roof down the wall it will stay wet even with waterproofed render.

new permission and beating! result!!
tsteve9999 replied to adamthomas64's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
Bloody hell, you'll have most of Leicester to shoot in by the time you're finished! You've got to be at least part Irish to be blessed with that gift of the gab. Well done mate, keep at it, Tom. -
Harold had walked his men 200 miles to defeat the vikings at Stamford Bridge, then 200 back to take on William, so I think it's fair to say they were a touch tired. Even then the English only lost because they broke their shield wall to chase the French cavalry who were beginning a long history of successful retreating.

would you reccomend a shock collar??
tsteve9999 replied to fraggle's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Thanks for that mate, I don't think I was anxious and to be honest while he was on the long lead all he did was prick up his ears in interest when he saw them in the distance, which I corrected. He's 10 months old now and still has puppy moments, so my worry is when I finally do let him off lead he'll take off and ignore me. If the sheep are 200 yards away there will be nothing I can do whereas if I could get him in a pen with some I could reach him easily. I'm going to take him regularly and will do as you say and get as close as possible, the problem is the farm is a fair way away from m -

tsteve9999 replied to fraggle's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I'm in the same situation at the moment, I have a farm to run my pup on but is a sheep farm, I took him a week or so ago on a long lead but it was not really successful, the problem being he knows he's on a lead and barely looked at them. He was fine on that but when I loosed him in an empty field and sheep in the next field ran he ran to the fence, and would have chased given the chance. Does anyone have any tips? I found it was impossible to get close enough to them to be able to correct him properly. As we walked the sheep just ran to the opposite end of the field, so he was never close -
Sounds good, who are you with??? It's just my local vet, they are not a nationwide company. So far I've been very pleased with them, I suppose if ever something major comes up will be the time I know if it's good or not. Tom

My vet has their own policy, around 150.00 each per year. This plan includes all jabs, neutering if wanted, and no excess, but excludes costs of sending samples to specialist labs, they are extra. My 2 have been there 4 times between them so far this year for minor things, had there boosters and the terrier has been neutered, so it's been fairly good so far. Tom

Vhile fishing a few years ago I watched a stoat go through a large warren on the opposite bank. He went in one then a few seconds later came back out at full pelt with a bloody huge rabbit chasing him. It ran him for a few yards then turned round and went back as if it was a normal thing to do, I must admit I was amazed. Tom
