Happy People: A Year In The Taiga

What about the candidates that aren't Clinton, and Trump?

I wouldn't change where I live, for the world. It's got it's own little challenges though. This year we've had a major wildfire only a couple of miles from where I live. Combined with nearly record deer herds, and the subsequent rise in predator numbers. It means we've been getting a lot of mountain lion sightings as the fires have pushed all the animals down the mountain and into the valley (where we are.) This is the third time we've seen one and now all walking around will be done while we're carrying! It's been the shift from "We The People..." to "Show Me The Money" anyone who

Sorry mate, I've been driving around the gravel roads around here this morning. My youngest was out walking the dog, at first light, and he was being stalked by a mountain lion. No harm done but orders are not walk around without me, and I've informed the rangers. Let me clarify. That quote isn't Donald's that I know of, but it sums up the current Republican movement, factually. The fact that you're the only one that checked it speaks volumes when it comes to Mr Trump's legendary status among the THL faithful! I can see his appeal with some, his pro-patriotism, anti-immigration r

That's fair enough but he's promised a lot of action but hasn't actually said how he's going to do it. Bit like Brexit. How's he going to do it. Yep, but a factual quote!

Which one of Donald's policies appeal the most, to those on here? What do you think of his solutions?
-
I was referring to the resistance not their fleeing standing army. I know a lot of D-Day veterans praise them very highly, and said that they couldn't have done it without them. I'll stick with that assessment.

I'm more offended that the Mirror passes this off as news...
-
But could we have done it without them? I don't think we could have. If Hitler had focused on western Europe, instead of Operation Barbarossa, how different could the result have been?
-
Could we have done it without them? I'm no Francophile but there were some brave men, and women, in their resistance movement...

France Elections: National Front Leads In Regional Polls

Agreed it isn't the issue but the complexity of the human genetics means we cannot breed humans like other animals, based on undesirable/desirable traits. 20th/21st century science has debunked 19th century eugenics hypothesis. There's some amazing books on the subject if you'd be willing to expand your library. That's the one! I knew I'd heard it somewhere but I couldn't place it until you mentioned Baz... We know the dangers of religious ideology. We know that without a proactive populous there could be another dark age but when you walk in on a group of right wingers who will -
Blackstreak... Any data regarding lawful use of firearms compared to criminal? France has amazing gun control laws but it didn't stop the recent terror perpetrators using them... Switzerland on the other hand...

I think France's previous experience with fascist occupation, has spoken volumes in this election result. I guess they have longer memories than most thought.

It has to be legal here, fish & game, are ruthless with poachers not to mention a poaching conviction would ruin my career! I was very surprised with the veggie aspect of it. It was an experiment but I was shocked by just how quickly I was able to adapt to. Definitely a quality, over quantity, feeling! Time scale is a tough one. I have to gather permits and research seasons but I'd like to get as many as I can, and hunt all of them. Fishing will be the easiest because it's 365 days a year, on our lakes, and they're stuffed with bass and trout. I'd like to say a full calendar ye

High reward game is also in abundance but it's limited to season, and harvest quantity. It's a huge bonus but to rely only on it would risk going without entirely. When the season comes around the hills are full of high powered beer, and rifles. The archery season would give me another month, to six weeks, before they get out there. Using everything is why I'm trying to get in with the butcher. Maximizing the yield. An elk would keep me in meat most of the year. Rabbit, and trout, is a meal. I know the one I want to harvest but if I focused entirely on that I could miss what's hopping

Eugenics in humans has never worked. Eugenics has successfully supported evolution but only in the sense that human populations, that have tried it, have had detrimental results in their own populations. They can have it now, but they don't. Why? Because they refuse to adapt! Evolution 101. The strongest, fittest, whitest, prettiest, never win. ONLY the most adaptable. -
Thanks mate! That's what I'm hoping. The resources are there and I've shot quite a bit with .22LR but I've never bow hunted before and I've been gifted an almost perfect opportunity. My trapping skills from working pest control, are adequate, and my fishing skills are above adequate. I would agree on the conventional protein sources but I've been researching this for a bit and I conducted an earlier experiment, in preparation... I went veggie!! ... but before anyone starts it was to see how I would react physically, and mentally, with an all plant diet. The initial plan was for a cou

Hate to break this to you but there is no pure race. There never has been. The only unhealthy attitude, in my opinion, is the lengths you seem to think you would go to achieve it. As you and I have discussed previously eugenics is a deeply flawed concept. -

That's scientifically incorrect. Human diversity is more now than it's ever been. Nostalgia is looking back to the good old days, which were essentially the same only your memory has dusted off the ugly parts and recycled them for more than they're worth. -
I'll do my best with my limited skill set! It's not in the Mountain Man tradition because that requires too much instability and I can't do that with a family. I want to see if it's possible to secure enough meat via hunting, trapping, and fishing, without buying any from the shops. Essentially I want to see if it's not only possible but plausible for the average bloke, with a full time job, house, and a family, to secure all the protein requirements from wild game. No game caught it's fruit and veggies only. I doubled down with the archery aspect because I'd like to learn a new skill
