I have kept birds in box cages before, goldfinch , Siskin greenfinch and canaries, had a little success with breeding them, Siskin mules and canary.now I have an avery which is hexagonal in shape, about six foot across both ways and high also, I would like to pup british in but am unsure how many and compatable , maybe canary hens if better option, any advice appreciated.

  13. i noticed yesterday my lurcher had a broken nail on one of his back paws, it was bleeding and he limped a bit not much, went for a walk and he had a run on something that lasted a long time,this morning he dosent want to walk on it at all, would it be because of the nail or do you think it is something more serious,he might be a soft dog but ive had dogs with broken nails that didnt bother before, thanks for any feedback.

  15. my lucher is coming on well ferreting, marking, patience, reading the game, but when a rabbit hits the net and hes on it before me he trys to drag it away from me until i get him to let go(which is not easy) he is actually quite well trained, but this and his retrieve are bad.Has any one had this problem around nets and fixed it? i can live with the bad retrieve but not trying to run of with them in a net, he retrieves tennis balls and dummys, jumps, heels without a leed when lampingand, good recall , any ideas on the net grabing
  16. if you took a daytime dog of the fens and lamped it on the fields behind me for hares unless it was as quick as a whippet grey it wouldnt kill many, so in this case there not easyer, and certainly far from easy
  17. lurcher to lurcher works well, if both dogs do well then pups have every chance, i bred a litter of lurchers which were 1 eaighth bull, 1 eaighth bedlington , one eaighth collie one eaighth whippet,half greyhound,some looked like bull cross some bedlington some collie and some greyhound, 12 pups and of the 6 i kept in touch all worked well.
  18. just been told of a terrier that got bolted out of an earth by a fox that was chasing it, didnt enter an earth after so was used for bushing, one day dropped in a bad spot and got dug out after 8 hours stuck to fox and worked them hard after untill retired , makes me think that a lurcher spewing could turn it round to
  19. hich was witnessed by a few people (out with hounds) ,so some dogs can make the grade when seemingly they have jacked[ when you say he wouldnt take a fox, did he try doubled up or just no interest at all untill the penny dropped , thanks for the reply by the way, maybe my mates dog did step up a gear and do it in the end, after seing it spew i found it hard to beleive
  20. has anyone used or are useing this cross? i was wondering if the saluki traits would still come through, feet and a bit more wind , i had a 7 eaighth grey 1 eaighth bull and the bull certainly showed bull, any comments on this cross please
  21. having a debate with a mate about a dog he owned that took fox with other dogs but when tryed on own spewed it untill other dog joined in, the thing is he said that it did take them on its own another time, the dog was about 2 when i saw it spew it and he thinks it was the second fox it saw and the first single handed attempt, he cant remember how many foxs untill it did single handed as it was in the eaighties, anyway does any one recall a dog spewing on fox but then making the grade later on because i cant think of any and i saw my fair share back in the day, thanks for any feedback
