  1. At the risk of getting banned, can I ask you to define what you class as coursing? As for slagging the fens, i can't speak for everyone but it's the style of running that I slag. I know the fen guys thinks it's great watching a hare towing a dog about for 6,7,8 minutes but it isn't everyones cup of tea. I reckon the fen coursers enjoy it because it gets results, no other reason. It certainly can't be for the entertainment value cos I would rather watch caravans getting towed down the m74 you certainly have a way with words
  2. when you say a touch of saluki, how much was it and did it make a difference stamina wise, im asking as i have a pup which is the same way its was about 1/8 i think at the most, he could could go on a bit and he had a very quick recovery time but i think he threw more to the greyhound side (having more greyhond in make up) as he was all about speed and where i tend to run is smallish fields thanks for reply,my pup is 8 months old and he has 1 eaighth saluki in himp when he can he runs an runs and i havent tired him out yet, he may lay down for a few seconds but thats it hes charged back

  8. a mate of mine had a greyhound about 20 years ago, i have seen a lot quite a lot of running dogs but this bitch is still mentioned in conversation when discussing lurchers, very brave, very obiedient, and very clever, cought most things if it was a possible catch and made all lurchers that were out look like also rans, feet were never a prob and the 3/4 grey / whip put over her also had good feet and produced as far as the 1 i no of a good sound pup
  9. it wont be long till you will be trying to stop it chasing every rabbit it sees in the distance, next stage in development, one extreme to the other
  10. basically a greyhound reduced in size with better feet coat and stamina, but with the conformation of a grey thats a bit more robust than the average grew with hopefully more wind, no good on the fens perhaps but potentially a good alrounder on the average to large size fields

  17. i never use a single skin or tennis ball or whatever i want the mutt to retrieve use 2 , that way the possessive element of its instinct wont kick in, he wants the skin and the grub, and thats the way the pups nature is, ,,throw 1 as soon as he lifts it get him excited bout the other one, that way hopefully he'll run up to you with the other item in his mouth, tease him for a few seconds with the second one , he will drop the first one , then throw the second , repeat this over weeks a little at a time, until you become the focus of attention not the skin ,,you will end up with a fast ret
  18. Couple of ways mate, take a step back as it comes in before it puts the dummy down, also teach it to hold the dummy on command, place the dummy into its mouth and hold it shut, saying hold, keep doing this til the penny drops, and it carries on command of hold, then start retrieving again, as it approaches give the command hold, let it stand holding the dummy, then give your command for release, and heaps loads of praise, make a real fuss, do this 3-4 times a day. thanks, should i let it run of and play with it or just get it to hold it then take it back
