  1. Look for a collie that can turn a cow with a calf at foot. Better still look for a collie that can load a cow and calf. When the cow has thrown the collie 10 foot in the air and the collie goes back and tries again then you say to yourself, "that's the dog I want to breed from". What I'm saying is there's a big difference between a collie that works and a proper working collie. Strive for the best. I'm a hunting man and yet a good collie is one of my favourite workers. They saved me a lot of running over the years.
  2. Ok JD, I presumed it was recent as it's the time of the year for breeding. Pity, if you were breeding chaffinches you must have been good at it.
  3. Well done JD. Not a beginners bird and even for the expert a hard species to get breeding. Keep us informed.
  4. A friend had a 25lber on it last year trolling for trout. Same fellow this year had a 5 lb pike on a trout fly. I eventually found out it was on a cats whiskers, and him claiming to be a dry only man, LOL.
  5. It's on again tonight Horse and Country , 9 pm.
  6. I've never tried to breed them or cross them but I do have a pair in my aviary that are 4 or maybe 5 years old.
  7. Yes Mossy, or even a quiet days hunting would make him question his sexuality then, LOL.
  8. I bet if you look closely around the hole in the wire you'll see a few red hairs with a pale tip to them.
  9. Believe me, ferrets wont get rid of mice. Traps and poisen will however.
  10. Ratraper you say girls and gay men make up the majority of riders. There's a horse sport you mightn't know about called National Hunt Racing. You should look at it and watch one of those so called girly types fall off, get stepped on and kicked, then pick themselves up and walk back to the weight room. See how girly that is. LOL, I bet your a soccer fan.
  11. What was the bait FatMan ? Taz's, Mepps, TNT, LOL. YIS.
  12. Why are terriers stolen ??? Let me put it this way, who ever stole those terriers has just made a handy £600 to £1000 for themselves because there is an endless amount of fools out there to buy them, no questions asked. That's why. Hope this man gets his terriers back.
  13. Are they your own work there Gin ? I'd love to see a close up of the stick with the snake on it, an adder I think ?
  14. It's an excellent programme and my only problem with it is that it was made about 10 years too late. I've seen it on "Horse and Country TV" and even caught my daughter getting up in the middle of the night to sneak downstairs to watch it.
  15. I have to agree that those answers are wrong. A long blow on the horn means gone to ground. 3 long blows is sending for the terrierman. 2 short and 1 long blow is the kill. The only one I wasn't 100% about was the last one as our huntsman tends not to blow for home as he always says huntings not finished 'till hounds are loaded.
  16. The find, the kill and going home.
  17. That fly is not to unlike a klinkhammer, lets face it one of the best flys around. No wonder it's your favourite. My favourite fly is the one they're taking at the time.
  18. I was looking forward to this but all that waiting for files to open seems to much like hard work. Is there an easier way?
  19. I was asked a few years back to send a pup to Holland for controlling muskrat that tunnel into the seawalls causing flooding. He told me there was a bounty on them. So using terriers in that way must be legal.
  20. Always saves a cartridge to see them like that.
  21. Neil-Cmon man...a failed fox dog made a badger dog? There is no way, and it dont matter if they failed on fox here or there, I dont believe they would make a badger dog either place. I think as Stuntman said, the odds that folks here were really digging badger enough to call it a "badger dog" is very unlikely. Almost all the US folks that talk of badger have never actually layed eyes on one, and fewer still have ever had a dog on one, let alone a proper dig to one, IMO. I probably caught more badger than 99% of US terriermen, and I wouldnt call myself a terrierman, or say I ever owned a badger
  22. Could someone put up a link to the front page of todays Irish Sun newspaper please.
  23. Stuntman, regarding the American badger. They are a VERY aggresive animal. Have you ever seen the footage of one pulling the camera out of the camera mans hands. It just shot out of it's burrow and flew straight at the camera. It's often been said too that they go for the genitalia when attacked. Ouch. But, FACT, several terriers that didn't make the grade over on these shores as fox dogs have been sent to the states and have gone on to make their name as badger dogs in the states. However I'm long enough talking to American terriermen to know that because the American badger is mostly confi
  24. This craic of having the intended quarry entering the trap to gain his confidence and then when he feels safe set the trap to catch him makes absolutly no sence to me whatsoever. I can understand it for the likes of a multi-catch trap such as for rats but with a fox ?????
  25. Oh and someone mentioned about otters being dangerous to handle. As can be seen Toms prints is called Tailing The Otter. That's how it was done, by the tail. And I know what it's like, I've done it.
