  14. Because you will have done the correct amount of exercise and conditioning to get it that way. No animal alive can be fit for hard work unless it has been conditioned. Working dogs are the equivalent of human athletes: they need to train hard to achieve the right level of fitness or they'll damage muscles, lungs, heart, toes etc if they are run unfit. Dogs should have a minimum of an hour's exercise every day in my opinion, and part of that exercise should be steady trotting, not slow walking, but trotting. A few good gallops in between and the dog is half way to fitness. People who take

  18. been doing well with my pup untill recently, 10 month old sit, stay, lie, heal, jump and retrieve to a decent standerd , he has chased rabbits for about a month now but never been close, i dont want him to but they are everywhere so it happens, the other dogs dont bother terriers and older lurcher, anyway mixi has arrived and he cought 1 on friday the dogs chased him but he ran off so i sent him in as a retrieve with the terriers wasnt going to happen, left the other dogs in field and took bunny off him, the mrs took them this morning and yes it happend again only she didnt no what to do so no
  19. get a lurcher that marks fox and fox only
  20. i had a kelly bred bedlington whipit/greyhound, exellent bitch ferreting, lamping, mouching, and working with terriers when foxing, bad points her heart was to big,, she didnt have as much stamina as i would have liked, always getting injured lamping when young, my mrs called it limping, when a bit older used her head more. very clever bitch, in fact i want another one when i think of all the stuff we had, she lived untill 14 years of age.
  21. had a dog start well then started coming away about 14 months old, that was at the end of my season, i kept him and used him following season when he was about 2 and he always stayed unless a bolt , i think some may seem ready but are not so sometimes giving them more time works
  22. i was told to feed a large dog pup food which had lower protein content that slowed down growth rate, it worked
  23. dont work him till its cooler again, if something gets up with stamina it could kill him
